The best feature of this hotel is the location; right next to Hyde Park and Lancaster Gate metro station, though be aware the metro station can close unexpectedly early due to “staff shortages”, leaving you with a longish walk at the end of an evening. Unfortunately the positives end there; the reality is everything about the hotel is in dire need of proper renovation, cleaning and maintenance. From the entrance to fourth floor it fails to meet the four star rating to which this venue aspires. The signs sellotaped to the entrance door were misplaced, encouraging Pull instead of Push on the outside, Push instead of Pull inside - an amusing mistake. The reception area and sitting space are functional, if somewhat plain and a bit grimy. The check-in process doesn't take long. The lift is tiny; barely big enough for a suitcase plus accompanying adult. Hall carpets were occasionally threadbare and showed serious water damage in some areas. We noticed the fire doors - on all floors - are consistently propped open using the fire extinguishers, a questionable practice if not a major failure in fire safety. The room itself ( 222 ) failed to match the glamorous photos shown on the website: very small room, narrow double bed, limp pillows, broken bedside cupboard doors, a large chunk ripped out of the bath panel, broken toilet handle, loose toilet seat, damaged ventilator patched with duct tape and black mold growing around the bath taps. The bath mat yellow with age and use. Spare pillows had not been prepared with pillow cases and featured years of dirt and stains. Website photos advertising a generous, clean pillow allocation did not match the reality. Requesting clean pillows and pillow cases, plus an additional towel for a double room with two people, was not handled well; the female house maid, certainly old enough to know better, was surely and rude. Not four star treatment. We complained and were given a ‘better’ room ( 443 ) which boasted a four poster bed, though the distinct lean to one side raised smiles and doubts as to its durability. Spare pillows were provided - covers were not - the years of dirt and usage stains on the pillows remained a constant. The fourth floor and stairs are uneven; they all lean to one side. On the stairs this can be very unsettling. Some steps featured the occasional loose edge strip and unsecured carpet, potential for a nasty surprise and requiring only basic maintenance to address. Breakfast is served in the delightful sounding, though utterly dim and depressing, Rose Room. Again, lavish website photos showing starched white tablecloths and freshly painted walls did not match the grim reality. The food offerings were spartan, and in some cases lacked freshness. A cooked menu was not an option. To be fair, day two did have warm baked rolls, which were very nice. Shame this wasn’t complimented with additional items - the unimpressive cheese, tomato and cucumber - dried out from having sat so long - didn’t look yummy. Jam and butter was on offer, but again hardly four star fair. Adding insult to injury, the potted coffee was simply awful - either coffee making skills are seriously lacking or the machine urgently needs replacing. While functional for a *very brief and only if you have to* stay, this venue fails in every aspect: quality, cleanliness, comfort and star rating. The advertised four star experience is simply not true. Advice: Look elsewhere, the are much nicer venues. NOT recommended!!

Went with work colleagues for afternoon tea with a voucher. Price was okay with discount £12 per person and you have a glass of bubbly , either a pot of tea or some coffee and the tray of sandwiches, sweets and scones to share between two. The scone was really good actually. The staff was very helpful and friendly, Sarah and Tom if I remember correctly. I must say we were a bit challenging, as my colleague wanted to try all the cakes and kept on asking for more, and there was no egg and mayo sandwiches so she asked for those, they included sandwiches with hummus as well and she made a note of that, then she wanted water with ice, more coffee with no extra charge, a lemon sponge cake that was not on our shared tray.. and as I have been a waitress I would just say that we were a very demanding and challenging group of people - I actually felt a bit awkward at times, but the staff kept very friendly and were bringing everything that we asked. The location of the place is very well situated, next to the underground and you then can also step out and go for a walk in Hyde Park from one of my favourite part of the park with the fountains and the architecture for Lancaster Gate entrance. The interior of the hotel is very, I don’t know how to describe, old style, but very old.. it has character but kind of feels too old and not in a good way. The green paintings all over the room make it bright but it’s just outdated. Overall we had a good experience. Just not my favourite place I would say. But I want to say a massive thank you to the staff that were there.

I would choose other hotels over this hotel as the price does not match the hotels condition or even the location, however, if dated hotels are your thing, this probably wouldn’t be too bad for you. That being said, there’s a few things visitors should take into account prior to booking with this hotel. Most of the doors to the rooms have massive gaps between the floor and the door, large enough to fit a hand through very easily which is a major safety concern. We had to use a pillow and etc to plug it up. The hotel is not accessible for any disabled guests due to the steps into the hotel. The lift is minuscule, only large enough to fit a single person, buggies, wheelchairs or anything else would not fit, at all, even folded. The rooms are very outdated/old and our TV did not work. The shampoo and shower gel provided is very very low quality and single use only, I wouldn’t rely on it unless you are desperate. You will not receive any towels, I called reception and asked too - it’s not something they provide. The bed sheet had a unknown stain on it. There was hair on the toilet seat which I found slightly concerning due to COVID-19. They will photocopy your ID upon entry and place a hold on your debit card. No staff were wearing face coverings during our stay during the COVID-19 pandemic. The shower wasn’t the best but it does the job. The bed and floor does creek quite a bit. The view was a view of a car park. However, staff were friendly.

Perdemos a tour dessa manhã.

Terrible terrible hotel and staff. I stayed for one night - I can handle hotels being tired, lifts being small, things being old fashioned - no problem there, that sometimes adds to the charm.

However - there is NO excuse for being put in a shabby, dirty, sloping room which STANK of cigarettes, had a toilet seat that wasn't fitted properly to the loo so slid off when you sat on it, had pubic hairs around it, had a filthy bathroom and sink and had a window facing the main road that didn't shut. And when I say it didn't shut, I don't mean it didn't close properly, I mean it didn't close at all!! The arm was missing from it meaning it was crashing open all night and the hotel is on a main road.

The alarm clock was set at the wrong time, the room and bathroom were dirty, tired, tiny and sloping, smelly, old fashioned, appliances didn't work, no kettle or coffee making facilities.....

I complained to the desk in the morning (I had been at a work and was not moving rooms at 2am) and was greeted by a young chap rolling his eyes at me. I was then told by I guess the 'senior' member of staff that I 'should have requested a no smoking room' when booking and that the hotel was good value for money at £80 a night and therefore I had no complaint. She was rude and couldn't careless.

I asked to speak to the general manager who was not available - they emailed me today saying, and I quote 'I understand from my Duty Manager on check out you had concerns about your room. We have charged your card for the full amount of accommodation according to the agreement in your confirmation. If you want to discuss this further, let me know'

A complete disregard of any of the issues with the hotel and no acknowledgement of fault. I wasn't even after a full refund - a gesture of goodwill of £10 and an apology would have sufficed.

I defiantly wont be recommending this hotel to colleagues or clients in the future.

All in all, a terrible experience, the best thing about it is the proximity of the tube station meaning a...
