Quite a disappointing visit to the Bell and Barge in Rugby. The booking process was easy and we secured a table (outside as requested) for 7.30pm. When we arrived we were shown to the table politely and explained the process. However, that is when the great service ended and poor service started. After a VERY long wait a waitress arrived to take our drinks order. I asked what draft beers were available and I was offered a large selection of larger. I pushed the point and said I was after a draft beer (rather than larger) and I was offer some bottled beers or Guinness. Having decided that none of those were suitable I asked for a glass of merlot and was given something that was really quite unpleasant. Then, to add insult to injury I noticed another table receiving pints of Doom Bar - which, unless I am very much mistaken is a DRAFT BEER and something I would have gladly chosen if it had been offered to me. Maybe to fix this issue the B&B need to provide drinks menus. The food order was taken quite some time later and after another very long wait we chased up our visit to the salad bar. This then happened soon after and I have to say that part of the process went well. My main course that followed was the Beef brisket which was very dry and rather overcooked. See photo. No one retuned to our table to see if the food was ok - or offer us more drinks (which we would very gladly ordered as I still wanted the Doom Bar), so we left and settled the bill on the way out. I left no tip (and I am normally very generous on this front) and again there was no discussion about the quality of the evening. If there had been then I would be less likely to be writing this now. The best part of the evening (for me) other than my wife's company was the engaging conversation with the young man doing the salad bar who was great. On balance - I suspect we will not be rushing back despite the fact that we live very near by!.

So this morning decided to head out for breakfast and thought how about trying some where new. So decided to pop in to the Harvester, I've been for a couple of drinks there, but Sunday morning breakfast was calling. Car park busy on arrival but still plenty of spaces available. Then on walking into the main entrance got hit by the aroma not of a good fry up but of sewage! Immediately drew this to the attention of the server, and he dismissed it as smells from the drain from the beer garden. Luckily the two of us were seated on the opposite side of the restaurant to the entrance, with no aroma present! Service was slow for ordering initial drinks, and then food separately. Both could of been done at the same time, especially with a busy service. And only 3 on table service and one on drinks staffing could be better to minimise delays. From a food quality perspective cannot fault the Classic Breakfast (as seen in picture). Arrived well presented and tasty. Well done kitchen in that aspect. Would I come again? Possibly. I'll given it another chance, as the foods good, just front of house needs to be looked at and improved. And definitely call a plummer and check your kitchens grease trap is working! For the Harvester designers - Would like to see a different way to serve the unlimited filtered coffee - this may help speed service up. They have a cold drinks dispenser, a filtered coffee dispenser wouldn't be too difficult either. If Weatherspoons can manage it im sure you can. Additionally the rotisserie isn't the best to face the restaurant, won't be bringing other friends here as they are vegan and seeing the meat cook would put them off. When we arrived it was uncooked and just put in, although was fully cooked by the time we left and did look nice - but as a meat eater I can appreciate the final product.

Part of the extensive 'Harvester' stable and adjacent to the Premier Inn, this popular and well run establishment has but one (or two) flaws. As a follower of the Cask Marque AleTrail, this reviewer is always keen to support and dine wherever he sees the Casque-Mark emblem displayed on a venue - except in this case, it is sailing under false colours. The emblem is displayed, but it does not belong. It might have done once, but it is no longer, part of that elite group of Hostelries that can guarantee the patron of a perfect pint. This notwithstanding, the Doombar, Doombar or Doombar on offer during this visit - not exactly a varied choice - was in good enough condition. As was the food - plentiful, well presented and agreeably cooked. The serving staff also, engaging, customer focused and attentive.....all entitling to a higher star count - but, displaying an unearned Casque-Mark emblem...........(?)

