We used to go here for entertainment mostly, but decided to stop in for brunch as it's been awhile. Went around 1pm for brunch/lunch as it was Sunday. We were looking forward to revisiting, but upon arrival the restaurant was disheveled. Uncleared tables, broken glass under one two-seater near the entrance, and wait staff looking like it was an already very long day. I couldn't understand why so many tables were not cleared and a broken glassware safety hazard wasn't cleared while people were standing around. A female manager or what seemed like a person in charge told us we could sit anywhere! My wife and I decided to sit at the bar where the disinterested bartender decided to wipe the spaces where we were sitting. Since the bartender didn't serve us he got a female wait person to help us who was already extremely busy- it seemed. It appeared as if some people had plenty to do, while others just stood arounhd. When she came back she served us waters and said she would return shortly. It wasn't shortly, and the bartender had disappeared- for quite awhile. When she returned we ordered two coffees and I ordered a mimosa. I had to return the mimosa because the glass was dirty and smelled. It was replaced with apology but the barware should've been checked prior to serving. When we did place our order it came quickly. I had a crabcake benny and my spouse had an omelet. Both tasted well but I had a few crab shells in the benny and I had to wipe off our utensils before using them. I think they need a new dishwasher or something. Our wait person was cordial about the dirty glassware and the forgotten coffee and even made some small concessions but, I am sorry, I cannot remain silent about the whole visit. We should have taken a queue from the very start upon our less than stellar greeting and the lack of pride in the appearance of the dining room. I would recommend not "landing" anytime soon at the The Landings, or at the least, keep your eyes open to the lack of pride, work ethic, cleanliness, and tired service. Hopefully the management will take a hard look and make some needed changes. The Landings used to be a good...
Read moreMy husband and I have lived in Carlsbad for 2 years. We don’t eat breakfast out often, but when the cleaning crew comes to clean, we usually go out to breakfast and then run errands. We have tried many places: Broken Yolk (greasy hash browns); 20/Twenty at one of the hotels near Legoland (OK food, VERY slow service and pricey; Al’s in Carlsbad (pretty good food, but typical coffee shop atmosphere; Honey’s (pretty good food, but noisy atmosphere and tables are about a foot from each other, and they do pack them in; Daily News Cafe (good food and service, horrible parking, great coffee; Beach Plumb Cafe (just ok); and others.
This morning, we decided to try The Landing at Palomar airport. We were amazed! There was lots of parking, to start with. The restaurant had a good vibe, with a nice outside eating area, an attractive inside water fountain and very clean and attractive inside tables and an attractive bar! We sat by the window, with a view of planes landing and taking off. It wasn’t busy, but I assume things pick up at lunchtime.
My husband ordered eggs Benedict, and California Benedict, which is a combination of Canadian bacon and avocado. They did charge him $2 to add both, which we thought was fair. He said it was the best EB he has had in this area, and perhaps anywhere, except mine at home! He likes the poached eggs to not be very runny, and they were perfect!
I ordered avocado toast. I was offered a choice of 4 different kinds of bread! I chose sourdough, and it came with an egg on top, tomatoes and fresh basil! The shock was that it was only $6! The same thing at the other restaurants I discussed above, ran between $8.50 and $15!
We will go back time and time again. We can’t wait to try their salads for lunch. They have at least 5 entree salads. And, we will take our out-of-town guests to hear the live music on weekends, or for happy hour!
I hope our future visits are as good as our first!
Other people should know about this...
Read moreI took my friend there today for her birthday. We went for their Sunday brunch and entertainment. The waitress was so rude and grouchy it was like walking on eggshells just to talk to her. She literally walked away twice while my friend and I asked questions. Any question was like a huge imposition. And the way she answered the question, which she did stick around for, was rude. I’m not sure why she’s a waitress.
I had the mahi mahi tacos and the fish was so dry. I could hardly swallow it. I asked if I could have a different side other than black beans and I was told no. The black beans were cold and tasted bad. My friend had the eggs Benedict. The English muffin was the smallest English muffin I’ve ever seen. Much smaller in diameter than a regular English muffin and about half the thickness. The Canadian bacon was a small triangle instead of a full round slice. The hollandaise sauce looked like it had been sitting around for a while. the waitress didn’t care if we were happy with the food or not. Honestly, I was not going to give her a tip, and that’s not some thing I usually do, however, when I went to pay, she stood over me with the credit card machine and watched everything I was doing. When I got to the screen that asked a thumbs up or a thumbs down about my experience, she grabbed the machine and said you don’t have to answer that. Their food used to be good. Now it’s incredibly overpriced and underwhelming. The entertainment was actually great. That was the only highlight of my friend’s birthday meal. We will definitely not be going back. This place has definitely...
