Here for a 3D2N stay and I’m feeling very at home! Some of my thoughts about ibis Styles Glasgow Central —
There are many things to love about this place! Attention’s been paid to many little details that will make your overall stay a comfortable one: 🟩 The room is nicely decorated and comfortable. I had a good rest on the wide king bed. The lounge chair in the corner of the room has a separate foot stool piece, making the chair great for both work and relaxing. I also enjoy the colour scheme of the decor which is bright and classic. 🟩 I really love the shower they have here, for some reason the shower head creates the feel of a rain shower even though it’s not. The bath towels they provide are oddly large and luxurious. 🟩The breakfast spread (runs from 0630-1000) is a nice way to start the day and pretty satisfying. Runs for a longer period than most other places and so it’s easier to find a pocket of time for quietness. I particularly love the two instant coffee machines they have running in the lobby which can be used throughout the day. The lounge area in the lobby serves pub food till 9 they also offer cafe beverages and alcoholic drinks on tap. They don’t do takeaway but I did get an OK to bring some shrimp scampi up to the room. There’s a pool table and a juke box here in line with their retro themed decor. 🟩 Close to train stations and certain attractions. I’m here to attend a show at the Pavilion theatre and it’s not too far of a walk away. It’s about a 10 minute stroll from Glasgow Central train station.
🟨 You should not be expecting a Hilton- or Marriott-esque experience, of course. There are some conventional hotel features you won’t find here: telephones or stationery, toiletry kits, lockers or safes, bar fridges. You might also notice that parts of the room aren’t well maintained. The walls of my room were for example very scuffed by bags and shoes I imagine. The “Do Not Disturb” door hang is made of cardboard and was almost torn. The space between the foot of the bed and the wall is SO narrow. The food I’ve bought for the in-house kitchen hasn’t been that great. Nothing wild to complain about but just things to note.
All in all still a charming place to stay at and definitely unconventional. I really enjoyed the vibe and would come back in...
Read moreThis is a 6 story hotel located in downtown Glasgow just down the street from the Hilton. Within the building is a small restaurant and coffee bar.
It offers small, clean, bright, simply furnished, and air-conditioned rooms for the budget conscious traveler. My room came with TV, a double bed, nice linens, fluffy pillows, and a duvet, plus a small side table and a lounge chair. Free breakfast is offered with the reservation.
The bathroom is small and roomy without a fan, and lighting is bright in the shower but less efficient at the sink. The shower has a powerful showerhead and comes with liquid face/body wash and conditioning shampoo. No other extras are included, so bring your own hand mirror (if you need close-up work), hand soap, body cream, and toiletries.
The complimentary breakfast offers a variety of self-serve food both hot (bacon, scrambled eggs, black pudding, sausage, stewed tomatoes, baked beans, mushrooms, potato crepe) and cold (yogurt, mixed berry compote, cereals, fresh whole fruit, oat milk, milk). Additionally, bread, jams, honey, croissants, chocolate croissants, tea, instant coffee, and a coffee machine ( variety of espressos and hot chocolat) are also available. The breakfast was tasty and plentiful to start my day on the right foot.
The staff are all very friendly, courteous and helpful. Very prompt to answer concerns and fill room requests.
I was traveling for vacation and not business, so the size was perfectly suitable and efficient. If you're on business and need to sit at a computer, then the set-up is less than ideal.
Hope this helps you make an informed decision. I give this hotel 5 stars on my scale of needs. I am an easygoing, flexible, non-demanding traveler with simple requirements. This hotel worked...
Read moreBooking was easy. The hotel is conveniently located for rail travellers from the south – a short walk from Glasgow Central Station. Checking in was friendly, informal and quick. The two lifts were efficient.|My room (607 on the 6th floor – photos) was spacious and quiet, with a comfortable bed, a wide window, a big TV screen, facilities for making tea and coffee, good lighting, plenty of power points and a well-equipped bathroom (photos). Lacking in my opinion were a) adequate storage space for the guests’ possessions; and b) a surface suitable for placing and using a laptop computer. The chair and bedside table were not suitable for that. The control for the air-conditioning (photo) took time to master; the lack of instructions contrasted with the containers for shampoo and soap, which were amusingly labelled (photo). The shower door was not properly fitted and was consequently difficult to open. In one of the photos, the bathroom door is held open by the footstool; this was because the door had a very efficient self-closing mechanism, which prevented the guest from listening to radio/television while in the bathroom. The cleaning staff were discreet and efficient.|The decoration (names of pop groups of yesteryear) in my bathroom (photo) was a harbinger of the breakfast experience. The buffet was extremely varied, with a changing range of local items, such as haggis, black pudding and potato scones (no champit neeps [mashed turnips] during my three-night stay). Many customers had to make several visits to the buffet, because no trays were provided. For me, the unending stream of music of the pop groups of yesteryear became very irritating. |It might help to know that the writer of this is an 82-year-old Englishman who studied at...
