Ordered the Carne Asada, Carnitas, Octopus, and Elk tacos as well as Queso Fundido and Queso Blanco. The carne asada was a bit dry and I wish I was more flavorful, however the elk was too seasoned and hard to eat. The octopus was chewy and also hard to eat. We took one bite of the elk and octopus and did not finish those two. The queso fundido was fine, but due to the cold Alaska temperatures (we went late August, so still summer), the cheese on top hardened and made it extremely difficult to eat so we didn't finish that either - it would be much better if that dish were reimagined so the cheese doesn't create a solid film on top of the meat. We also ordered the housebrewed limeaids which had a severe flavor of lime rind which was very unpleasant. I had to water it down in order for it to be drinkable. The best part of our meal was the chips that came with the quesos, but even those were overly salty. It was also very very expensive for what you get - for three people we spent $100+. I understand it's expensive everywhere in this area, but that was not money well spent. Overall I would not recommend this place to anyone visiting the beautiful...
Read moreSuch a wonderful gem tucked away on the edge of the Denali National Park. It's a steep climb up, but they have a shuttle that will pick you up if you want. Just call.
The food is a wonderful fusion of Mexican flavors and Alaskan ingredients. The Queso Fundido with Alaskan Yak Chorizo is a glorious combination of spices, cheese, and yak. It's a must try appetizer! The Beef Birria Quesadilla is scrumptious with just the right amount of cilantro and pickled onions on the side. Each of the other tacos are simply on point.
The full service bar has a nice selection of canned/bottled and draft beers, as well as a great selection of spirits.
During our meal, we were able to watch the train across the valley, view the spectacular mountains, and enjoy the Alaskan countryside.
If I ever make it back to Denali, I will make a point to climb the hill for Taco Tuesday! Thank you,...
Read morethe food was okay. we ordered the chips and creamy jalapeño, one birria quesadilla, a bowl of chicken tortilla soup and two pollo tacos.
the best part about our order was the chips and creamy jalapeño dip. the birria quesadilla was more like a taco and not what i’m used to for a quesadilla (i’m from TX and live in CA) but the flavor was decent. I do not recommend the tortilla soup. the flavor and texture were off so we tossed it unfortunately. the pollo tacos were fine.
the main reason i’m giving this place two stars is because the staff behind the counter was not changing their gloves after taking out the bathroom trash and then serving customers food with the same dirty gloves, while touching a number of other...
