My husband and I really enjoyed our getaway at Cedar Crest. It was super refreshing and we particularly appreciated that it is kid-free. The two course breakfast was great every day. There was not a meal that we didn't like and the staff seemed amiable to any special dietary needs that other guests had. The coffee was also very good. We enjoyed drinking a cup after our meal in the porch rocking chairs. We stayed in the yellow two bedroom cottage up the hill from the main house. The space was nice and had things we needed in the small kitchenette. It would have been nice to have a small induction cook top or something to make simple meals there to save money (restaurants in the area were pricey). While the claw-foot tub was cool, a fabric shower curtain or additional wall magnets on the vinyl shower curtain would have been appreciated. It felt like you were wrapped in plastic wrap while showering. The water pressure was awesome though. Fresh towels daily if requested by setting out your dirty towels was nice. The couch, though vintage, was super comfortable. The porch was super nice and felt fairly private. The check in and check out process was easy. I took off a star for rooms because we were really disappointed in the lack of landscaping. We thought the garden would be lush and beautiful, but it wasn't at all. The window boxes and all containers were empty and sad. Pansies at the very least would have lasted from first frost until it gets hot. The garden area between the main house and cottage could have had some bulbs thrown in there or other early blooming perennials. I also knocked off a star for location because it's very loud with street traffic, emergency vehicles, and helicopters. Updating the windows on the side of the house next to the road would probably help with this. Mission hospital is very close by. We did like the convenience of being close to the Biltmore, but if you don't have an annual pass and only visit the grounds for a day then there are many other quiet accommodations within close proximity. All in all we greatly enjoyed our respite and think...
Read moreWe had a relaxing time at this wonderful inn.
From Sue at intake and a tour to the chef and Tiffany at breakfast and departure - each person that was involved in our stay was as professional as you'd expect an innkeeper: accommodating, kind and willing to go the extra mile.
Thank you again for the concierge assistance for some local spots!
The grounds were beautiful, there was something to see in each direction.
The Tower Room was quaint but perfect. Loved the tub and amenities within. (Full length mirror, TV, closet space and ironing setup.
The house had a real different vibe from the day to the evening. During the day it was a quiet (plenty of folks there! But not too crowded!) But bustling breakfast and midday.
Folks liked to just sit on the historic feeling veranda and just enjoy the beautiful day.
They served you a 2 course breakfast. Alternating the savory and sweet options by day. Gluten free options were acceptable.
I'll also mention: they leave out a tray of cookies throughout the day and they were awesome too!
In the evening, still with the porch sitting - but the house had a "shining-esque" vibe.
Walking through the house to the room with the old victorian styled, wood clad stairs and walls gave you a chill but in the best way.
However, sitting in front of the warm hearth at midnight with a book was divine.
We could not hear the other travelers in the rooms so it felt very private.
There was plenty to do within walking distance and even more a 5 minute drive away.
Parking was good, bring a gps getting out of there to the surrounding roads but other than that, a really worthwhile inn to visit.
*Saw a really cool black snake crossing the drive one day. No rodents were seen the whole trip - likely thanks to...
Read moreThis was a near perfect place for my girlfriend and me to spend our anniversary trip together. Being a historic mansion just outside the Biltmore Estate, we really felt like we were living in luxury even at the good price deal we got! The house is absolutely stunning and it was even nice for us to hang out in one of the many porch chairs in the spring weather. Breakfast was delicious and alternated between sweet and savory options daily. We had a cozy room on the top floor. While there were a few flights of stairs to contend with, the space felt very private, quiet, and restful.
The location is great if you’re trying to be somewhere close to Asheville’s major attractions, we were less than ten minutes from most hot spots (barely five from the Biltmore) and certainly less than twenty from almost everything we wanted to do in the city. Never had any issues with parking, though the winding roads definitely threw me off coming from Florida!
Those of you looking for a little peace and quiet though may want to consider that the Inn is a block down from a major hospital and trauma center, so if you don’t want to hear ambulance sirens, you may want to find somewhere a little further outside of town. If you are like me and live just off of a major road with lots of horns and sirens at any given hour, this probably won’t bother you much.
All in all the Cedar Crest Inn was a major factor in making our first time in Asheville so amazing. It is not often that the resort or accommodations are one of your favorite parts of a trip, but the experience here made our trip magical, thematic, comfortable, and an all-around delight. I look forward to staying here the next time we...
