Look, in the interest of full disclosure I will honestly, and without shame, tell you that I am pretentious and uppity individual. I hate all things which lack a certain degree of class and so it was with enormous disappointment that I found myself held hostage by hostile weather conditions in Carthage which inarguably is not a metropolitan Mecca by any standard. Hesitantly, I made the reservation and even more so I opened the door to my room and ushered my never-pleased and ungrateful wife inside. The room was quite spacious and pleasant. The heat worked well and the hot water was in abundance. The bed was comfortable and the pillows firm. I was really impressed with the brick interior. It looked surprisingly nice. The internet (a necessity for me) moved along at a decent clip. The sheets, towels and floor were all clean. My companion ripped off the bedding and analyzed it in an embarrassing scene straight from any episode of the CSI television show. She found nothing of course. Moving forward if I ever have to stay in Carthage I have no problem staying here. I would totally recommend Carthage Inn. It's centrally located to all the important things in town. But here's the thing....we read reviews almost solely for the negatives, at least I do and my assumption is that we are all sadly similar so I will leave you with the only one I found: the wall sockets don't hold your plug-ins securely. The ones on the lamp were still good though. They need to be...
Read moreThe only positive things I can say about this place is that it had a good air conditioner, it was a convenient location, and the staff was quick to help....Now, for the bad.....||||Initially, I was struck by how dated everything was in my room. I got over that thinking, "Well, I only paid $50 and it looks clean." However, after a closer look, I realized that it is not just a situation where they need to update their furniture, it really is bad. You can judge for yourself from the pictures I'm posting whether or not you're willing to even pay $50 for this room. I regret my decision. ||||The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. There was a lump in the middle of my king-sized bed and the bed was hard. The sink had a long hair and other "stuff" in it which was a clear indicator that this had not been cleaned. My shower head was about eye-height and I'm not tall. It sprayed out the side of the shower, wetting the floor and carpet. Brown toilets?! Just when I thought I'd survive this one night nightmare, I turned around in my hard desk chair to see that I had slept with a large spider all night. I'm not opposed to having my dog in my bed occasionally, but spiders are a no-go for sure. This spider was about as big as one of those toy poodles! Save your money and sleep in your car; you'll at least avoid...
Read moreUPDATED: alright so I pulled the sheets off the bed to look at them with my phones light and I saw a wonderful mysterious brown stain on the sheets and then about 3 little stains of dried up blood :) well that’s wonderful it can possibly get worse…..can it? So I move the bed frame back and I see a wonderful little sleeping buddy to accompany me during my sleep, a roach! Well I sure am happy I bring a inflatable mattress with me in my car for my cross country trip. Especially I’m paying $60 to sleep in a room on a inflatable mattress on the floor next to buddy the roach. Well at least I get a shower with mold on the caulking :) ……….. from the past reviews I’m just not going to attempt to get my money back as this is a family owned place so I’m just going to sleep with my friend the roach and leave this review and never come back. Hope you and everyone reading this spends $20 more to sleep in clean not stained sheets. Although I’m sure you’ll regret not sleeping with my buddy Joseph (my roach sleeping buddy). Good luck to whoever is reading this and please spend the extra
UPDATE 2025: place seems to be under new management from the pictures. It looks like my review is no longer valid. Best of luck to the new owners place looks much better from the photos...
