Tollbooth tower at Glasgow cross is a quirky clock tower in probably one of the oldest parts of the city and has its roots in a levy paid to Glasgow by merchants to come and sell their ware within the city. I don't think the present tower is particularly old since there's been tollbooths there from about the 14-15th century, anyway worth a visit

The only remaining part of the Glasgow Tolbooth (the main block was demolished back in 1921.) The steeple was 126 feet (38 m) high. Completed in 1634. The building was used as a prison and courthouse in the 17th and 18th centuries: a total of 22 executions took place at the tolbooth over that period.

The seven-storey Tolbooth Steeple is Glasgow Cross`s most important feature and it is topped by a clock and a stone crown. It was built in 1626 at what was the meeting point of the main streets of Glasgow at that time. The Square has 3 beautiful Tower clocks.
