I will not give it a 5 for a few reasons. However I’ll start with the good part. The restaurant is beautiful, nice interior design ambiance and intimate, some attention to details should be considered and especially around the wiring and lightning, quite painful to the eye the chaotic wires. The table setups , colour scheme and fabrics are on the nice side. The food it’s good but does need work done when comes to plating or creativity. My Tuna, Caviar and Truffle was tasty but yet bland, I was expecting a bit more show in the plate considering the price and was missing the “little extra green”. For a fancied up tuna tartare I was hoping for some nice bread maybe or something more inspired on the side and not some truffle oil crisps out of a Sainsbury’s crisps bag thrown on the side of a plate way to large for a first course. Chaotic looking plate. The main and I mean the cote du boeuf was nice, tasty but unfortunately it came almost cold, considering it’s a large piece of meat I was expecting the plate to being hot to keep the beautiful cut nice. I topped it with escargot and herb garlic and they went simply well, unfortunately became quickly cold and chewy. The sauces and sides were on point and no comment there. My partner’s Rib Eye was fatty on one side of the bone, however to fatty and chewy to be eaten, this should be the chef’s expertise to cook it right. I might say did not look as good as mine. After the slight complaint the waiter told us that the cut is of such and no action was taken, which I found slightly upsetting, considering more than half of a £45,- was left on the plate. Even thou it was a birthday dinner, as the two different waiters asked for the occasion, no attention to that either. I don’t want special treatment however when I complain about my steak not being as expected, I wish the waiter wasn’t so cocky about it as it was when I he told me about the variation of Negroni as I never had one in my life. Last critique would be about the bathrooms who are in urgent need of a retouch and good ol’ scrub. For a fancy restaurant the bathrooms were kind off putting. Might give it another try, maybe was the wrong day as it was a Wednesday, even thou there are much better restaurants in the class for a...
Read moreBooked a table for 3 early evening on Wednesday 06 December and made sure we had added on the online booking that my wife was gluten intolerant.
We arrived 18.45 and there was no one to greet us although the restaurant was quiet. We stood inside in our winter coats for nearly 5 minutes while the barman (who did not acknowledge us) was preparing cocktails.
Finally seated, no one offered to take our coats, so we had to pile them on the bench seats beside us.
My wife ordered the filet and asked if the triple cooked chips were gluten free (GF). The server didn’t know, went off to the kitchen and came back and said no. Ok, how about the skinny fries, were they GF? Another trip to the kitchen and the answer was again no. So, it was to be a filet steak with no chips. Well, how about the truffle dauphinoise potatoes were they GF? … the waiter disappeared, this time for longer.
When our finally drinks arrived, my wife asked again whether the truffle dauphinoise potatoes were GF and was told “you can only have the mashed potatoes!” So, in a restaurant that specialises in the best steaks, no chips because mash was the only GF option.
I ordered the ribeye and my son ordered the filet. In my view the presentation on the plate lacked finesse – a steak, some chips, and a jug of sauce. I was expecting there to be at least some garnish, maybe a grilled tomato with herbs, but no, the bare minimum.
To be fair, the steaks were correctly cooked and were tasty, but not exceptional.
The dessert menus arrived, and my wife asked which were GF. Another trip to the kitchen only to be told “I’m sorry, there is nothing you can have!”. At that point we had had enough of GoST and asked for the bill.
The waiter came back to say that the chef could do the crème brulée without the biscuit. Too late, we had already reached for our coats, which were still piled on the bench seats beside us. We were just glad it was a dry evening and headed home.
There are many great restaurants in Glasgow but sadly, GoST...
Read moreHeaded to Gost in Glasgow last night recently opened in Bothwell street, a fantastic restaurant and a wonderful experience.
We were met by Scott as we arrived, offered either to have a drink first or head straight to our table, we opted for a drink to start our evening my wife ha a salted caramel espresso martini from the very extensive and creative cocktail list, it certainly didn’t disappoint, it was excellent, I started with a draught pint of Heineken silver, which was very refreshing and enjoyable.
The ambiance of the place is brilliant, all the staff were very professional, polite and friendly . The menu was mainly seafood and steaks but there is something for everyone available.
I had Cumbrae oysters to start , while my wife opted for baked beetroot both were excellent and beautifully presented. Main course was a Fillet steak for both of us, served with skinny fries. I chose the prawn steak topper and my wife had brandy and pepper corn sauce. The chef cooked them perfectly and exactly how we had asked them to be done. This was washed down with a reasonably priced bottle of Argentinian Malbec recommended by our waitress, it was a very nice wine for the price. Finished the meal off with a sweet and a couple of coffees.
I have been to dearer and cheaper restaurants but I think the owners of Gost have got it about right, nice surroundings, great staff, a lovely menu and fantastic food.
If you are in Glasgow it’s definitely worth a visit.
We would certainly go back again, thanks for a...
