Had it not been for Issa the waitress in the dining room our experience would have been 5 stars She’s ignorant and gave great attention to white customers. Rushing us , put our tea in to go cups & when asked why , she replied with a question. ( Did you not want a regular tea cup ) That’s not great hospitality or the customer service experience we expected. We want a tea cup just like you gave everyone else or you should have asked first before assuming. Then she was rushing us to order rolling her eyes and told us she was trying to rush for white customers that was coming in lager party. Perhaps i can come back to teach her lessons in cultural diversity courses. I had spoke with the owner for 35 minutes when I came down alone earlier that morning to eat peacefully. Perhaps this would not have happened. We expect the same treatment as the white customers. This is not the 50’s although we still experienced racism twice there from a place of diversity. This was not a to go order so don’t treat us like that. However Stephen the Asst Manager was exceptional! He made sure myself & Gmom was ok on our first night 11-13 . He came to our room and apologized for the outlet and gave us voucher for breakfast. The bed was comfy but the bed needs to be pushed back to the headboard. They had microwave & no slip mats in the tub which was great & the first time we experienced that . We travel all over the world so that was a great having those amenities. Stephen was great . The front desk ladies needs a bit of training because they charged the wrong card for our stay after I specifically told them what card to use , they said ok and charged my card instead of my Gmom’s card in which I used to check in online with incidentals so why would I use a different card for the stay . I did not ask to separate those charges so their comprehension was not to our liking as this was a first . There should never be problems with the front desk like that . I specifically said charge the card I checked in online with for everything!!!! They said ok ! Stephen had to apologize for that as well . He also apologized for the waitress ignorance as well . Apologizing should not be coming from one person. We truly appreciated his patience, kindness, attentiveness in dealing with our situation. Hoping Issa will not be there on my return. If so I prefer Dale , he came over to us to check on us to make sure we were ok . Issa knew what she was doing , but gave excuses to not apologize. The hotel is historic & beautiful but one person can ruin the experience. The breakfast was exceptional! So Stephen I am writing to say your dedication to service is 5 stars & top notch, but the front desk issue & dining experience with Issa is a 2 stars . Those two things make your stay as well as comfort so the room wins over service. Tell Al thanks for the early chat . I will definitely visit again with hopes of giving a 5 star review for everything. We love you Stephen but our service from front desk & dining was terrible. You were only doing what you are supposed to be doing in Management. The employees under management needs addressing & definitely cultural diversity courses. Also the bell guys were MIA so Stephen had to bring down our luggage as well & assisted us in the car . It’s not ok for one person to handle everything! Also this is the first hotel that didn’t have water in rooms as amenities! But room 5 stars ....
Read moreI stayed here to be within walking distance of PPL center, and it definitely is! I came during a windstorm with low temperatures around 12 degrees outside, I anticipated using the heat a little more than I usually do at hotels. When we arrived Elias was our valet and he was perfect and professional. Front desk gave us room 201, which ended up being a corner room. The room is small, but enough for my small trip, I noticed immediately that the thermostat said is was 65, but set to 71. There was also incessant banging outside the window from a piece of metal that was hanging on the left side of the frame. The wind was not helping with that, but I imagine I normal weather it’s not an issue. I messed around with the thermostat, but couldn’t get it to adjust. We called down to the front desk that had the capability to adjust the thermostat. I noticed that they set it to 77. We went to dinner a little later and told them there had been no change in temperature. They said they would go up and check and monitor the temp from the desk. When we returned from dinner, no one had checked on the room. She looked and noticed that the temp was still the same. When I got upstairs the temp was set to 90! Still at 65 in the room. I’m not sure when the right time to set a thermostat that high is…. Anyway. The general manager was there in shorts and a tie dye hoodie. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, since the front desk said that many rooms were experiencing this issue. So maybe he came in on his night off to help out real quick and be on his way? I was giving the benefit of doubt. They got us a new room and it was better. The rooms are nicely laid out and the beds are comfy, shower pressure is decent, all the works. I noticed the heat was set to 77 and the room was 72, and it felt ok in there. The next morning we needed valet to retrieve our car and it was the general manager in the same outfit as last night- which I know sounds trivial, but if all the other staff have to look professional why shouldn’t he? It just didn’t seem like an equal work balance. He also drove my car a little faster than I cared for which lead to a hard stop later on, I digress. That night in our new room, 213, it had jumped to 75 which was much too warm. I called the front desk to ask if they could turn it down, I never saw the set temp move, so I turned it off. Which was ok. Would I just stay here on a whim if I hadn’t needed to go to PPL center? No, but I would stay again if I was going to concert there again. The building is old and has it issues, but overall it was clean and the staff who is out there working with guests were helpful and kind, which meant I didn’t have to escalate and deal with that manager. The biggest down fall was the climate control- there really isn’t any and that’s...
Read moreClearly everyone has their own standards for hotels and cleanliness, but I am quite shocked by the 4+ rating of the Americus. I travel 50-60 nights a year, so I spend a lot of time in hotels and this one barely earns a 2 out of 5. ||First, parking. I was told to leave my car out front for the "valet" and hand the keys to the front desk. There was no valet to be seen and when I left about 18 hours later, my car was still in front of the hotel, albeit moved back a few hundred feet. I never saw any valet employees, so I think the front desk is charged with moving vehicles and I doubt they are insured to do so. ||The hotel itself is reminiscent of a bygone era and has potential, but when I was trying to figure out how to caption this review, the term "putting lipstick on a pig," kept coming to mind.||I should have known when I got on the filthy elevator what was in store.||This hotel is an OLD building, but the online photos attempt to make it look regal and grand. It is NOT. My room (I was in 114) did not live up to the previous reviews or even come close. ||First, I booked a king room and they gave me 2 queens. The hotel had VERY few guests so I think they were trying to fill floors. ||Second, the "craftsmanship" was awful. Paint was slapped onto uneven, unaligned baseboards and there were drips everywhere. The caulking all around the baseboards was cracking. The paint on the window sills was lifting. Crown moulding had giant gaps. It was just NOT a well maintained or updated room. ||Third, the floors were absolutely FILTHY and you could see where they mopped the middle, but left dirt to accumulate along the baseboards, in the corners, and around door jambs. Grout cleaner would go a LONG WAY here. Not only was the ceramic tile in the entry and bathroom disgusting, but there were obvious stains on the carpet. There were also long, black hairs in the sink and tub as well. The room just did not feel clean.||The bathroom was like a cave, with dim LED lighting and a really loud fan. The tub was a relic and the bathroom overall was just not good. Grey tones and just depressing.||Then there is the noise. The sirens ALL night, the dump trucks in the morning, the horns, the alarms, and more. WAY TOO NOISY. ||I would NEVER stay at this hotel again and if you are expecting a clean room or a quiet night, this...
