The Mountaineer Grill & Bar — Restaurant in Alaska

Having owned my own business for 20 years I don’t take writing a negative review lightly but it concerns me this place will make you ill or at best waste your hard earned cash. Husband grabbed a to go order as we are staying at the Denali Bluffs hotel. After they made the order incorrectly twice he eventually gave up and just took what they gave him. His burger was still wrong and smothered in sauce that he had specifically asked to be removed. I got what they called Alaskan cod. I took one mouthful and nearly threw up, the fish had a very odd taste and smell and I believe was off as well as being greasy. As they had remade his order it was also lukewarm and the waffle fries completely cold. The coleslaw was very peppery and bitter tasting and the potato salad overwhelmingly smoky with hardly any actual potato in. Rather then risk getting sick from off fish everything went straight in the trash as it was inedible. $52 wasted and in the trash. Fortunately we had bought some yogurts and had those for diner. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Smoked Portobello sandwich Out of right field, this sandwich was amazing. Only got a few waffle fries, though.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ BBQ Sampler - wayyyyy too small. Mediocre BBQ, but the birch sauce was interesting. Only 4 French fries. The brisket and reindeer sausage was terrible. The wings and the ribs were good.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Cobb Salad - GIANT salad with tons of toppings

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Skillet Cornbread - better than most, but a little bit dry

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cod Fish and Chips - good, but didn’t crisp fries like asked.

⭐️Chicken Sandwich - came out burnt the first time and overdone/dry the second time. He said it was the worst he’s ever had.

The service was good and fixed the mistakes.

Stayed here and due to convenience, ate here 2 evenings. My reviews 1 Dinner eat in: fish and chips ok, nothing special. Chicken wings were the worse I have ever tasted. Outside charred. I have never in my life sent anything back , but these were so overcooked! Sent them back and identical looking platter came out. I was Informed they smoke wings , then fry? Could not eat, too tough. Breakfast: good . Scrambled eggs didn’t tasted like mine at home? 2nd Dinner— take out: cups of each soup (tomato and clam chowder). Hit the spot on a damp night

Overall: read reviews before you go in. The bbq platter did look good.

3 star only because of chicken wings and I would have sent back the 2nd time, but too exhausted and I felt bad for server because it wasn’t her fault, however best to explain how it is...
