I stayed at this hotel because I was speaking at a conference. I did not have a good experience for a very specific reason, so first I'll review the features and aspects of my stay that apply to most guests. If you are a nursing or pumping mother, please read through to the end.
The check-in process was smooth and quick, with professional staff. The lobby is attractive with comfortable seating. My room was clean with a kitchenette. I'd knock a star off if this was a good review because the kitchenette is in the bathroom (who stores food in the bathroom??) and the refrigerators have no freezer compartment. My floor was being painted, which was inconvenient but not a major problem. The painting and maintenance/cleaning staff were all extremely polite and professional - great people!
The conference room was clean, but a bit dingy. The lunch served was disappointing (a taco bar, but they were not great tacos.) Set-up for lunch was slow and drinks and silverware arrived after food. They ran out of sodas halfway through the day and never replaced them. I have organized similar events at other hotels and have not had these issues. For most people, I'd give this 3 stars.
Now to my major issue: I'm a new mom. This was my first trip away from my baby. I brought a cooler with freezer packs and my pump with storage bags so I could bring milk back to my baby. The day of the conference, I went to the desk staff early and asked if they had anywhere I could pump. At the meetings I've organized, the hotels have always offered an empty guest or conference room or sometimes even a manager's office for pumping moms. They've done this without complaint or issue. This hotel offered to let me check-out late at 1:00 or 2:00p. I explained that I was speaking at 3:00p and would need to pump after (sometime between 4p and 6p.) The desk staffer said "But we can only hold the room until 2 at the latest..." then made a non-committal noise. I said "Oh, well thanks for holding it that far. I guess I'll have to figure something out for this afternoon...?" She smiled brightly and said "Ok!! Great!!" as though the problem were solved.
I ended up pumping in the room until around noon, when I was locked out and had to cut into my conference attendance time to go get checked back in. Staff were very nice for this interaction - it was a male desk staffer who helped me and he was great. After my talk, I searched throughout the hotel for a place to pump but could find nowhere secluded. I ended up pumping in the hallway outside the conference room where I'd just lectured. Many of my colleagues were leaving and catching up in the hallway. Setting up and using my pump in front of them was not the highlight of my professional career. Because the hotel had no freezer available to me for my cooler bag/packs, I had to refrigerate my cooler bag and hope for the best. It didn't work. By the time my flight touched down in Detroit, my milk had all warmed up. Ten bottles for my baby, thrown in the garbage. At least I was able to pump and keep up my supply for my return. The TSA agents at MSP were extremely polite and friendly, which I note only to point out that this hotel doesn't even meet TSA levels of helpfulness. In an industry based on hospitality, that is pretty sad.
In summary, this is an ok hotel. It's a budget type place, but the food is just ok, so I'd pass unless the price or location are great for you. If you're a nursing or pumping mom, don't expect any support. Most hotel staff go above and beyond for their guests, but this one couldn't even find me a secluded space...
Read moreI want to start this off by saying I have never written a review online, for anything, anywhere in my entire life but I feel compelled to write this after the complete lack of respect we had at our wedding reception at Best Western Premier Nicollet Inn. We choose this location and we could not have regretted our decision more. Upon check in, we quickly realized that the hotel had double booked our reception night with a Fergus Falls hockey team that was 30+ members strong. We shared bathrooms, could see each other, and were even within talking distance the entire evening. On top of this, Best Western employed a plain clothed security guard from a third-party vendor (not associated with Best Western) by the name of Tom, who single handedly was able to play judge, jury, and executioner of our wedding reception. Eventually, at around 10pm, the rowdy Fergus Falls hockey attempted to crash our reception and the groom and bride’s father then had to remove the hockey team themselves, and had to remind Tom to do his job of keeping other members of the hotel out. Tom became irate; bullying the wedding party, threatening to call the cops and kick out the bride and groom. It was at this point that the bartender, Bethany, started to cut off other members of the bride and grooms’ family, essentially cutting the entire reception off 3 hours early. No managers, no assistant managers, nobody we could talk to other than Tom and Bethany. We felt so trapped and helpless in this situation and it was truly heartbreaking. Upon speaking with Michael Goodman, the GM, he managed to only speak with Tom and Bethany, and didn’t reach out to any of the party members. We were not only disrespected by the security guard, but also management. We are disappointed that we will never get this happy moment back, and would not recommend this...
Read moreI usually stay here whenever I’ve got surgery at Ridges Surgery Center. The staff is friendly but I had a few problems this time. Firstly, since I’m having surgery, I always request a roll in bathroom with wheelchair access for showering. When I checked in however, I was given a room with a bathtub and a microwave and small refrigerator which were set up in the bathroom, yes in the bathroom. I immediately called front desk to ask for the wheelchair accessible bathroom, they moved me to the very last room all the way down the corridor. After going back to the lobby with all my luggage, I got the key card and walked all the way to the new room, which was all the way down to the end only to discover yet another bathtub without wheel chair access, when I called front desk to notify them, I was told that there is only one other room with wheelchair access which is currently occupied, however for an up charge, they could get me the suit. I was very disappointed and upset but they somehow managed to get me into the wheelchair access room the night before my surgery. I was very thankful, when we got to the wheelchair access a room, the alarm clock radio wires were cut, the refrigerator was not working and we had to wait 2 hours for a TV remote which was never programmed and as a result, served no purpose to us. Additionally though I had a privacy sign on the door, the cleaner saw it fit to knock on our door until I woke up. The day after my surgery while I was very sedated and inappropriately dressed, housekeeping attempted to come into my room without even knocking first, startled, I jumped out of sleep hurting my stitches. The do not offer any breakfast and the restaurant is only open for dinner Monday to Saturday. I will continue to stay here, but only when I...
