In early January the night before the storms hit, we had to cut our vacation short to head back to Illinois and had to take a different and unfamiliar route, which isnât the issue, we spent hours getting here from Dallas after multiple stops and bad traffic to get here at around 9pm. We were so glad to finally be able to get to the hotel to sleep only to be met by no one at the counter, and it was like that for about 15 minutes after even calling the phone to get someoneâs attention, did I start looking around for someone and looking came rushing past me in an outfit that doesnât look like a workerâs uniform, no name tag, and keys swinging and all I got was a quick side eye even though I obviously was looking for a worker to check in. I then asked âHey do you work here?â She said yeah and I started to ask for help and before I could even explain myself she cuts me off and in very rude attitude says âYeah I had an emergency to deal with.â And kept walking away from me without saying anything, any apology or anything. Then she starts getting to the computer and after we had explained we are very tired and had been waiting, she again very rudely says âSorry I tried telling him that I canât fix this.â Iâm assuming referring to another guest, but we tried explaining further how she canât be rude like this, she said quote for quote âUnderstanding goes a long way.â Very hypocritical as she didnât even make any effort to understand us despite us being very very kind to begin with unlike her. It is very unusual for me to leave reviews or say anything to stand up for myself but I said âYeah so does attitude.â Referring to attitude going a long way as we treated her with utmost respect despite being tired and stressed by the storm and she did not reciprocate that. I started to get angry and I walked out as my mother, whose name was under the reservation canceled immediately after how she treated us. That was the only thing that went smoothly in the 20-25 minutes we were there as she didnât say anything else. I returned to get her name but before I said anything I saw a sign that said something along the lines of âGeneral Manager on dutyâ and I believe the first name was Niki. The one who âhelpedâ us said she was the only one working and tried deflecting the issue and I believe taking her anger out on us, so I believe this is the General Manager. Highly unprofessional either way whether it was or no but I do not recommend booking here as I saw a review that said they had bed bugs and leaks in rooms. So Niki, if you see this thank for for saving us that trouble despite treating us poorly. Money has been refunded as of now and I do not recommend...
Read moreEarlier this month my mother and I were driving down from Chicago to Dallas in a rental moving truck, when one of the tires blew with such catastrophic force that it smashed the exhaust pipe shut and nearly sent us into a ditch. We had already been driving about 8 hours at that point, since early morning. I was wearing grubby clothes since we were just stuck in the truck driving for the day, and we didn't expect this at all. While we had some water and snacks, being stranded in an old truck at high noon in 95° weather on the side of the road in an unfamiliar state was... not great. Not to mention, we couldn't get too far off the road because of the tire's condition - so staying in the truck was not a safe option. Staying outside with no shelter was also not an option, given the high heat and humidity.
Thankfully, all of this happened on the highway just in front of the Blytheville Hampton Inn. A bit embarrassed, I asked the front desk if my Mom and I could sit in their air conditioned lobby just to get out of the sun for a bit.
Not only were we welcomed, but we were given incredible hospitality for the five freaking hours it took for the rental company to call someone out to get the tire changed. They offered to drive us somewhere for lunch, gave us water and offered soda as well, and allowed us to sit and watch TV in their breakfast nook to pass the time. We were able to charge our phones and keep an eye on the truck.
The staff didn't have to do or allow any of that. They could have told us to stand there, or sit in the front area or just outside. In our helpless moment, the kindness of these strangers was so, so appreciated. Especially as that helpless moment dragged on to five hours, they checked in on us, made sure we were hydrated, and asked about our progress. I can't imagine the two of us being out there for so long in the heat.
Although for a bit I thought we would end up booking a room to stay the night because the repair was taking so dang long, we finally got fixed up and decided to just continue the trek and get it over with. I didn't get a chance to thank each of the staff that helped us, but this experience made me understand and value the Hampton/Hilton brand and level of hospitality. If you're reading this, please know how much we appreciated your kindness to two strangers on the side...
