We booked Musica for a private birthday party. After a series of false starts, we managed to get an agreement in place and the event was OUTSTANDING. Manager Jenn Kidd did an excellent job of wrangling all of the loose ends to pull together a great evening for over 150 guests, from beginning to end. The sound engineer was on-point, the bartenders were plentiful and hard working, and coordination with our band, karaoke DJ, and catering was seamless. The venue was clean and the decorations and lighting were great. Cost-wise, it was more reasonable and -- to us -- much cooler than the local wedding reception venues that we considered for our party. Our gig ran late as everyone was having a good time and no one at Musica complained. Finally, a few of our personal items got left behind on the night of the event and the manager went the extra mile (literally) to drop them off at our house. I expect that this venue will see a lot more events, both private and promoted, as word gets out that it is experiencing a renaissance under...
Read moreIt was my second and final night in Akron for a work trip and I thought "Hmm, Friday night? And I'm downtown? Better Google some events." I find a low-budget poster promoting what appear to be bands for a $12 cover within walking distance of my hotel. I take the risk.
So glad someone bothered to publish that little show, because it was unreal. Good people and great music at Musica. The bartender's warmth (young dark-haired, light-eyed woman with the "family cottage in Ontario"), Diet Smiles's lead's wild hair flips and, of course, Super Culture's delicious Pink-Floyd 🤝 Sonic Youth pop-worthy melodies—all ingredients to what turned out to be a beautiful night.
This bar/live venue has a wide selection of alcoholic beverages, spaced out seating, clean and resourceful restroom facilities, and charming indie decor. No food, though (for that, find the secret flight of stairs and Scooby-sniff your way to Totally Baked pizzeria).
Thanks and long live! Akron can and...
Read moreMusica is a fantastic music venue in downtown Akron. It's hidden off the main drag in a parking lot like alley. I first went there for a funeral/remembrance and fell in love with the giant neon sign commanding you to DANCE right next to the sign for ice cream. While there was no ice cream, the two together found a way to my heart. Shows are reasonably priced for entry at the door, and I was surprised that they actually took credit card for entry fee (though maybe not always so you will have to check). The stage is right in the middle with a dance floor in front of it but there is a lot of room on either side of the dance floor and even in the back. It's large enough to get quite a bit of fans in the place, but small enough where you still feel intimately connected to the performers. WhiskertinLight also had their lighting on display at this last one and they have some fantastic lights so if you get a chance to check...
