Apologies to Mademoiselle's Cafe as the one star I left previously was because my phone died whilst doing the review. Unfortunately you appear to have me mixed up with another customer as I had a lovely experience with my partner. I do not have a daughter and it wasn't my birthday. So I would just say that you need to be more careful in the future when responding to reviews. We had been in for lunch on the Thursday as it was our first day and visit to Whitby and I had seen on Trip Advisor how lovely the place looked. We travel a lot abroad and are always looking out for little gems and this is one. The decor is beautiful. So much attention to detail and I loved the chandaliers, the ornate mirrors and beautiful cut glass wine glasses. I sent photos immediately to my French friends to make them jealous. As the food was so lovely (I recommend the chicken salad) and the staff were so friendly we asked if we could get a table for the evening and were lucky enough to get a cancellation for the Friday evening albeit a tad early at 6.30pm. It is popular so book ahead. The early evening did not disappoint. This place also distills its own gin we were told another feather in its cap.The starters were delicous particularly the black pudding with caramelized apples and onions and the main meal of duck was very tasty. The staff were very attentive and it was a lovely evening and I would recommend coming here for a deliciously, decadent French evening. Unfortunately I have not received an apology for the mistaken...
Read moreMy mum had talked about this place so much that for her 70th I booked a table and did the four hour drive as a surprise for her. Unfortunately the Sunday roast she said tasted like it had been there all day, (we ate at 3.30) potatoes not crispy but she loved the cauliflower cheese. My partner and I are vegan and were given a bowl of haricot beans and courgettes in a tomato sauce and charged £12 each the exact same as the roast with a giant yorkshire, two side vegetables, cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes! Ours was heavily underseasoned, bland and undercooked haricot beans (they tasted like cheap baked beans with the tomato sauce washed off) and courgette which is one of the most tasteless veg to begin with, was hard. To say we were underwhelmed was an understatement. But to pay £24 for those two dishes alone was outrageous. No other vegetables came with it. There was supposed to be garlic in the dish but we couldn't taste it. I'm not the best at complaining in person so to be fair they didn't get the opportunity to rectify it which is not their fault. My mum wanted to say something but it was her birthday so I just said leave it, paid and left. In the few non vegan places I have eaten at you can always tell that the chef feels a bowl of underseasoned basic veg equals a meal (and an easy rip off). The waitresses were nice enough, but we were not asked if we were happy with the meal. Lovely surroundings, but obviously in this instance very much style...
Read moreMademoiselles is a very popular French restaurant in Whitby. The surroundings are quirky with different types of light fittings. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There are a lot of choices to be made in relation to starters, main courses and desserts. My husband and I had mussels in a cream wine sauce with a slice of wholemeal bread. For my main course I had chicken, with success potatoes, mange tout, carrots and red braised cabbage. My husband had a casserole which consisted of duck, pork, sausage and white beans. Both dishes were delicious and very filling. I was disappointed that I didn't have room to have one of their desserts which looked scrumptious. We finished the meal with a cappuccino. The restaurant sells a variety of alcoholic beverages such as a number of different gins, wine and beer. There is a gin bar at the back of the restaurant that you can retire to after your meal. There is also a sitting area at the front of the restaurant. The toilets were located down some steep steps. I will return to this restaurant but we will need to book early at least three weeks in advance. Prices were relative...
