When I first came to Fitness and Fuel, I was skeptical as I always am when investing in something like personal training. When I have had personal training before, I’ve often found it expensive, I haven’t seen the results I was hoping for.
The Fitness and Fuel experience couldn’t be more different (in a good way) from the above. Working out at Fitness and Fuel has been life changing for me in a good way.
First, Jack is incredibly thorough and skilled. The first session with Jack is an interview and fitness assessment that covers all areas of your fitness (and related) history; I was amazed at the level of thoroughness. He is a physical therapist as well as a trainer, and so he is extremely attuned to past injuries and injury prevention.
Second, I really appreciate how Jack and his amazing team help to individualize your program, and tailor your workout to your goals. Jack has helped me both with my workouts at the gym but also for programming workouts in between, and tailors the "in between" workouts to the fitness equipment available to me at home. Also, with respect to goals, I wanted to increase general fitness and become stronger. I have always played sports and done individual fitness (strength, running, cycling, swimming, etc), but since starting to work out at FF I am the fittest I have ever been.
Third, Jack and his team do a great job tailoring the workouts and the gym at large to a diverse audience. Each class has an array of prior weight training experience, men and women, and a wide range of ages including people as old as their 70s-80s. The environment is incredibly inclusive, welcoming, and fun, and there is great camaraderie among those training despite having different experience, goals, and programs.
Overall, training at FF has been incredibly positive for me and I recommend it to anyone who is considering it.
Update: Because of the training results from above, I had to get my clothes tailored / get some new clothes partway through CY 2023. It's now early 2024 and I am needing to get them tailored again.

Above all, they have transformed my fitness journey into a joyful and community-oriented experience. This was a monumental shift from my previous approach of trying to "coach" myself into going to the gym, on a run/ride or to a one-size-fits-all class. My only regret is that I did not find F & F sooner!
The tailored aspect of the plans is one of the highest value-adds for me. Without a background in training and fitness, all I had before joining F&F were my preferences and (often incorrect!) beliefs about what I needed from a fitness POV and how to achieve it. F&F trainers bring expertise, experience, encouragement and the 1:1 attention needed to tailor and adapt dynamic fitness plans. These plans have helped me to grow stronger, faster and move better without being overwhelming. The progress I have achieved, even in the face of persistent injury, has been amazing, and far exceeded my expectations of the progress I could make. I also did not expect to look forward to sessions as much as I do (which turns out to be one of the magic ingredients in their approach!).
F&F trainers support each client's progress towards their individualized goals (which you can define yourself!) and provide support that keep you accountable and on track with these without being overwhelming. The trainers tailor personalized plans to make sure that each session makes impact for you in the short and long term. They help you visualize the growth you are making and adjust as needed (and in the moment) to meet you where you are when you come on a particular day.

Read moreI've been training with Jack and the team at Fitness & Fuel for over a year now. I initially approached Jack with the goal of losing weight and finding consistency in my strength training routine. One year later, I've reached my weight loss goals while simultaneously matching strength PRs that were achieved years ago when I was much heavier and that I never believed I would get to again without being at an unhealthy weight.
The monthly programs that Jack creates are extremely thoughtful and personalized. Each month's program cohesively complements each other month making it clear that Jack's training programs are strategically planned well beyond their four week durations. Jack also consistently asks for feedback on his programs and effectively weaves that feedback into his program creation each month. The diversity of exercises included in the programs has contributed significantly to helping me find consistency in my workouts. I tend to find very static programs monotonous so Jack's consistent inclusion of new lifts and movements keeps me focused and interested in completing each program.
In the weight room, Jack and his team find a great balance between intensity and instruction. Workouts are consistently fast paced, but, when needed, Jack effectively slows things down to work specifically on an exercise or technique - my form across almost all exercises has improved significantly since starting. I've had a chance to work with many personal trainers, none have been as effective as the team at Fitness & Fuel at making semi-private training sessions feel like full-private training sessions. Jack's ability to balance multiple clients in a semi-private setting and provide helpful, individualized feedback is second to none.
