I don't even care that the hotel is under construction and the entrance is a bit awkward in the back - this is the best hotel experience I've had in Austin so far. Now let's be clear - I stay in this class of hotel almost exclusively when I travel, as it's what my company springs for. I've stayed in around a half dozen different properties around north Austin in the past few years as work brings me here roughly once a quarter. For a while I preferred a specific Residence Inn nearby as it was a decent hotel, and convenient, but I decided to switch it up a few trips ago and have been trying some others. A colleague recommended I try Hyatt, and I am glad I did! When I first walked in, I was met by a wonderful front desk agent, Jade. She is hands down the friendliest, loveliest person who has checked me into a hotel literally in years that I have interacted with. I travel frequently for work and have noticed a steady decline in the quality of people filling these roles. Jade truly is a precious gem, and I hope that her employers recognize and reward this. After a pleasant check-in with Jade, I went up to my room (the "Penthouse suite" as she quipped, to which I chuckled), which I found to be honestly the cleanest hotel room I've experienced, also in years. Up until this point I have always been able to find at least one thing that sort of grossed me out a little bit about a hotel room. A hair in the sheets, a dirty, unattended corner in a bathroom, stains on the mirror, something. In this room - nothing! As spotless as a 3 star hotel room could be!
On my first morning, I head down for breakfast, and enter the temporary dining room. Average hotel breakfast, nothing special - but who I assume was the manager and some of the staff are closely attending the breakfast service. All friendly, quick to respond to any guest need, and clear your plates as you rise to leave, all above and beyond what I would expect from a hotel of this class. All a pleasant and unexpected surprise. Oh and let's not forget they have a nice selection of teas - about 6 varieties -perhaps not appreciated by many, but certainly is a plus for someone that prefers green and herbal tea over coffee!
Sure, the lobby is under construction, it smells like paint in the stairwell, minor annoyances to me. The things that matter - the staff's attitude and attentiveness, the cleanliness of the rooms, the overall "feel" of the place -- all done well. It seems an actual hotelier runs this place, which is sadly not the norm in my experience. Bravo, Hyatt. You've won a customer. I hope my experience is as good as this as I try your other properties in my...
Read moreI was in Austin for a work trip and booked Hyatt for 8 days( a really long period). The check in was good and we were assigned the room we requested/booked for. When I entered the room(ground floor) I realized the pool was right outside and next to the only single window in the entire room. I couldn’t open the curtains for the entire first day after check in because of lots of people in and around the pool. I kindly requested the front desk if I can get another room upstairs or elsewhere where I can open the curtains and window for the sunlight and fresh air. The sudden and most obvious response I get was no rooms are available and they are completely booked, understandable since it was the weekend and like me many others might have fooled themselves thinking it’s “THE HYATT”- know for hospitality and customer satisfactory experience, obviously I realized I was completely wrong. My request to change the room was genuinely reasonable since my stay was for such a long period of time( which was the main criteria for them to consider, ofcourse they chose to ignore the fact) I was unable to open the screen anytime of the day plus lots of noise around. They ignorantly told me that if anything opens up they’ll let me know. The very next day when asked agian, some manager( very very very rude, don’t deserve to be in the hospitality industry) comes running and says NO CHANGE OF ROOM, HOW MANY TIMES SHOULD WE TELL THAT? I was just amazed by the way and audacity she spoke with, another member came in and promised to get our rooms changed after two days. Guess what, she did call saying the notes indicate we asked for the room change and it’s ready but ( icing on the cake) it has two separate beds, WOW JUST WOW. I was currently in a king size room and they asked to move to a room with separate beds. Nonetheless I argued saying why can’t I get the same room since I paid for it and she says and I quote “ UNTIL I BUILD ANOTHER FOUR EXTRA KING SIZE ROOMS, WE DONT HAVE ANY AVAILABLE “. I just cut the call saying I’ll keep whatever I have been given as of now. The ultimate point was they were not at all ready to change the room ignoring various facts and genuine problems being in the hospitality industry, they least they could do was being polite and kind and they chose the other side. I would never ever come back to this hotel with mean workers or wouldn’t recommend my family and friends to stay at...
Read moreapparently new management now decided to cut services and staff and raise prices. Although the stay at this Hyatt place was for $239 a night, you no longer get the standard toiletries you are accustomed to at a Hyatt. Oh and forget about getting fresh clean sheets. they apparently do not change the sheets often and stains are on them. they don't even bother making the bed well over. Mine was hastily put back together. Someone is trying to make their annual bonus by cutting services and costs. I have news for them. they can cut costs 100% just don't provide any services.
they apparently remodeled the room I was in for the worse. Got rid of the L shaped nice big couch to a small one so the room look like an empty apartment. the tub is gone and you get a stand up shower with partial door so you can not reach to start the shower and adjust the water temperature before you get in. So you get cold water and freeze or get burring water and wet for a while till you get it right standing wet in a shower stall wet all over for a couple of minutes since they have a very weak shower head that does not reach beyond the first third of the shower area which makes me now wonder how do they ever clean the rest of the shower area .. gross.... the water pressure is pathetic with the energy saver heads you can not get the soap cleaned up.
I had to go down and ask for lotion and tooth paste. The bed sheets got reused again instead of getting fresh sheets. The bed was hastily put together. and many items were not even picked up to its correct place and left on the floor. Needless to say, I shifted my travel stays to the Hyatt from the Marriot because of a couple of gran Hyatt superior service, amenities and newer properties. I think I am letting my diamond level point go away and search for hopefully cleaner chain that is at least not so obvious that they are so cheap in service and high in price. next week stay in LA is definitely now switched to the JW Marriott form the Gran Hyatt Century Plaza. Hope the management who decided to get a fat bonus this year by cutting corners and costs services enjoy their...
