My partner and I found this spot on the way to Beavers Bend, OK. Now we’re best friends with the pitmaster, John, and his right hand lady, his wife, Virginia.
They’re a small stand, so they don’t have a million and one menu items like some BBQ places, but what they have they do WELL. The meat is out of this world good seasoned with John’s own blend of spices that you can actually buy and use at home! The MASSIVE baked potatoes with tender brisket, butter, and cheese are the stuff dreams are made of. Their coleslaw is creamy, made from scratch and gives you a little zing with the addition of just enough jalapeño. The beans are WOW, and I don’t even LIKE beans! But theirs, I’d gladly eat all day. John’s a mad scientist of the pit and you never know when they’ll have tasty limited time offerings like chicken lollipops! Now, let’s talk about their Nana’s banana pudding. Its base is a creamy custard that Jell-o pudding only wishes it could be that no wimpy, dry vanilla wafer could stand up to, so theirs has LORNA DOONES. Freaking LORNA DOONES. If you live anywhere in East Texas, or anywhere on the planet, for that matter, get your butt to BBQ and a Prayer at 7464 TX-19, Edgewood, Texas 75117, and tell John and Virginia that Sky and...
Read moreThe owner's wife had a very negative attitude and would make off putting comments. I had to deal with her 2 times and it was the same each time so I don't go back. Reply to your response: It appears that you put your business before God and His principles by attacking someone that is being honest and giving you constructive criticism so that you can address it. First of all, don't go around calling yourself a Christian if you're going to call people a liar that are telling the God's honest truth. Secondly, you're almost never in the trailer when your wife is (because you're nomally outside far away from her) so you can't say that. Maybe she chooses to be that way when you're not right there. I don't know. All I know is that she was disrespectful and I won't give my money to a business that disrespects me. And it appears that any constructive criticism is met with you trying to say that it's the competition. I don't have a bbq business. Think about it, if I did, and was trying to sabotage you, then I would have put your food down which I did not. You need to apologize to your Lord for calling someone a liar that is just giving their...

John's BBQ And A Prayer is true hidden gem nestled in Edgewood, TX off of TX 19. If you're driving thru or you're a local, do yourself a favor and pickup some brisket and beans. John's brisket has a masterful smokey blend of live oak and mesquite that creates a devine flavor, which is so outstanding that adding barbecue sauce would only take away from the splendor of the smoke and meat. Pair that with John's BBQ beans, which contain chunks of brisket as well as rich and complex flavors from his personal seasoning, further set against the texture of perfectly boiled pinto beans, and it will surely make you a believer in BBQ And A Prayer! John Borgstedt also manufacturers custom barbecue trailers designed for any need! John has clearly found his calling and it's blessed...
