Honest review:
The staff and breakfast (waffle bar, in particular) are great. The front desk was responsive and friendly.
Plain and simple: it felt like our room was the room where the grab parts/pieces from to fix other rooms. Many things were broken or dirty. The condition of our room was not what we were expecting and it left a lasting impression on our trip. We’ll forever remember the fun times we had during the day exploring the area and “the hotel we stayed at.”
Our main issue was with our bath tub, it didn’t drain properly. We had showers with ankle deep water and it left us feeling unclean after a shower. We did request to have it fixed, and they did come to address it twice. The first time to replace the drain and the second time to use Liquid Plumber - we thought it was fixed, but the issue still persisted. We just gave up on it after a few days.
Another issue was with our toilet, it wouldn’t flush half the time so we had to lift the top up to realign the flange to help the water fill back up. Kind of annoying, but we dealt with it.
Next issue, I had just discovered, was this burnt out chair that they had placed a cover on (pictured). The ONLY reason I pulled the cover off was because my hand got stabbed by a really sharp piece of metal that turned out to be a staple that was partially ripped out and sticking out through the chair cover. I removed the cover to shove the staple back in and saw this giant burnt out portion of the chair! My toddler had been sitting on this chair during our stay and I’m glad it was me who got jabbed by the staple and not him.
Lastly, I wasn’t a fan of the exposed electrical underneath the dishwasher. It’s a hazard!(pictured, as well). This was discovered because my kids were playing with some toys and it just happened to roll right in front of it, thankfully, not under and inside where the exposed electrical is.
The hotel is under renovation and I hope other rooms don’t have these problems. The hotel is definitely dated but one of the few that can accommodate a family of 5 for the dates we had set for vacation. It may have just been our bad luck to have picked this room and even though the staff here are great, sadly, I don’t think I can choose this place again due to the conditions of the...
Read moreWe were getting our roof replaced so we decided to spare our two skittish cats from the excessive noise and instead stay at this hotel for a couple of days. This is a fairly decent hotel overall with a nice presentation, and I was pleased to find a hotel with suites that would accept pets/cats. However, after checking in and parking my car on the side of the hotel, I later noticed that an SUV was parked right on top of me, so close that I couldn't imagine how the driver was able to get out of the car without hitting mine. Sure enough, the next morning, the SUV was gone and there was a large scratch on my passenger side door. I immediately reported it to the front desk and was told that the manager would contact me right away, which they did saying that they'd look at the camera footage for me (there was a camera literally right where I was parked). Well, from there, crickets... After not hearing back, I went down again to the front desk and was told the manager was still looking into it (I never actually saw or met the manager, btw; they were always "missing"). Still, no phone call, info, etc. When I checked out of the hotel at the end of my stay, I asked yet again and was told that they'd be calling me. Well, they didn't, not even to say they lost the footage or didn't see anything incriminating, etc. Upon checking out, I noticed that the parking spaces at the front of the hotel (where the front lobby entrance is) are larger and more normal sized, while the rest of the parking is filled with spots that are literally abnormally small. My advice is that if you stay here, park in the front :) Also, upon getting home, both of my cats seemed to be scratching quite a bit and the assumption is that they picked up fleas from the room. This kind of makes sense since we checked out later than normal and someone was checking in to the room within 2-3 hours which clearly is not enough time to adequately clean and disinfect a room with animals. Obviously, if I could do it again, I wouldn't stay here since it's going to end up costing me hundreds of dollars more in the end, not to mention discomfort to my cats, which ironically was what I was trying to avoid in the...
Read moreWe spent seven weeks at the Homewood Suites in Carlsbad, California. On the morning of December 18th, 2018, I awoke and found 10 to 12 red bites on my back and shoulders. Uncomfortable and concerned, I went to my doctor who determined that the bites were from bed bugs. After my visit to the doctor, I offered medical proof of the bed bug bites to the hotel. The hotel staff was less than sympathetic to our plight, simply offering to move us to another room and to wash our clothes. I was uncomfortable with washing my delicate clothing in hot water to rid the bed bugs. Upset by the meager offer, which likely would cause damage to my personal property, combined with advice from my doctor, we decided to move hotels. Despite leaving we still believed that the hotel should compensate us for the damage to our personal property (clothing, suitcases, and medical co-pays). We once again reached out to management, who chose to ignore our concerns. Realizing that our issues were not properly being addressed, we decided to contact the regional manager through email. Once again, we are disappointed by the hotel’s response. Instead of offering compensation for damage to our property, the regional manager chose to offer evidence of remediation, as though he was mounting a defense for a court case. The hotel’s response to my valid and substantiated medical claims of bed bites was, “It possible that you came in contact with a bug somewhere in your daily life as there have been reports of bed bugs biting people in movie theaters, airplanes, taxi cabs, doctor’s offices, and any other are were people or animals dwell.” In many ways I feel like they are calling me a liar. We lived in this hotel for seven weeks out of necessity. This was not a vacation for us. We did not spend days running to tourist attractions. We have suffered enough trauma as a result of displacement from our home. Why would we make up the bed bug incident?
It is unfortunate that instead of putting guests need first, Homewood Suites, chooses to invalidate and disprove our very real suffering. I strongly advise against staying at a hotel that puts their bottom line above a...
