As a party of 4 we arrived at 2.15 pm as booked to find just one customer in the pub and he drank up and left soon afterwards. Although just one couple arrived afterwards the only atmosphere in the place, apart from the overwhelming smell of old chip fat as we walked in, was the persistent head banging heavy metal rock music through the speakers. The food was abysmal. Not just awful...it was ABYSMAL!! My mash potatoes consisted of a collection of dried up inedible lumps and my grandson's fish batter was on the edge of being burnt to a crisp. The fish within also had a considerable amount of thick yellow oil in the middle of it of unidentifiable origin. My daughter-in-law and her friend both chose a chicken dish. Allegedly BBQ Chicken Burger. Both portions were suffocated in BBQ sauce, were cooked to death on the outside and subsequently dry on the inside. In their words their meal was 'revolting'. If you are happy to employ someone who can't even make mashed potato then no wonder the place is empty! I reported my disappointment regarding the inedible mash potato to the waiter asking him to ensure the 'chef' (lol) was aware. He replied 'we'd better make another batch' which kind of summed up the Tankard's attitude to food. The waiter was a nice guy and the bar lady was friendly.

This was a 5/5 experience. We had come to London for the day and was visiting the IWM and upon searching for restaurants nearby the Tankard come up and the food looked nice on the images and and the menu looked lovely. We entered 30 minutes prior to our booking just due to trains and they showed us our seat and it is a lovely little pub. You can tell the food is cooked from scratch, none of it was reheated of frozen, it was delicious! But the people in the pub were very friendly. It's dog friendly, and we even made friends with a little Jug who was so sweet and her owners were super kind. The staff though? Incredible! Best service I have seen in a pub in a long time. They genuinely seemed happy to be there serving the customers. Whoever was working there on 23/4/23 around 1:30-3:30 thank you. You deserve a raise as each member of staff we encountered was LOVELY❤️

Took the kids here for lunch. We had the Wing Wednesday deal and the cheese burger. The chicken wings were still crispy after having been drenched with sauces. That’s always a good sign for me. The fries were nice and crispy too and was a generous portion. The kids loved their meal. I was very impressed with the quality of the burger. Service was excellent, staff were attentive. The bar lady explained about the kids menu portions, so we decided on the adult version instead. It’s a lovely and clean pub with Christmas ambience. Glad l finally tried this place out. Will be back for the roast soon.

If it was possible to give no stars (0/5), I'd be overjoyed. As this is a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE PLACE! Don't visit.

The incident took place on Saturday 20th April 2019 between 20:45pm-21:30pm.

Myself, Friends and family (which include three children all under the age of 3) decided to have diner at 'The Tankard' as we had good hopes, however those positive expectations prior to our visit were completely shattered.

I’m still extremely disappointed with the poor service, foul and revolting attitude we received from the members of staff working that day, two men to be precise.

Two members of our group arrived at 19:30pm and the rest of us arrived at 20:45pm. Giving us more than enough time to place our order. As soon as we arrived not one member of staff said hello or offered to help us, as we were struggling with finding a table that'd fit the 9 of us including three kids under 3 and locating three high chairs. The members of staff literally stood there and gawked at us. After some time passed, we managed to handle it with no support from the people that actually work there. We got everyone seated, pushchairs packed to the side and began to look through the menu. I observed the members of staff serving another group and being very attentive to them.

One of us decided to go over to the member of staff, to ask what the next step was, do we wait for someone to take our orders? Do we go up to the bar to place our orders? What happens next? We don't know because that was our first time visiting 'The Tankard' and the members of staff were mute, uncommunicative and not welcoming at all. Hence why one of us had to approach them, at this point it was 20:58pm. She went up to the bar and asked the member of staff "how does it work, do we have to place our orders here or do you get our orders at the table" He then responded bluntly "kitchen's closed!". He was so frank, not one ounce of remorse. Ok fine, the kitchen closes at 9pm and I assume we had to order at the bar. But we were not privy to this information due to the fact that the staff members failed to make this essential piece of information accessible to our group prior to the kitchen closing. At least provide basic customer service to your customers. They watched us the whole time and said nothing. They literally gapped at us while we settled ourselves into out seats and never approached us not even to say exchange a hello all they shared were stares. We were only informed about the kitchen closing because they were approached. They had so many chances to say "Hello, just to let you know the kitchen closes at 9pm.. place your order here" it could have been that simple. We all sat there in disgust, we were so disappointed. We had to let what happened sink in and then gather our belongings and leave the pub. We all travel far from all over London to visit this pace but instead we all went back home with our empty stomachs.

Not one word was said by the members of staff during our time there, apart from "kitchen's closed", two words.

We were blatantly not welcome at 'The Tankard', they didn't want us in their space or eating from their kitchen....

We hosted our work Christmas party at The Tankard and had the whole upstairs area. All communications and planning beforehand was great and Sarah was very supportive. We pre-ordered some wine packages and the festive buffet but also had a drinks tab for draft beer and spirits and mixers. We loved that we had our own little bar upstairs with one barkeeper, who was amazing and did a great job. The food came out from around 6.30pm and the portions were very generous. We still had a lot leftover to take home. The taste was good but not exceptional. It was fairly standard Brewdog pub food (wings, little burgers, mac n cheese, cauliflower cheese, pigs in blankets etc.). The atmosphere was great and exactly what we were looking for as we wanted a bit more of a low key Christmas Party. It was enough space for 60-70 people indoors to stand but also having the outdoor area was very helpful. There are some heaters outside too, so it can be used in winter. Only downside on the atmosphere was that we couldn't play our own music and were told that they can only play the Brewdog playlists due to company policy. I understand that's out of the staff's control though. All in all we had a great party and will definitely come back for other occasions like the pub quiz. A big thanks to the staff - they...
