This campground is easy to get to (right off 65). The sites are all pull through, gravel, and from what I can see all are level. Some sites have more shade than others, but all have some amount of shade.
The park is very well kept! There's a small salt water pool, a game room in the office, spotless restrooms. The staff is amazing! You can receive packages there (which we appreciate because we're full time). They'll even call you when your package arrives.
The only down side is the road noise and the trains. I wish trains didn't feel the need to blow their horns at 3am.. I know, I know... safety. There are times when 2 trains go by at once and that will rattle your RV. That being said... we would definitely stay here again for all the other reasons! They are affiliated with Good Sams, and they also provide a weekly discounted rate.
Mammoth Cave is the big attraction of course, but there is a lot to do in the area.
-Crystal Onyx Cave was spectacular! There were only 2 of us in the tour (it's off season). We got to see so much up close, and got to ask a lot of questions. You don't always get this much when there's a large group. -Big Mike's Rocks is a cool place to get rocks, gems, etc. On our tour of Crystal Onyx, Charlomay turned off lights and used a black light on some stones. My favorite was rubies in Garnet! So of course I bought one. -We opted not to do any of the cave tours in Mammoth itself. They're a little pricey and we've done several. That's why we went to Crystal Onyx. But there is a lot of hiking to do around Mammoth as well. Be sure to do the Cedar Sink Trail. It's almost 2 miles out and back and worth the trip. TIP: If you do this trail stay to the left when you get to the loop. There are a LOT of stairs going down to the sink hole. Then take the route to the left of the sink hole back - it's a gradual incline and you'll save...
Read moreLocation, location, location. These were the highlights and the lowlights of this place. Highlights very close to the interstate, very close to fuel, restaurants, and less than 10 miles from the visitor center of Mammoth Cave National Park. However, it was close to Kentucky State Rt 90 and very close to a very active rail road. Kentucky 90 was noisy at times but the railroad was very noisy at all hours of the day, and night.
Staff was nothing shy of amazing. We were greeted very courtesly and escorted to our site. After setting up we had a problem with the 50 amp service, before I could get my 30 to 50 dog bone set up, a very nice gentleman showed up on a golf cart and got to work. They picked up our trash daily, too.
The parking sites were long and wide and flat. I did not measure them, but our rig is 65 feet, and there was room in front and back. I would guess 75 feet long and about 12 feet wide. They supplied a picnic table and a fire ring. However, that area was a little tight. Our neighbors sewer hookup was very close to the fire ring, as was all the other sites. Navigating in and out while towing was a breeze.
WiFi was great, as well as the cable TV. 50 plus cable TV stations, and WiFi could easily handle streaming of shows. They also had a propane filling station, pickle ball courts, pool, and other amenities.
Dog park was one of the best we had seen! Very spacious for fido, and there was a covered area with chairs for the humans to sit while fido sniffed around.
All in all a great place, just avoid the south east side if you can (train). Opt for the north west side...
Read moreMy wife and I spent last weekend at Cave Country RV Campground and couldn't have been happier with the service we received. This was our first trip here and we will definitely plan to come back for a longer stay. The sites are maybe a bit narrow but plenty wide enough for even the huge 5th wheels and motorhomes to get in/out of, and sites on our end were nice and level. We were in site 51 and I did let the new owner (Luis) know that the spot where we parked our truck needed gravel because there was a nice deep puddle the morning we left after raining most of the night. We didn't use the bath or laundry, but we did check out both and they were both very clean and well maintained. We also found out (after a trip to Walmart) that the office does have a nice selection of supplies that are priced very competitively so check there first if you need something. WiFi was so-so - was able to use my phone/tablet but the TV wouldn't connect. Power/water/sewer hookup worked great with no issues. The campground was clean and quiet (other than the train that went by several times a day), and located very conveniently right off I-65. GPS may not route you this way, but the best way to get into the campground is to turn at the light between McDonald's and Cracker Barrel, follow that street to the end then turn right on Gaunce as Gaunce was closed at the next street where our GPS routed us originally so we had to detour around and circle back. Overall this was a great, reasonably priced campground that we'll come back to next time we're...
