Overall, we had a very nice stay though I do have quite a few thoughts about it.
First, as someone who doesn't always book a handicap room I was immensely happy that we did this trip! If you have any kind of mobility problem or disability, make sure they know about it or book a handicap room! This is because what they don't make very clear on their site is how steep the hill is that their hotel is built into. The complex is essentially a bunch of two story motel blocks in that there is only stairs to access the second floor and each room as external doors, not hallways. This isn't a big deal, just not very apparent.
While their handicap rooms are nice for someone like me who needs a little extra room and NO stairs, there are huge drawbacks as well. Our room was down a steep hill which is difficult for me to navigate. We could have called for a golf cart to give us a ride each time but that is hugely time consuming as it's a wait, but it is available as an option most of the time which is nice. The room at first had a television we could not control with the remote which makes it not useable for a handicap person. When we called the front desk we were told "the tv in that room is finicky." Which lead us to believe we were stuck with it. Wifi internet was good, so at least we had that. Thank goodness the fix it guy came and took care of it though. He was great! The handicap room we were in did not have a low entry shower. It was a standard tub and toilet with extra space in the room. Though many things were lowered such as the bed, handles, peephole, clothing rack, etc. So many good and some bad.
It is a beautiful property though the view we paid extra for was a bit obstructed by another building. Blackout curtains work great which is massively important in the summer with daylight nearly all day. Some meal options on site if needed, though limited. Close to other things in the area, but parking is difficult. Only two handicap spots. Driveway is tight and tour buses do come up the hill! It's busy in the mornings!
Overall though like I said it was a good experience. We got the extra pillows I need quickly. Tv fixed. Bed comfortable. Biggest complaint would be the grounds and limited food options for various meals. Staff was wonderful!
I recommend them for sure!
(Note: we visited in Summer 2021 when things were still slowly returning to normal in the area. Obviously that doesn't affect a lot of this, but staffing may change, food options, etc in...
Read more2 stars is an honest and generous review and Ive never written a review unless it’s a 5 star compliment. This hotel is right next to Denali National park which is a huge plus and also has a solid restaurant open from 4-10 each evening on site where you can get a reliable meal. If location is key and quality doesn’t matter, this is your best bet. However-there are multiple hotels in front of the park entrance and I encourage you to explore all options before booking this hotel. I fell for the trap based on good Google reviews I’d seen. Not sure if these reviewers actually stayed at this hotel or they’re from family friends of the owners. The rooms themselves are of the quality of a very dated and questionable roadside motel. Our room did not have a mountain view and as far as I can tell there are very few rooms that do have a “view” based on the design of the hotel. The mattresses are the super low quality type a couple inches thick that keep you up at night thinking about why you can’t sleep. Service was consistently very poor at the front desk staff. I called multiple times to try and upgrade rooms to make sure I got my family a view and the phones were never answered once leading up to our stay. Upon check in the front desk staff was quite short and indifferent and let me know there were no options to upgrade with a view. The cherry on top was when I was informed checkout was at 10am. I requested an 11am checkout (1 hour extension) to have a chance to come back and shower after white water rafting. I was told by the front desk associate they could not accommodate a late checkout because they were super short staffed. I had two rooms so I asked if I could check out of one and have a late checkout for the other. I asked to speak with the manager who then sent out the poor front desk associate back out to tell me she had decided not to grant me a late checkout and they couldn’t extend one of my two rooms by an hour. I spared the messenger and requested to speak to the unnamed manager. When she finally had to courage to walk to the front desk, she informed me they didn’t have the staff to grant me an hour late checkout and I could not purchase a late checkout either. In the end we ended up driving to our next destination soaking wet and It was the only blip in our amazing family vacation to...
Read moreDO NOT BOOK WITH THIS HOTEL! Any review left in the past week is clearly an AI generated review. I wish I could leave negative starts. Denali Bluffs Hotel doesn’t even deserve one star. This hotel is unethical, greedy and has no concern for the safety of their guests. Paulette, the manager, does not care about hotel guests and is willing to sacrifice their safety for money. I wouldn’t touch this place with a 10-foot pole.
We were supposed to stay at the hotel 7/4-7/6. The Riley Creek Wildfire broke out 6/30 and because of this the hotel’s operations were impacted. There was no power in the days leading up to our stay and the phone lines did not re-open until the day AFTER we were supposed to arrive. In the days leading up to our stay we tried to call the hotel almost every other hour to check on the status of safety and operations. When we couldn’t reach anyone at the hotel, we reached out to the Denali Chamber of Commerce to see if they knew how to contact our hotel. Denali Bluffs Hotel did not send an email or post anything on their website to let guests know the status of their operations. Since there was no way to know if the hotel was open, we were forced to make alternate hotel arrangements. We were finally able to reach someone at Denali Bluffs Hotel on 7/5 in the afternoon (the day AFTER we were supposed to arrive). We were told that we would not be getting a refund because they do not offer refunds within 14 days of arrival. While this is a reasonable policy under normal circumstances…it is NOT reasonable or ethical to not offer a refund if there is a natural disaster that is beyond the control of guests. Denali Bluffs claims that on 7/4 their business was not impacted by the fires and therefore would not offer a refund…but their phone lines were down and guests had no way to contact the hotel to know if it safe or even open…that sure does sound like an impact to me. According to Paulette, the manager, we should have driven 5+ hours from Anchorage with our toddler to see if they were open.
