The first time I stayed here back in April it was such a nice experience that I was excited to stay here again during my business trip this time around. Unfortunately, things have changed and not in a good way.
First, even though the room was booked with a company card they still needed my card at checkin for any "incidentals". Ok, no problem at all. They needed to do that the last time as well. However, this time they needed to place a $50 per night insurance hold on my card as well as a $20 facility fee that is non-refundable. Why could you not just add that to the card that was used to pay for the room? Now I have to go through the process of being reimbursed the $40 fee that was charged to my card.
Next, I go upstairs to my room and as I am getting ready to go inside I notice someone following me and she asks which room am I going to so I tell her. She then says just a moment. By now I am getting a little irritated because I just landed and went straight to the hotel to relax for a minute but now I am being held up. Come to find out the is the housekeeping manager and heard the front desk give me a room that she knew was not yet cleaned. Instead of saying something while we were downstairs, she pretty much follows me to the room and wanted to open the door first to look inside. Then she calls downstairs to let them know so that they can assign me to a different room. She then says that the person at the front desk was new and so on and so forth.
Now I finally get inside of a room and was just not impressed which was surprising considering the room I was in during my first stay here. There were dirty linens in the bathroom, the shower was stand up only with a rusted fold down sitting seat, the toilet did not properly flush and was running, and just not what I was expecting.
I was only scheduled to be there for two nights so I sucked it up. I decided to go down to the hotel restaurant Casa Cana and was pretty much ignored by the bartender when I sat at the bar. I sat for at least 10 minutes before he was able to find the time to see what I wanted. I asked about a certain food item on the menu and he claimed that the way it was listed is the way it would be so I said ok, no worries on the food. But the female customer sitting a couple of chairs down from me that he constantly checked on was able to alter her order to her liking. I saw what was going on here and decided to spend my money elsewhere.
The rooms are overpriced and much higher compared to when I was there 3 months ago. My Lyft driver told me that it was formerly a Days Inn and you can honestly tell. Yes the painting and decorations are more modern and up to date but there is work to be done to update this hotel beyond a name and color scheme.
I tried to purchase water from the vending machines but of course, it was sold out. Thankfully though the new front desk hostess was gracious enough to give me a bottle from the back room when I went down to ask where can I purchase bottled water. She was very kind and I appreciate her!
Needless to say, I let our office manager know of my experience since the manager at the hotel is anxious to earn our business as our hotel of choice when we travel int town. I do not plan to stay here again during my next...
Read moreAffordable , Comfortable , Great stay. I recently stayed here two nights while on a work trip. Not only was this the most reasonabley priced hotel in the area they also have free parking for one car per reservation which is a blessing for the Boston area. I stayed in the King Suite which was luckily an unexpected upgrade. Staff were extremely helpful and attentive. Especially Brittany. You get a $10 coupon to Casa Cana the cuban restaurant/bar located in the hotel when you for go room service. And let me say the food there was amazing and my last day there I had a wonderful delicious breakfast. The coupon was greater to have but the menu prices were extremely affordable for the large plate I recieved. The hotel during the week days Mon- Friday offer a continental breakfast and a social hour with cocktails free . Each room features a local artists work of which you will be able to learn about when your in your room via a booklet on the art and artists. The location is great if your specifically there to be in the brookline area. A T stop and public transportation is in walking distance and so are other restaurants and coffee shop. But why bother when drinks, breakfast and dinner is so reasonable at Casa Cana ! My only negatives which by no means negatively impact my rating but I felt that the fitted sheet on my bed were worn, not enough over head lighting for such a large room. One had to turn on lots of lamps via hand. Also there is no coffee maker in the room or microwave. Free coffee and tea machine is located in the lounge which if you are like me and love a warm beverage at all hours of the day it's a bit inconvenient to have to walk down to the lobby every time. There is a small mini fridge but no microwave. And for some odd reason for such a large suit only one trash can was in the room which was located in the bathroom. There isnt much of a view as everything around the hotel is streets and small buildings so there's not much a view and there are only 5 floors to the hotel. The bed and bedding were all comfortable but having stayed at many hotels I'd say it wasnt the comfier beds I've been on but it's a good firm and comfortable rest. Cleanliness of the room was great including the bathroom and tub. Nice clean towels but towels were on the cheaper end certainly not at all soft but serves the purpose. The tub/shower didnt have much space for toiletries but the small shelf in the shower served as a useful spot for a soap bar but the lack of shelving may be disappointing for those of you like me with lots of shower products. If the few negatives didnt exist I'd say this hotel would be a five star hotel or boutique hotel quality rival. I highly recommend this spot for couples and for business if your looking for a quick over night stay or a nice weekend getaway over night spot. 10 out of 10...
Read moreExcellent hotel with wonderful staff! Stayed there during Boston Calling Music Festival and the location made it easy to move between the festivities and a number of local restaurants.
The hotel is an eye-catcher, for sure. As soon as you walk into the lobby you know you're somewhere special as a room-sized pop-art painting extends its way across the floor, up the wall, and over the elevators. To your left is the extraordinarily friendly front desk and to your right there will likely be some attractive people playing ping pong. The layout is spread across two separate buildings, and many rooms sport scenic views of industrial buildings. The good news is, they've compensated for this with some of the most eye-catching interior design I've ever seen in a hotel room. Huge murals are splashed above the beds, more art adorns each wall, there's stylish modern chairs in the corner, even the bathroom door is a chic frosted glass one that slides on a rail. The bed itself was immensely comfy. I woke up each day feeling unusually well - absent were my usual aches and pains, thanks to the high quality of the mattress and pillows. The padded headboard was an extra bonus for sitting comfortably to wind down with some TV in bed.
As some have noted, this hotel is a brand new conversion and is very much still a work in progress. Something very elaborate and fancy-looking is being constructed between the two buildings so there's a lot of resultant construction material here and there, and even our bathroom sported some fresh sawdust. We didn't see this as a negative, though - it's a transforming building in a transforming neighborhood. And while the building is still coming to life, the essentials are already very much in place. The front desk staff was extremely helpful, the cleaning staff did an excellent job with the room each day, and when we had questions about certain things in the room they were addressed immediately and effectively. Also, an additional luxury - the soap/shampoo/body wash was top notch. Fancy European stuff. You finished each shower feeling expensive.
Really, the only amenities missing were a microwave and refrigerator, but it's possible that because the hotel is so new they simply haven't been added to the rooms yet. But be aware that at least as of now, these are not available.
I booked this hotel because of the location and because it was the only one offering rooms the day of Harvard commencement at a reasonable price. But they've got a regular customer out of me, now - this will absolutely be my choice of hotel for next year's Boston Calling. Highly...
