PLease read full review including update for a more informed decision, I have amended my original rating.
Booked for 2 days, specially this hotel as it was once known as purple Hotel as such its rooms are slightly bigger and each room varies a little in terms of room size-layout. Both myself and friend have disabilities. He has M.S I have M.E. and fibromyalgia. I booked an acessable room for the layout ie space and bathroom support ie grab rails lower sink etc. Most importantly a room with both a bath and shower as both myself and friend only have wet rooms at home. We booked this room as the bath was one main reason to stay ie for using as rest bit to have Epsom salt baths for pain etc. The room was well thought out, clean, modern and had basic tea coffee, fan, flat screen TV with extra pillows. Also you can request hair dryer and iron I think from reception. We also took advantage of booking a late checkout for extra £10 although thus was slightly let down as brief outside maintaince work luckily I was able to get back to sleep. The staff and cleaners are friendly and helpful. The hotel offers breakfast to pre book or buy onside. The breakfast was disappointing would much pref better quality ingredients and pay extra than tasteless poor low value. They also do basic ready meal ,pizza, burger evening meals mon- Fri but we didn't use. There's also bar service too small selection and communal seating in the breakfast/reception area. Overall perfect location as we just wanted to catch a movie at the Meadowhall complex and meal then have day rest bite and recovery. Will deffinatly book again if could have same room. Only issue had was the tel number on booking is charged at over 30p per min!!! Also had issue try to book using website possible glitch. But got there eventually.
OK so here's an update to my review on the last occasion we stayed it had become clear that Sheffield Council had struck a deal to house homeless people there. Which ok is compassionate but here's the thing. The majority of these homeless people are not without problems eg they have drink issues or self care issues. We witnessed a lady pushing her stroller with carrier bags around . A few with bottles of alcohol and certain corridor areas etc smelt of accidents. I also don't feel confident the rooms are adequate cleaned between housing them and paying guests. The police had to be called out too.
I feel that if your a paying guest that goes to an establishment to rest get away from life to have the time luxury spoilt with harsh reality is not the experience you pay for.
The council needs to get its act together and the hotel needs to choose which direction it wants to go in . Because trying to be a drop in centre and homeless crash point and a family friendly hotel is not working.
I also am not keen on pets being able to stay as there is no area that's off limits for them ie allowed in bar area-eating area plus obviously the guests will let them go on there beds. If an hotel is going to encourage animals then the owners should be made to pay for a one off deep carpet clean not just hoover.
As result of the above I am going to take...
Read moreThis is one of the better sites. I'm suprised to be saying the bed was really comfortable and I did have a good sleep. As the weather was cold the room had a staff card inside so the room would not be cold. Electric wall heater which was silent but give out lots heat and some for my large room.
The bathroom is dated signs of wear and tear you know as you almost come to expect those stains or missed bits in Travel lodge bathrooms, which I would say is difficult for the cleaners to get too or because it's cheaper quality it just stains quicker than say a modern Premier Inn. The shower was hot clean towels, i was happy with that.
Restaurant, its not the Ritz and you kind of know it sitting on your chair which isn't comfortable its like a school chair with a tiny bit of padding. It's all basic but it was clean and in good order. If you drop the romantic out of it you know where I'm coming from.
Food was good value from what I could see, I had the fish and chips which was disappointing, I call it fake fish, but its best described as being adult fish fingers. They did have fish fingers on the menu but that's not what I ordered. So you don't get a full fish, that is stated on the menu. So it wasn't a surprise, it was more batter than fish.
If I was staying at this travel lodge again, I would try the food again, as others did have nice looking plates of food. But not restaurant quality. But alot better than other travel lodges I've been before.
Breakfast its not a premier Inn but this site held its own. I really wasn't looking forward to breakfast as the last travel lodge I stayed in the hash browns tasted like they had been cooked in a fish fryer with dirty oil. So when I seen nice looking hash browns I decided to give them ago and they were OK, not has hot or crispy as I would have liked but ok. The rest of the breakfast serving looked good. I stayed with the sausages as the bacon was as not crispy for my liking but that's me. By the pile of food the trades men were having at this site the breakfast went down really well with unlimited coffee. Shame no takeaway cups that I could see. Positives Bed and a comfy warm sleep, down site being the dated bathroom.

Read moreDo not stay at this hotel, wish I knew that this is a high crime area and the hotel car park security does not match its location! I would advise the hotel upping the cost of the room by £10 a night, and having a night security man preferably with a large angry dog! I stayed for one night, to wake up and find my van had fallen victim to a 'peel and steal', the lowest of the low thieves, who when not robbing the elderly do the second worse, try and steal tools from a self employed engineer! Peeled my 6 week old vans door to take a look but then realised - no access to power tools so move onto the next! Travelodge don't help, police don't care, now left with an excess of £650 to pay and a several week wait for the repairs to be done - less than a week before christmas!
AN UPDATE: After numerous attempts to get the CCTV footage from travelodge, they strung me along for weeks and then stated that they would not be able to provide this information to me since it was under police investigation - I spoke to the police who are telling me that they are not pursuing this case! Travelodge have refunded me my nights cost but anyone considering staying here, please, please consider the fact - that although they may appear to care about your security - the CCTV's are purely decorative, and they will not help you, when things go wrong!! I have had deadlocks fitted on my van but the security lock fitters main advice is - 'do not stay at Travelodges or Premier Inns' they are an easy target for thieves, and in my experience - they are not doing enough to address...
