The real issue here is that Indigo hotels are misbranded as boutique hotels, and essentially they are budget hotels with better decor. Fine - just be clear on that. Don’t try to misrepresent what you are delivering by putting bad eggs Benedict on the breakfast menu.

The Glasgow version of Indigo is without doubt the worst IHG hotel we’ve stayed in. Location? Yes it is a central hotel, but not the nicer bit of central Glasgow. It’s the wrong side of the Central station in a bit of a scruffy area. That isn’t good in a town like Glasgow. Substance misuse, homelessness and unsavoury pubs nearby.

The hotel staff are ‘OK’ but are not trained up to deliver boutique hotel standards. Their general demeanour, presentation, attitudes and lack of cultural/customer service awareness are apparent in everything they do.

We were staying here for our daughter’s graduation. We use the IHG chain a lot but this brand does not hit the boutique standard we bought into from the description online.

BASIC TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT didn’t work … for example the smart TV. The staff could not get it fixed or deal with this at all. When I reported it as a problem, the person on reception ‘raised a ticket’ with a 3rd party supplier, with no resolution over 3 days. Seriously …

Consequently, we tended to not use the lift because if it broke down we might die in there before they organised technical help.

Breakfast, not terrible but they just don’t know how to do it right. For example the smoked salmon shoved on a plate, badly presented. It wasn’t served with the right things, such as bagels, lemon, capers, cream cheese, none of them etc.

The bacon was virtually uncooked and everything served with cheap, bulk container condiments.

The avocado for the toast? some pre-made watery slop.

It’s a 6/10. The vinyl seating in the restaurant was sticky and seemed to have some jam residue on it. Not ideal for a pre graduation breakfast.

The soulless hotel bar, which was full of cheap, worn looking, empty uncomfortable chairs, claims to be 24 hours. If you want a horrible 24 hour bar.

The bar was in the middle of the only reception seating area for guests and often don’t have customers… but when we opened a special bottle of champagne for my daughter’s graduation we’re were rudely asked to leave the hotel seating area and told to drink it in our room. Never experienced that in ANY hotel I’ve been a guest in.

If you want a boutique hotel experience for a special occasion book somewhere else.

If you want an affordable, average city centre hotel, for a cheap city break, that’s nothing special...

after not visiting since before Covid I was really looking forward to my stay on Friday but was bitterly disappointed with parts of my stay.

Reception was welcoming and could not have been more helpful. The room was clean and tidy and up to usual standard.

The dining experience was a great let down compared to all my earlier visits even before Pierre Marco White franchise.

Menu choices limited only three selections in each of the starters ,mains and desserts. the choices were not very exciting.

Breakfast was the worst experience of all. my friend and I were seated at a table for 2 with only one coffee cup. The senior server did not notice when coffee pots were delivered to the table she still did not notice only one cup. i went for buffet breakfast and asked another member of staff when i was returning to table who then delivered it. would have expected th9is to have been pick up before being seated or certainly on being seated. my friend had to ask for another coffee pot as coffee granules were not be strained. The senior server continued to clear tables before going to kitchen for a replacement. For a ** hotel I would have expected breakfast to be cooked to order. Buffet choices were limited and not very enticing .This was like a breakfast from a low budget hotel had better choices in a B& B. There were limited continental options and croissants were vey brown and tasteless.

The breakfast was eatable but cheap produce and not present well not what expected from ** hotel. My last point is that while we were still eating tables next to us were being cleaned with a trolley and slops put in a container. I would have expected this to have been done in kitchen not in fronts of guests.

I have a room booked for the end of the month and considering cancelling it but definitely would not be eating in the restaurant.

I have reviewed pictures for food at other Indigo hotels including Edinburgh and the quality and look of it is or a a superior standard.

I am sure previous guest would find this standard of food and service unacceptable compared to previous visits

Gold...

Starting with the positives, the breakfast choices were good, quiet accommodation on the 4th floor, the bed was comfortable, the lounge was adequate and the reception staff very friendly and efficient. Now to the minus points. The wardrobe provision was a joke. A double robe, but with just half for clothes, and this shared with an ironing board, Tee other half housed a safe and a fridge and space for 2 small cases once the case unloading "thing" was put out in the room. This was the space allowed for two Adults for 7 nights!!The drawer space was minimal, just three and one held the hairdryer.

The housekeeping was poor, upon arrival the Fridge held two bottles of water and two biscuits, excellent after a long journey, but it was not switched on and could not de done from the room, 1st visit to reception. Coming back another evening after a tiring day and the room was cool. Turn on the heating to remove the chill, nothing, 2nd visit to reception, where it was confirmed it was turned off totally at the "master" panel at reception, and it would be activated for our room.. Another day the room had been serviced but the bed not made. Do it yourself, better than another trip downstairs. Another day, no coffee left in the room, 3rd visit to reception where some were obtained from a very apologetic receptionist. The room was only vacuumed on one occasion as a piece of paper was on the floor upon arrival and still there 3 days later. These may seem small points to some, however for a four star hotel it fell far short of my/our expectations. I have stayed in many IHG Hotels over the years and I am sorry to say this one fails on numerous points some of which are listed above. Perhaps the wardrobe situation should be addressed in the future as not everyone stays just one or two nights therefore adequate hanging space is a necessity. Likewise the turning off at source of the power to the fridge and heating etc. Just for the record, we are both in the 80 year old bracket and expect more...

We arrived at the Indigo and we greeted by the lovely Katt who was informative and cheerful. Throughout our stay the staff were very willing to engage in conversation - the lady that cleaned the room was nice. The room itself was very spacious (King room) Although we were near the corridors access door, the noise was minimal. We enjoyed the rainfall shower. The only constructive comment about the room would be that we had a rather dirty extraction fan in the shower (photograph attached) which stuck out like a sore thumb in an otherwise spotless hotel room. We had breakfast included in our stay and this was a variable experience... On day one we missed breakfast completely as this took well over half an hour to arrive and we gave up waiting... despite it being busy, the waiting time for our food was absurd. *We should highlight that we spoke to a young waitress who was very apologetic and polite about our complaint*. On day two and three the service was much improved. The options for continental breakfast were of a good standard, and supportive of different dietary needs. The bar drinks were good, very strong and made for an enjoyable nightcap. More of a preference to highlight is that it would have been good to have a thicker pillow option available as we found the pillows uncomfortable to sleep on. We would love to see this as an option for our next visit. Overall, other than a few critiques, the stay was enjoyable and the location of the hotel was fabulous for navigating our city break.

Dropped a star because there's no mention on the website that the hotel is inside the Glasgow Low Emissions Zone (LEZ). This meant we incurred a £60 fine parking next door in the Q-Park. Would have been nice to know in advance. Less than a five minute walk to the station, and about ten to the main square - really handy. If you park in the Q-Park on Waterloo Street you save money, and it cost us £35 for two days instead of just over £50. Rooms are lovely, with huge beds, a mini fridge, and hot showers. The decor is quirky too. There were multiple times that we passed reception when there was no staff present, which feels weird to me. Not a good look seeing people wait around. However, the staff themselves are lovely and helpful. We didn't eat in the restaurant for breakfast or dinner, but I will say that the menu looked really uninspiring when you have the whole of Glasgow on the doorstep for great food. Finally, I didn't spot a wheelchair-accessible entrance. There are steps up to the main revolving door (which wouldn't fit a wheelchair in anyway) but assuming that there is one somewhere. We will definitely be back, this place is great.