Go elsewhere,do not waste your money as on the 9th/09/ 2024, l was here with close family/guest who were visiting me ,bearing in mind prior to my health issues l had visited previously a while back with others who were regular diners here & who initially introduced me to this place to visit, and were themselves spending over £100's a time here also .They have now also as a result of our negative and absolutely appalling experience/treatment boycotted this establishment in rugby completely and have vowed to never return and have decided to not only take their custom elsewhere, but have advised friends to do likewise & not to visit this particular harvester in rugby ever again or allow them to benefit from their further custom. l initially suggested this establishment 2 my guests visiting from out of the area as a special treat to celebrate a special occasion as they had travelled over 160 miles to see me and the subsequent visit here was meant to be a highlight to welcome them 2 the local area& enjoy a good dining experience. However, to say the service here was absolutely horrific is an complete understatement and doesn't go far enough. The staff who came to our table to take our respective food and drink orders, which took almost 15/20minutes to get the drinks alone never mind the food which arrived much later and l will elaborate more on the appalling food experience in a moment. After we ordered our drinks,we had to repeatedly keep asking where the drinks were, it took over 15/20minutes+ 2 get them, whilst the waitresses demonstrated a very poor & unprofessional attitude towards us as customers and literally stood around doing next to nothing but talking between themselves, it wasn't busy at that point. When they were asked politely by myself 2 get me a gluten-free menu and show me what they had to offer which was also suitable for vegans so l could order, as l recently had changed to a vegan and gluten-free diet for health reasons. The waitreses who took all the orders were extremely rude acted like they couldn't be arsed to do their job properly, and repeatedly messed up our orders by bringing items which had gluten in them, weren't vegan friendly, which l could not eat,& not what we ordered& was virtually lukewarm at best & very undercooked, so l complained to them and asked them 2 fetch the manager. They then retaliated by deliberately & vindictively telling the female OD manager that they had heard 1 of my guests using fowl language at the table which was completly untrue & a malicious lie as my guest who had never been here b4 & is of a quiet disposition had done nothing of the sort at any time whilst quietly sitting at the table,& others at the table confirmed that fact clearly stating the comments made by the servers 2 their manager whom we had asked 2 speak2 in the 1st instance 2 raise & outline our valid concerns about the poor service, bad attitude of staff who served us etc was untrue,I tried telling ODM that our food was undercooked & lukewarm, when finally brought to my table,& on at least 2 occasions prior2 eventually receiving the correct meals the 2 servers had deliberately brought the completley wrong orders 2 us despite my allergies being confirmed2them on numerous occasions including when l initially made the table reservation.Food was all sent back on more than 1 occasion, which didn't go down well with staff especially when l asked to talk with the ODM2 tell her of our bad dining experience. When the ODM finally appeared,I tried 2tell her calmly our issues outlined above giving honest feedback & challenged the false account given by staff, suddenly, the ODM,in a very aggressive&confrontational manner, began shouting at my guest who was just quietly sitting at the table, accusing her of using fowl language, with the deliberate intention of embarrassing/humiliating my guest infront of others becuz we had raised valid concerns about both the awful food & dining experience. My guest was visibly upset, distressed & in tears by whole experience/what happened. We all left in protest & will not be...

Portuguese waitress was fantastic . The Harvester manager has a son who is on the autistic spectrum. It is his idea, his creative innovation of how to embrace the wealth of diversity in our world and how to help and support individuals with a learning disability to overcome their individual challenges. For what he has achieved he should be given an award. He has given opportunities to many different people with learning disabilities , to work ,to be part of our work force . By example he shows how if a person with difficult personal challenges is supported with love ,commitment compassion, kindness , understanding and respect by others they will shine. The supporting staff, predominantly female who themselves come from varied backgrounds bring their empathy ,varied skills to provide a safety net for the people with disability to grow, learn develop until they show ANY doubting Thomas’s what incredible human beings they truly are. This ‘Harvester’ establishment is outstanding in its service, food, cleanliness and friendliness of all its staff. It gives the customer an uplifting experience and is a shining beacon of hope for anyone who either has special needs or supports someone with special needs that with the right attitude ,skill ,motivation that inclusiveness is utterly possible. The education department could learn a great deal from this wonderful manager who unlike many ,( not all management )within the area of special needs is person centred. They obviously thrive on their contribution towards this goal. I think the media should visit this outstanding Harvester restaurant. Here is an extravaganza of extraordinary human beings working together and achieving the happiest working environment I have ever been in where all walk tall because everyone’s worth and effort big or small is appreciated. Writing my first ever 1 star review :(

All the long wait for food and wrong order was just made a millions times worse by the utterly unacceptable way I was spoken to by Jo the bartender/staff member, who dealt with our table saying we were displeased with our food and wait.

We had over an hour and a half wait for food, when it did arrive the order was wrong and for the £15 I paid for my burger I expected better.

I would expect the cheese to be at least slightly melted and not just slapped on top of the burger. Squished bun and just presented in the smallest manner possible.

When we arrived we were not initially told of the wait for food (I had to over hear this from another customer being told). I understand the busy restaurant and initial longer wait for food. But we were told that we couldn't even place our order, it would be 45 minutes until we could even attempt to be put into the system. Clearly other people who arrived after us ordered in this time and got their order through before ours too.

Once we prompted the staff to put our order through we then had at least another 40 minute wait for the burgers to be bought out.

Again all of this I can sometimes understand in a busy restaurant.

However, what I cannot understand is the horrendous tone my party and I were spoken to by Jo, the bartender. She spoke to me in a very aggresive manner when I dare complain or state my unhappiness with the meal (as I stated above, wrongly served food) and the quality of food; as well as the wait time. We were berrated and told it was our fault and that we knew there was a 45 minute wait on food (as I stated I had to find this out myself and this was a 45 minute stated wait time, not the hour and half we had). I teach in a school where I deal with students who struggle to express themselves and can become angry or aggressive; it took all my patience that I have learnt through my work in order to handle the tone and manner that we were spoken to by Jo. I left upset, angry and deeply shaken from my experience of how I was spoken to.

The 5 pound coins I was begrudgingly given as some form of refund (as I really didn't want to accept a pudding takeaway as any form of recompense for my meal) have gone little way at all to make up for what I experienced.

I understand work is stressful and busy; but an apology for the wait and wrong order was probably all I needed to make things ok. What I got was confrontation, blame and aggresive...
