The theatre space is what you would expect - intimate and engaging. so good independent theatre BUT the reason for my lower rating is that this is not pub theatre. If you look on the Contact page you'll see that the pub downstairs is shut (it may have re-opened as a restaurant since) Pub theatre is special because you can relax in the bar until the play starts and take your drinks upstairs with you. (And continue after the show!) This isn't an option at the moment (into the future?). The suggestion of bringing something from a local off-licence isn't really practical unless everyone wants to share the same thing. And drinks in another bar before or after isn't the same experience. There was absolutely nothing on offer in the theatre - not even a bar with limited options. I did let management know that this should be clearer when booking tickets and they did offer me an exchange (which I couldn't use) but I still don't see anything to clarify this...

Read moreThis theatre punches way above its weight with its productions. 5*. But it needs to be bought up to safe and acceptable standards for the patrons. Just before the start of the play, and with patrons absolutely crammed in, another 3 people with tickets arrived. Everyone was moved closer and those 3 were seated but it was impossible to move your arms at all. The air was stifling and way hotter than in the stairwell (the usher said the ventilation was on) and in that crammed space, fanning yourself with anything was not possible. The seating is very uncomfortable benches with no space underneath for coats/umbrellas etc. hence, the escape route along each row was impassable in a fire emergency with coats and umbrellas. I hope this theatre thrives but it has a responsibility to be fair and safe...
