Make sure to have an alternative plan
I had read all the lovely reviews as I was planning for our trip to Canton and the First Monday festivities. Knowing that things get booked in the area I made reservations in August for March visit. I had great customer service when I called, and promptly got an email confirmation. So we went about planning our trip from Wisconsin.
On February 13 I get a call from Leslie at Mill Creek telling me they were cancelling our reservation and to call if I had questions-well yes I had questions. When I called I got Leslie who informed me that they were paving the roads in the area where our reservation was and she would need to cancel. Ok, I get natural disasters, but I don't think road paving falls in that category. She explained that the crews were running behind and they would not be finished by our arrival. Here is a management 101 lesson Leslie-construction always runs behind-plan for it!
So, when I asked Leslie about other campground options in the area she seemed surprised by my question. Did you look at my reservation? I am from Wisconsin I will need to make alternate plans. So she spit out a couple of options and let me know she would refund my deposit and put me at the top of the waiting list. Here is another management 101 lesson Leslie-offer service recovery. Perhaps she could have called to see if there were any openings at any other campgrounds in the area and link me. Well guess what? It is First Monday Trade days and they are booked.
Then about 15 minutes after I get a voicemail from Leslie offering a discount on a cottage. Did I mention we were coming in our camper? So, since I was busy at work I asked my husband to call her back. He left a message for her to call him. Apparently she was in a meeting. Before 5:00 he called back since he did not receive a return call. Guess what? She was gone for the day and no other managers were available. Management 101 lesson-return your messages before you leave for the day.
So, needless to say my vacation is not ruined, but is off from what we planned thanks to the added stress from Mill Creek and Leslie. Sorry I won't be able to enjoy your lovely grounds and spa, since I will never stay here based on your horrid customer service.
Please save the condescending "management" response for someone else and spend some time doing some management training. Bless your hearts...
Read moreWe had been to this RV park before Covid and had a wonderful experience. Last November as the virus was subsiding, we decided to go for their “Romance Package” fo our 16th anniversary. That was a BIG mistake! We got checked in and found our site way down in the broken roads and gravel in the back of the park. The trees were not trimmed for motor homes and they knew what we had. The pad was flat but not nearly as nice as the all concrete pads and roads in the front 1/3 of the park. We had a full time fifth wheel next us that was not very well kept. With the Romance Package, guests are suppose to get a dozen red roses and bottle of champagne but no one ever came after check in to bring ours. The next morning, I waited until 9 am and went to the office and they had a deer in the headlights look! The lady did not really know what I was talking about and had paid $50 extra for. Later back at my unit, they called and said the flowers had JUST arrived but I told them to keep them since the surprise was blown for our anniversary. They used to do vouchers to the Four Winds Steakhouse but do not do that anymore. We made our own reservations and had a wonderful meal! The day before we left, I went to check our statement and they had not taken the cost of the Romance Package off. I called the manager and she finally processed my refund for the package I did not ever get! The manager was very rude and condescending! I asked what people had to do to stay where we had before in years past and was told those sites were reserved for long term, a month or over, or other long term guests! People staying for just a few days are directed towards the gravel pit area! The ambience and pleasant attitude of this place a couple of years ago has gone by the wayside unfortunately! Also they advertise their numerous activities but things like the paddle boat on the lake require RENTAL of a life jacket! If you are visiting Canton, Texas for a few days, find another rv park in the area and don’t waste your money on the...
Read moreThis place offers lots of extras for those staying during First Monday weekend. We go to First Monday often and I have always wanted to stay here but never would because it is so much more expensive than a hotel. However, our 20 year old son decided to go with us so I splurged and booked a cabin at Mill Creek Ranch. While the resort itself is very nice, the rooms are extremely small. It is basically a "tiny house." My son is 6'4" and could not stand up in the shower. While, those things are tolerable, what is not are the beds. The bedroom has a Queen size bed that makes a horrible noise when you sit down on it or turn over. We did not get much sleep for the 3 nights that we stayed. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and we came back with sore backs and necks. It is by far the worst bed I have ever slept on. The loft is a nice addition for kids, however it is for small kids only. My son was unable to sleep on the mattress in the loft because it also made noise every time he moved or turned over. He actually moved to the couch in the middle of the night because it was so uncomfortable. In addition to the bed problem, you are not allowed to park near your cabin so you must either walk or ask for a ride on the golf cart. We usually walked except for when we were checking out. I told the front desk that I needed a cart for 3 people and luggage. They showed up with 2 drivers on the cart, which left room for 2 of us to ride. My son and husband ended up walking since they clearly didn't listen to my request when I called the front desk. While this place is a great idea in theory, it is not a great place to stay. They go the extra mile for you by supplying large decks, beautiful scenery, full size appliances and a grill, but they furnish the cabin with a cheap mattress on which it is impossible to get a good night's rest. We will not be...
