Went to see TOOL at the PPL Center on 11/7/23. After the show, we tried to find a bar/restaurant that was open. We found one place directly across the street, but it was a dump and they couldn't wait to close. Walking back to our hotel (about 2 blocks away from PPL)- starving - we saw a door wide open with bright lights and beautiful music in the air. We found ourselves at La Cocina del Abuelo - Grandpa's Kitchen. There were a few customers inside waiting on food. The woman at the counter was sweet, kind and helpful when it came to ordering. There was a woman in the back cooking (I think it was just the two of them). We asked for our order to go (chicken quesadilla & steak tacos) and waited approximately 15 min. as everything was made to order (there were a couple customers ahead of us). Now, I am not a big fan of Mexican food, but I have to say, this was the best authentic food I have ever had! Also, please note that it was well past midnight and they were going strong with more people coming in as we left. My only regret is that I don't live closer to try and enjoy more of their menu items. Oh and they also serve breakfast (!!)- the gentleman across from us got an egg sandwich and it was huge!! It (like all the other food) was made to order and it looked delicious! I can't wait to go back.

Read moreFirst off let me start off by saying I'm for alwasy on the hunt for really good Mexican food. I'm definitely a foodie. With that said today was my first time here. My fiance, brother, and I decided to visit here after my mother told me about her first visit here a few days prior. We had 2 orders of birria and 1 order of steak taoca. Excellent. The food was delicious. The birria meat was soft tender juciy and packed with flavor. The steak tacos were very good. The meat by itself could have used a slight more salt but that's my personal preference. The toppings is what made the tacos not need any salt. I I highly recommend the eveything on it if you can. I love Horchata, any Mexican restaurant that doesn't serve horchata immediately is a turn off for me. Well they had it and it was great. I will definitely be going back and I can't recommend this place highly enough. By the way the owner is super chill and i appreciated his...
Read moreVery tasty birria! I will be back again! I had it with an extra side of rice and beans. The sauces and the complimentary chicharrones were a welcome touch. The birria were fresh, piping hot and super crunchy. We also tried the horchata and it was creamy and not too sweet. I can't wait to go back and try other items! The price for the amount is good, I had enough for lefts over for dinner. The people that work here had a little bit of a hard time understanding me, but luckily my friend was very fluent, so if you don't k own Spanish well you may have a little bit of difficulty ordering, but other than that it was great! It has a a few tables of in Door and outdoor settings. They had a special birria ramen previously and I wanted to try it, but unfortunately they did not have it at the time that I went. Oh well, I'll have to come back again when it's available! Location is great. I...
