Are we in New York City? That's what the Moxy Allentown Downtown feels like. I am a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite guest, so I know what great looks and feels like and I can confidently say that this is a great crash pad with a chic environment to match. ||You have to know what you're walking into: this is a millennial-focused, trendy option that is great for a weekend getaway with your furry loved ones. My partner and I brought our dog and couldn't have been more welcomed. Amenities are limited, but all of the basics are here, and the bar/lobby area is a great option to start or spend your evening out. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Don't go here expecting the traditional hotel experience with luxurious amenities, an abundance of space and over the top service, you simply won't get that. The Moxy Allentown doesn't pretend to be that and is priced accordingly. ||What's Wired (Highlights)|1. This is a brand new, ultra trendy hotel centered around the fun of the circus with all of the latest Moxy brand details. The furniture is high end (trust me, I googled one of the side tables, $500!) and the interior designer absolutely gets a cheers for maximizing the space with beautiful, detailed, and cohesive design. |2. Rooms have modern bathrooms with Kohler amenities and powerful shower heads with rainfall and power spray options|3. All rooms have hardwood-like floors and are quite clean |4. A popping bar is downstairs with a fun playlist and good vibes with all kinds of drinks you can imagine (although I feel their drink prices are a bit high) |5. Very solid gym with cool mirror photo opportunities and a continuation of the circus theme|6. While the rooms are small, I appreciated the ingenuity of the room features (foldable desk, pegs to hang things, foldable, wall hanging chair, suitcase storage under bed, etc) |7. Unique touches like a Tarot Card locker area, a button on the in-room phone "press here for bedtime stories", and in-room art that you can take with you made our experience special and fun |8. SUPER pet/dog friendly. You can bring your dog essentially anywhere on the property and you don't have to feel guilty. Dog fee is $50 per night which isn't terrible.|9. Each guest room floor has a "Stash" closet with extra bedding, towels, toiletries, etc., LOVE THIS so you can get what you need on your own time. |10. You get a free drink per person at check-in and there was an awesome gentleman at the Front Desk on Saturday morning (forgot to get his name) who moved us to a much better corner room. Rachel at the bar was also super friendly. |11. Very convenient location - easy walk to PPL Center and great restaurants and bars nearby. You HAVE to try Rosa Blanca if you like cuban food. So delicious, both the food and drinks, and super cute atmosphere and top-notch service. It's right across the street. ||What's Tired (Improvement Opportunities)|1. The mattresses are extremely hard/firm and for my soft-bed preference I felt they were uncomfortable. They feel more like hard camping cots than a hotel mattress. This could be easily fixed with a soft mattress topper. |2. There is no self-parking at the hotel, and Valet is only during certain hours. You have to park 3 blocks away, and the parking system which they discount the 24 hour parking to ($16) is disjointed and doesn't always scan to let you out of the city garage. There has to be a better way in 2025. |3. The rooms are intentionally small, which while charming, do get tight with more than two people. |4. Not many benefits for Bonvoy Titanium Elite members beyond a $10 food and beverage credit and 4PM checkout. ||Overall, this is a hip and fun option for staying in downtown Allentown when you don't have the energy or time to go to...
Read moreThis hotel is extremely disappointing. Stayed here for the night and it felt like being in an upscale hostel. I understand this is their first week operating but some things just can’t be fixed.
Check in was wonky because the staff was still unsure of how to do things. Fine, understandable The bar service at night was slow but it was good The room is atrocious. The bed is a cement block, the blanket is a thin sheet of paper, the window must be made of rice paper or something thinner, there is no furniture, it’s also extremely loud.
Let me elaborate further on number 3 here. The bed feels like laying on a brick with a thin pad on top. It’s the most uncomfortable thing ever, unless you like extra firm mattresses I guess? The blanket that’s provided for the bed is just a thin sheet which is not something I’d expect in a town where the temperatures reach below freezing and the insulation is as bad as it is in this place.
