Went here today spontaneously for dinner. The food was basically inedible. Even my kids left most of theirs. There was not much choice really, and about a quarter of it wasn't Thai (dry fish fingers, onion rings, chips, dry chicken wings) papaya salad with none of the sides or toppings. Masaman had whole new potatoes in it (like the ones from a tin). The salad was like a cheap pizza but salad bar, and there was 3 selections of equally ropey looking noodles. Desert bar had doughnuts which were so dry my son couldn't chew it, fruits and marshmallows, pancakes from a packet and 'Thai custard'. The only actual Thai pudding was stewed bananas which were sadly not that nice. The ice cream was frozen solid so my kids couldn't even get a simple chocolate ice-cream. When I think about the fact it cost us £20 each to eat it makes me cross. We all came home and drank loads of water too which usually means the foods been cooked with msg. It was bland, nasty, dry, tough, bad bad food. When you have places like Zaap and Lemongrass in the city you should really make more of an effort. The service was OK, but I felt like we were dining at McDonald's - shown to our seats then not spoken to again until we paid, and the waitress was visibly upset we hadn't left a tip. The whole place looked kinda nice from the outside but felt worn and unloved once seated. Wouldn't go back again even if the...
Read moreI had high hopes for this place given its new, its massive and in a prime location in Meadowhall. How utterly disappointing from the first impression of having to wait for a harried looking woman who honestly did not know what she was doing. She had to ask about 3 times who we were, what time we were there for etc. we had a reservation for 5 people.
The restaurant is hot. As in boiling from the heat of the atrium coming up and no AC. The food is an embarrassment to Thai food. It’s tasteless, lacking protein and not good. The jasmine rice was claggy and tasted off. The noodle dishes were messy and looked as tho no pride was taken. Most disappointing were the curries. Zero flavour. How is it possible to make Thai curry with no flavour? It was watery, no spice and no authenticity. The rest of the dishes were what you’d get in the worst British Chinese buffet. I was horrified with the sweet and sour chicken. It was made with cheap, chicken nuggets instead of pieces of chicken. The fried fish was greasy, lots of batter and no fish.
Please take this feedback in the spirit it is given. It’s not a good experience and Thaikhun can do better. Bulking out food with lots of cheap veg, processed chicken and watery sauce isn’t the way to go. If this is what you get for £19.95 then hard pass. Will not be going back.
And if you’re thinking of going, unfortunately this will be...
Read moreWe arrived for our booked table and was stood waiting for around 5-10 minutes to even be acknowledged, once eventually acknowledged we were seated by a lovely young girl who said she'd be back in a moment to take our drink order. Another 10-15 minutes past of us just sat there with the very few waiters/waitresses they had in walk by, when she came back she took our order and advised for us to go up when ready. The food is absolutely to die for and the chef serving the soup was lovely, there is limited choice but it does mean that all the food is constantly fresh and cooked beautifully. Once we sat back down our drinks still had yet to arrive and we actually ended up on our second plate of food before I had to call a waiter over to ask where our drinks are. He asked if we'd ordered them to which I replied yes and he advised they were being made, which wasn't true as shortly afterwards I saw him making them and then he sent the female bartender to deliver them rather than delivering them himself and apologising for the wait. The desserts are lacking and not to our taste but that is our personal taste, we did discuss how possibly adding more fruit to provide more variety. Over all the food was 5/5 but unfortunately the customer service skills are lacking by some members...
