I will start out that Cave City, KY is a small town. There isn't a lot to do outside of the cave tours and Dinosaur World. I made my reservation at the end of the year for Spring Break. The hotel has a pool, free breakast and parking and the rooms weren't badly priced.
We get to the hotel at around 4:30 CST (check-in is at 4). I am told at check-in that I don't have a reservation. I say hm, that is weird let me pull up my confirmation email. Then they say "I see what happened. Your card was declined so they left you a voicemail and canceled your reservation."
I said I have no call from this place or a voicemail. Check-in is at 4 when did they try to run the card and call me? They confirmed my phone number on file but began to tell me that they weren't sure. I asked them what the company policy is to cancel a reservation a mere 30 minutes after check-in. That the card that was "holding" the reservation was canceled a few weeks ago for a fraudulant charge and I was sorry but a quick phone call could have cleared this up. Their response was that they didn't have a manager working for me to speak with, they are completely sold out that night (b/c well it is Spring Break), BUT they could give me a discount. That when they are all booked up the manager doesn't always follow policy. Yep, their staff told me this. They also told me to write a review with my concerns. I ended up paying an extra $150 for the two nights. To me it was very slimy. I doubt I will find myself back in Cave City, but if I do I will be staying elsewhere.
In addition to that the room keys had to get keyed twice because they just stopped working. You would have to try and unlock your door about 10+s before you could get the light to turn green. One morning while the kids were sleeping and my husband was in the shower I went downstairs to get some coffee. I tried to get someone to recode my card again but no one came to the front counter after several minutes and ringing the front desk bell a few times.
The game room is about 5 claw machines. My kids weren't interested in even trying it out. The pool is tiny. It gets the job done but is very small. The breakfast consists of two waffle machines, apples, two dry cereals, and yogurt. Our duvet was dirty but the sheets were clean.
I'm not trying to trash this place. It served our needs. However, if you are looking for something nicer this is a step up...

I booked and prepaid with booking.com arrived at check-in and was told "they could not sell to me, because I live in an adjacent county" Shocked I asked why "That's policy" again why "I dont know" when I asked about a refund "I dont know " I scanned the lobby for said "policy" it was not posted anywhere. Of course I asked to see where this was stated. The lady said "right here" gesturing to something on her side of the counter out of view, she "attempted" to remove whatever she was gesturing to but stated "I can't move it" apparently it was a note taped to their side of the counter (out of public view) and she wasn't able to remove and show this "policy" We asked for the manager and was told " she's just gonna tell you the same thing" I then asked how to get in touch with the General manager (not night manager) I asked if he would be in the next day and was told "oh he doesn't come in here very often, I don't know how to contact him" The lady was rude and while I was on the phone with booking.com my daughter went to try to get info how to contact someone, she walked and the "lady" was on the phone with someone (i assume the night manager) talking "crap" about me not noticing my daughter had returned I called booking.com while in parking lot, they checked info they had on this hotel there was nothing stating this "policy" Thankfully they were able to refund my account I double checked sleep inn cave city website....there is NOTHING on their own site that states this "policy" I contacted choice hotels directly late that night, I had a response the next day. Although they could not change or explain this "policy"(that is not advertised publicly apparently) they were very polite and offered points on an upcoming reservation IF this is their "policy" they need to state it on their website so visitors dont waste time and gas There are several family oriented attractions located very close to this hotel. I wonder if the city and these attractions are aware of money they are loosing because of this "policy" We wanted to stay the night and go to some of the attractions the next day. No it wouldn't have been a long stay but it was just a little "get away" for my...
Read moreDuring our recent stay at Sleep Inn, we encountered a mixed experience that reflects the hotel's strengths and weaknesses.
Accommodations and Facilities: Sleep Inn lacks advertised amenities like a golf driving range or putt-putt golf, contrary to what their website suggests. The breakfast offerings were also limited, featuring only waffles, cold cereal, and yogurt. The explanation provided was that the hotel caters to a lower clientele than other hotels, and a full breakfast spread is not provided because of that, which is disappointing for guests expecting more variety.
Service and Staff: Upon check-in, we were greeted warmly by the staff, setting a positive tone for our stay. However, we faced an unfortunate plumbing issue in our room. Despite their efforts to fix it promptly, including a room change due to unavailable repairs, the second room did not have a hot tub, so it was a downgrade. The staff handling the issue were attentive and apologetic, which was appreciated. Unfortunately, requests for compensation for the inconvenience were initially denied by in-house staff, with an eventual minimal adjustment made by the general manager.
Room Condition: The room itself was well-maintained, with functioning air conditioning and amenities like a refrigerator. However, there were no premium TV channels available, which was another letdown.
Overall Experience: While the in-house staff demonstrated excellent customer service, the management's handling of issues left much to be desired. The lack of flexibility in addressing guest concerns, such as the plumbing issue and compensation, detracted from an otherwise comfortable stay. The hotel's basic offerings and management's apparent indifference to guest satisfaction suggest they prioritize cost-cutting over customer experience.
Conclusion: If you're seeking a budget-friendly option with minimal expectations for amenities and are willing to overlook a potential lack of hospitality, Sleep Inn could suffice. However, for those expecting a more accommodating and customer-centric experience, exploring other options might be advisable.
Rating: 3/5 Sleep Inn provides adequate accommodations but falls short in terms of service recovery and...
