My family and I came in to Akron, Ohio for my nieces wedding. We were able to check in a bit early, and I had booked 3 rooms for 2 nights. Of the 6 nights stay between the 3 rooms, I had used Marriott points, and was paying for one of the nights. The rooms themselves were fine and there were no issues. My wedding host asked if we were given our gift bags which we were not, and we then had to ask for them later in the day.
Later that evening another guest (friend of ours) had cut her had very badly, and my daughter went to the front desk for a first aid kit or bandage. She waited for 10 minutes before someone could produce a band-aid, so there must not be any type of first aid lit in the hotel, which is concerning.
My biggest complaint happened during our second nights stay. I received a call at 12:40am in my room from the front desk staff demanding I come down to put a credit card on file. I was told I am not even a guest at the hotel and my room would be given to another guest. I was barely awake when I came down as I was in a deep sleep, because we returned from my nieces wedding only an hour before. The front desk staff was rude and said I would be evicted unless I provided a valid credit card (which I had the day we checked in - apparently the issue was that I received a new Bonvoy credit card after making the initial reservation). Once I supplied the credit card I was told everything was ok and I could go back upstairs to get some sleep. Sleep I needed desperately as we drove 500 miles the day before from NY, and I was waking at 5:00am to drive my son the airport the next morning before our 500 mile drive back to NY.
The following morning I did complain to the manager of my ordeal overnight. She said she was aware that their was a problem with my credit card. She also explained that the front desk staff tried to contact me earlier (I was at the hotel until 4:00pm when we left to enjoy my nieces beautiful wedding.) I never received a call until 12:40am. She explained that technically I was not a guest that evening. Yet, no one tried to rectify the situation with me before 12:40am and I had no idea that there was even a problem. The manager apologized but offered no consolation to me. I had to ask if they would credit some points to my account, once I got home I was given 1000 points, which I do not feel equates to the major upset and accusations I was put through in the middle of the night. I did not feel her apology was heartfelt,...
Read moreWe stayed for 1 night in early October of 2023. My wife and I had flown from Arizona to bicycle the Ohio to Erie Trail from Newport Kentucky to Cleveland (about 350 miles the way we routed it). During trip planning, I selected this Akron area hotel solely because it was near to the bicycle trail. I was not thrilled with the room rates but convenience won out. Upon arrival at the check in desk, we were not greeted with good customer service. In fact, the afternoon attendant was borderline rude. I then inquired how I could purchase another breakfast as I had prepaid for only one breakfast during booking. I was told that it did not appear that I had pre-payed for that and unless I showed some form of proof, I was not entitled to the breakfast. The person was simply not helpful. I had proof of the breakfast purchase and the reaction of the attendant was of surprise. No apology was issued. I thanked the person upon leaving the desk with no curteous return response.||I would not recommend the purchase of a breakfast onsite in any event, especially for trail riders. It is small and expensive. ||Upon checkout in the morning, we rolled our bikes past the front desk morning attendant without a single word from that employee.||Positives at this hotel include the workout gym (not used by us!) and the coin operated laundry facility. The rooms seemed clean but the view was really bad if that matters. Pleasant restaurants are very nearby. ||Because of the lack of congeniality by the staff and because of the room rates and lack of a complementary breakfast, I do not recommend this hotel especially for touring cyclists. If you are riding the OTET (Ohio to Erie Trail), I would recommend finding other lodging in Akron or simply avoiding Akron altogether. There are better...
Read moreWe stayed in the King Suite with sleeper sofa. Was told could sleep 4 people comfortably. Elderly father was having surgery next day and needed to stay overnight near the hospital. Travelling with father, mother, aunt, and myself (ages 51 to 74) Mattress on sleeper sofa very bad with springs easily felt poking in back. Unable to use. Noisy street traffic. Near loud bar with drunks in street. Ventilation (heat/air conditioning system) very noisy. Doors do not shut completely so limited privacy which might not be problem for married couple, but we were 4 people staying there sharing 2 toilets. No place to hang wet towels to dry. Four people booked for room, but all supplies of coffee cups, drinking cups, sugar packets, etc were only in two's for two people. Told them night before our planned checkout time next day so we could make it in time to hospital for a scheduled surgery and that we would want to change payment method. Told us they could not change payment method until next day at checkout. We expressed concern for delay to check out to make it to surgery on time if had to hassle at checkout to change payment method at 5:30am. We warned desk clerk we would be in a rush in the morning and would want to check out very early. Desk clerk said no problem, no delay, someone there all night anytime and could check us out without delays. But when went to check out at exact time warned them night before, the night shift worker was not told our check out time would be at 5:30am and she was balancing the register. She said she always balances the register at that time and could not check us out for another 20 minutes! As we had worried.....and had warned them the night before to try to avoid....we were late checking out of the hotel to get to our scheduled surgery time at...