The window in the room is floor to ceiling however provides absolutely 0 insulation or sound barrier. I basically slept outside. It took hours to fall asleep to the sounds of the police station DIRECTLY outside my window. Honking, speeding cars, car alarms, car locking beeps, you name it and I heard it. Let’s not forget that the window does absolutely nothing to keep the cold out. I had to crank the heat to 75 in my room just so I didn’t freeze while sleeping.
The furniture thing is definitely a problem if you were planning on doing anything at this hotel. A lot of it is very tiny and hanging on your wall but looks like it belongs in a microhome. Let’s also not forget the fact that a bunch of things in the room don’t work(I’m assuming because a pre opening punch list wasn’t followed yet) like the tv, lights not being plugged in, and lightbulbs not being in the lights. Also, the shower barely has any water pressure and once you turn it off the shower drips onto the hollow metal plate covering the drain causing it to echo.
The sound is something I cannot get over. I was up until 2am trying to sleep with all of the noise from the outside then was abruptly woken up at 5:55am by what sounds like people tap dancing directly above my head. Each floor has a corresponding “R” floor which I can only imagine is housekeeping floors. So, I assume that house keeping starts works around 6am which is ridiculous that their work spaces would be right above guest rooms but they wouldn’t take into consideration extra sound insulation. It’s actually incredible how loud it is and it never stopped. You can hear the staff talking too. You can also hear everyone’s toilet flushing.
Overall, this hotel looks cool & nice but it’s really just an overpriced hostel that was made in the absolute cheapest way possible. It’s extremely uncomfortable, loud and poorly designed. I do not recommend staying here since you won’t be able to...
Read moreOn the morning hours of Saturday, October 4th, 2025, I booked a hotel room at Moxy in Allentown, Pennsylvania through Booking.com. I was in Pottstown for a wedding on the 3rd and wanted to stay somewhere closer to my sister who lives in Bethlehem. I selected a later check in time (10pm) and was relieved when the hotel sent a message back through Booking.com confirming.
My sister, her boyfriend, my partner, and I had a great Saturday. We visited a brewery, my parents popped in, and we had a great country dinner at a local pub. Around 9:30pm, we start headed towards Allentown. We found the hotel as well as parking in a nearby garage. We grab our luggage and head towards the hotel. It's Saturday night. There's a concert venue nearby. It's unseasonably hot and the windows of the hotel are wide open and it's really hard to discern where the party begins and ends. It's pretty chaotic. There's people drinking and stumbling everywhere, indoors and outdoors. It even sounds like there's a band playing in the hotel bar. I find the checkout desk, which also seems to be part of the hotel bar. The woman at the desk is very rock n' roll (leather jacket & tattoos on each finger). I expect nothing less. I wanted to stay at a place this cool.
Unfortunately, upon telling the clerk my name, she stated that the hotel had no record of me booking a room. "Maybe you spelled your name incorrectly?" I showed her my confirmation from Booking.com and the messages from earlier in the day. It did nothing for me. It was like I was showing her a blank piece of paper. I can't imagine there was a manager on staff this late in the evening, because none was offered to me upon my request. My last ditch attempt at salvaging this relationship was inquiring if there were any free rooms in the hotel that I could still book for the evening. A few taps on the keyboard and I was told, "Nope." Inside I'm livid, but I honestly couldn't care to stay in the Moxy even if they had my reservation after all. What a way to be treated. For some reason, the woman gave me a piece of paper for me to write my name and phone number. The manager was supposed to call me on Sunday, October 5th to assure me that they would confirm they did not get my reservation, so Booking.com could give me the refund. I got no such call. Can't say I'm surprised. This hotel is incompetent in every area.
My partner and I ended up staying at the Americus down the road. More classical and no complaints. It was more affordable to boot.
I'm still waiting for Booking.com to give me my refund. It's October 14th, 2025. They apparently have had trouble contacting the hotel. No one is picking up the phone....
