As part of our Regent land tour in Alaska we stayed at Grande Denali. We tried to eat at Alpenglow but the staff succeeded in driving us away. We had a reservation at 8, and when the host called us we noticed a nice table open by the window and asked for it. While we waited 15 minutes for it to be cleaned, they seated 20 more folks before finally realizing the table still hadn't been bussed. The table was cleaned, and before we could be seated folks at the bar took the table. The host did nothing when we pointed this out. Finally we just sat at the bar in front of the register area.
We asked the bartender a question and we were told just a moment. We watched them scramble for 5 minutes while they debated how to do their jobs before the bartender returned and asked for our order, and as soon as my wife started to speak the bartender immediately interrupted her and started talking to their associate, and told us to wait again! Such rudeness and incompetence again! So we left. We can take a hint.
We then tried to purchase a sandwich at the grab and go in the lobby, but the kids running the register didn't have access to enable the CC scanner they insisted we use. No billing the room. 10 minutes later and a manager comes and enables the reader and we finally are allowed to pay.
While it's a renovated property, it's not right asking such huge $$$ for less than zero value and treating guests so rudely. The walls are paper thin and it's very noisy. Finally the shuttle to the bottom of the hill to where all the other places to eat are stops at 8:45, so you are virtually a hostage unless you can walk a very steep half mile path each way.
We didn't have a choice, but if you do choose...
Read moreWell I’ll start this one with the service. Our server was incredible and deserves a raise. I don’t remember her name but I believe her name tag said she was from New Mexico (which is odd but I guess they’re tired of being asked by old people). Anyway I’m not some kind of snarky reviewer but some places deserve a warning. We just came out of 4 nights of rainy back country hiking/camping and wanted a nice warm bed and a good meal. This place was one of the only available and looked nice. Blah blah we finally get to dinner. The menu is limited to one page of Italian inspired food. No red meat on the menu. TF? So you get pasta or fish. Or pasta with fish, who eats that? The fish and chips were remarkably underwhelming and incredibly overpriced. Hip hop fish and chicken in baltimore has a better fish and fries for 6.99. Not even sure it was fish in the extra thick deep fried batter situation. Could have been cat food? I don’t know for sure. The spaghetti with chicken breast was not even as good as what I can make in my 1 bedroom efficiency on a food stamp budget. Yet it was 40 some dollars. Appalling honestly. Did I mention our server was great? Food was a -1 out of 10, and that’s coming from being starved in the backcountry eating only freeze dried meals. The fancy mozzarella balls appetizer was ok. Not nearly as good as Cheesecake Factory. The highlight of my meal was my bottomless dr. Pepper. So with tip 150 bucks got a meal that was lower quality then TGI Fridays. Do yourself a favor and take the bus to the boardwalk and...

Service: 5/5 The staff provides exceptional service, from warm greetings to knowledgeable menu recommendations. Their genuine hospitality enhances the dining experience.
Food: 5/5 The menu features fresh, locally influenced dishes. For an appetizer the Reindeer and Melon Flatbread was light, fresh, and incredibly flavorful. The Pork Shanks were hearty and tasted great with the reindeer sausage. The Shrimp and Grits were the best shrimp and grits I have ever had! The grits were incredibly creamy and the shrimp tasted fresh and was seasoned to perfection. Desserts like the Coffee Cake Bread Pudding are the perfect end to the meal.
Value: 5/5 While on the pricier side, the quality of food, service, and ambiance justifies the cost.
