Where to begin…Iv been going to the ho wong for half my life and I was gutted when it closed its doors. So when I found out it was reopening I was over the moon. I booked in December on the first day they opened bookings, I live in Belfast so I booked for January and planned a trip around it. I requested a booth which I do understand requests aren’t always guaranteed. We arrived and were seated in the corner which is closed off to the rest of the restaurant pretty much. I said to the owner that I had requested a booth and there was 2 empty so could we please have one. He apologised and started lifting cutlery to let us sit there. Then this female in a black suit (I’m assuming she was a head waitress/maitre d) stopped him and was speaking in Chinese so I’m not sure what was said. She then came over and told me ii would not be getting the booth as it sat 5 people. I said ok no problem can you move us to another seat as this one is not suitable at all. She was visibly annoyed, I went on to explain that I had flown from Belfast etc and this was a special Occasion. She rolled her eyes at me and told me to sit at Table at the back of the restaurant which means we had to sit side by side which is not ideal but at this point I was like ok whatever. So we had our lunch which was very nice, Then a couple came in and were seated at the booth by her. I was pretty annoyed as she had told us we could not sit there because it sat 5. So we finished our meal and I requested the bill from a waiter who was very nice. So I got the bill and placed the money in it. She then came to get the bill then opened it And frantically went through the money while looking very angry it was so rude I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing! She then came back to the table and I told her just to keep the change She didn’t even acknowledge me or look in my direction and then proceeded to slam the bill down on the table! I was absolutely stunned, I have never been so offended in a restaurant in my life! Whoever this person is she should not be working in the ho wong she could ruin the great reputation they have in Glasgow. I hope I can go Back someday and not be treated Like that. So...
Read moreFrom the moment you arrive at Ho Wong, perfectly situated on the ground floor, you're enveloped in an atmosphere that signals this is no ordinary Chinese restaurant. The interior immediately impresses with its beautifully fresh design – think modern elegance with a comfortable, inviting warmth. It’s clear a lot of thought went into making the space feel both sophisticated and welcoming. Crucially, the thoughtful layout ensures full wheelchair accessibility, making it a truly inclusive and delightful destination for all.
But let's be honest, we're here for the food, and Ho Wong truly shines. We sat down to the lunch set menu on a Saturday where 2 courses cost £19.50. Every dish we tasted was authentic Chinese flavours and the freshest ingredients. The spare ribs with chilli and salt were a standout for me, perfectly cooked and meat that practically melted off the bone. The menu itself offers something to tempt every palate.
Beyond the exceptional cuisine, the team at Ho Wong elevate the experience. Their outstanding attentiveness begins the moment you're warmly greeted at the door and gracefully guided to your table. They anticipate needs without ever feeling intrusive, ensuring a seamless and thoroughly enjoyable visit. This blend of professionalism and genuine warmth helps to distinguish them from others.
Ho Wong isn't just about eating. It's about the entire experience. With its brilliant accessibility, stunning ambience, truly magnificent food and a staff that genuinely cares, it's a place I wouldn't hesitate to wholeheartedly recommend for anyone craving a top tier Chinese meal. I'm already looking forward to...
Read moreWe were excited to visit the Ho Wong for a family celebration. Unfortunately we were stuck in traffic, we called to say our party were to start, we would arrive for the main course (set menu). On entering we were impressed with the decor but were met with a line of very hostile staff who refused to let us in. We explained we were with a group, they said there was no group there. We actually thought we had the wrong restaurant! This set the tone for how we were treated, the staff were extremely rude. A female member of staff then proceeded to tell one of our family she needed to control her son who was being exceptionality well behaved. As front of house staff she needs to be sensitive & aware of peoples feelings. If the restaurant is for adults only then they need to promote it as such. The Google ‘About’ section under Amenities has “Good for kids” and “Family friendly” selected. This goes way against our experience. The staff were on edge & rude, they removed unfinished plates, mad when we asked for drinks, did not catering to dietary requirements, were angry when we ordered extra dishes, and when paying the card was snatched from my sisters hand aggressively, we were so shocked. Staff need trained in customer service and specific training on people with additional support needs. It is in no way like the old Ho Wong, customer service, staff attitude & kindness goes a long way. On reflection we should have left but we were in disbelief at how we were being treated. If you want to have a pleasant dining experience I would recommend you...
