What a hidden gem this is. I stay in Bridgend and the surrounding area about once a month for work and have stayed all over. This time some colleagues had planned a meal out in Bridgend centre, so I decided to stay nearby and came across Mairs bed and breakfast purely by chance. What a gem. This is a well run, very clean, well kept bed and breakfast. I stayed in room 5, at the top of the property, which was absolutely lovely. The bathroom was spotless as was the entire place. Everything worked, nothing was broken or even a bit loose. Other places should come here and they could learn a thing or two. The host is Huw who is such a nice guy. He keeps this place in tip top condition, take huge pride in giving good service, has superb customer service skills himself and cooks a lovely breakfast, using local eggs, sausages and bacon. They have decent WiFi and try to be as eco friendly and sustainable as possible. I will certainly stay again and would recommend this to anyone planning to...
Read moreJust returned home from a very enjoyable two night stay. Excellent location with a decent size car park, which is a huge bonus. The room was lovely, recently refurbished and very clean with comfortable beds. Communal areas (basically hallway and kitchen) kept nice and clean. Breakfast was great, with toast, orange juice, yoghurts, cereals, and a freshly cooked breakfast. Everyone very friendly and helpful in this family run business. Thank you for a lovely stay.||The only thing I wasn’t too keen on was that after a 5 hour drive we arrived to find no-one on site, and had to call and wait 5 minutes or so. If we’d known we would have called ahead when we were near and had a good idea of an arrival time, but then to be fair we did book through booking.com so maybe that is explained if you book direct.||Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and Mairs would be our first port of call if we are in the...
Read moreOne of the worse stays I have ever had at a hotel. Booked a room with a double bed, but they put us in a room with two single beds. When I explained that this is not what we booked, and I have got confirmation that I have booked a room with a double bed, he wasn’t having any of it and become irate and very rude on the phone. Claimed the room with the double bed is booked up all weekend, but we were the only ones staying at the property. If he apologised for the mix up and offered me a refund for the difference then nothing more would have been said here. The room was extremely cold all night, my partner had to resort to sleeping with her jacket on all night. Loud noises all night from the pipes at the property, very old run down hotel. Will not be staying there again, and I would advise for others to seek other accommodation...
