The photo of the three lovely staff members was the beautiful sight I was greeted by as I came down the stairs this morning. Such a lovely welcome - very genuine (obviously I asked their permission to post their photo). Our stay was really great. We stayed in a Premier Plus room, which was only £15 more than standard on our particular booking. In my opinion, it was well worth the extra. I just wish I’d taken photos when I first arrived, so please excuse our belongings/crumpled pillows, etc. The room was really nice - quiet and with a pleasantly contemporary design. The shower was fabulous - hot and powerful. The mirror was a little dark and misted up but didn’t take too long to clear. I love the fragrance of the products in the bathroom. There was a really nice coffee machine, glasses and a little fridge, which was enormously useful. I love the little round table with lounge chairs - comfortable but also extremely practical for my hubby to do a little bit of work on his laptop. The bed was extremely comfy and the thermostat worked like a dream - it was freezing outside so we got the room toasty warm in the evening but nice and cool at night. Breakfast was delicious. We had the full English but there are lots of other nice options and extras which you can return to as often as you please. Complements to the chef who cooked a delicious breakfast. As we were later diners, he came over to us and asked if there was anything else we wanted. He was very charming and we really appreciated his concern. There was a good amount of parking space and being just off Junction 1 of M6, the location is excellent for travelling North/South on M6, M1, around Midlands, etc. All in all, a great experience and our new ‘go to’ en route from the South to Cheshire/North...
Read moreWhilst the hotel itself was clean and modern, that's about all the positives I could even mention. My husband and I were supposed to stay with our two toddlers in a premium family room for 3 nights. We ended up having to leave and set off for our home in London (over 2 hours away) at 2am in the morning because the room was so hot to the point of us being unable to sleep and feeling ill. I am heavily pregnant and was extremely unwell due to the excessive temperature. This had nothing to do with the fact that it's summer and everything to do with the fact that there was NO AC UNIT in the room. The window opened just a crack and all we had was an outdated standing fan which blew hot air around the room. After our first sleepless night, I did try to explain to the reception staff that the room was far too overheated, to which they shrugged and said that there is no ac in the room and the best they could do is perhaps bring us another fan (to blow around more hot air?!) We travel quite a bit up and down the country and have stayed in many hotels but this is the first time we've ever had to flee a room in the middle of the night due to feeling unwell in the room conditions. My toddlers were crying and unable to sleep during the night and as mentioned, I am heavily pregnant and was very unwell by the time we left in the middle of the night. Honestly the worst possible end to our staycation. Unless they invest in ac units in all the rooms (which you would think is a standard in any UK hotel, surely?), I would strongly advise staying away...
Read moreWelcome to Premier inferno
Ah yes, the Premier Inn in Newbold, where comfort goes to die and sweat goes to thrive. Walked into my room and was immediately greeted by what I assume is the hotel's signature scent of mild dispar and boiled human. No air conditioning, of course, because why would there be, in the year of our lord 2025 during the hottest time of the year they thoughtfully provided a standing white fan that looked like it came out of a cereal box, one of those plastic whirring jokes that sounds like it’s doing something but moves air with the power of a tired hamster on a wheel. Cranked it up to speed 3 hoping for a breeze, but I'm pretty sure it actually slowed down time, an army of ants waving their little feet in my general direction would've likely provided a stronger breeze. You know it's bad when you're begging the fan to just try.
I must've accidentally booked the Premier Sauna Suite, because I’ve been marinating in my own humidity for hours and I'm sticking to the sheets like a human post it note. Tried sleeping, but the sound of the fan wheezing uselessly in the corner and my own pores screaming for the tiniest breezy relief kept me up.
Yes, the staff was nice and attentive, free car park, half decent location, but let's be real, you're here for the well advertised good night's sleep, and on that one important metric it was a positively...
