An employee entered my room and stole $1115. I have stayed here a few times through out the years and yes it was poor quality but the cheapest option in Charleston that I thought was safe. Well this time I was proven wrong. I discovered it had been taken with in two hours of the theft, I told the manager Cody who informed me that he would check my door log and see who had been in and out of my room. I asked him if he could just speak to the employees still currently on the floor and ask them to put my money back. He said it was not his job to speak to the employees and I needed to call the police. I was confused by his lack of concern but at least he was going to check the door log. Eventually he told me that the data was corrupted and my door log was not working. However he stood by the suggestion that I was “extorting” La Quinta and no hotel employees had entered my room since I checked in. He offered to refund me for the rest of my trip (which would have been a couple hundred dollars) so I could check out and go to another hotel. I could not afford that after just been robbed and such short notice so I had no financial choice except to stay in the hotel. I called La Quinta corporate to file a complaint, they still have not reached back out. I’m waiting on the police department to get the room information that Cody said was corroded. When I went to pick up the police report I discovered something that proved I was telling the truth, Cody had tried to slander me to the police officer by saying he believed I was extorting them based on my “odd behavior” when the police officer asked him to describe the behavior Cody said, “Her room was full of clothes everywhere and she had a tripod set up, when she came down she was accusatory about her money being stolen.”
I am not going to get my money back that was stolen from me, and that’s fine. But I will be sure to inform everyone that Cody had something to do with my money going missing. My whole trip was ruined, I had to lock up all my stuff and take everything of value with me every time I left the hotel, because it was safer on a public beach than my hotel room. I spent over a thousand dollars on my stay there, I should have been able to leave my belongings in my room.
Next and less prominent, it has severely gone down hill quality wise. The rooms have black mold and are falling apart, I had to buy an air purifier just to breathe in my hotel room. The WiFi didn’t work my entire week long stay, the sheets and blankets were stained. The outlets didn’t work. The room had such a musty smell I had to keep the air freezing to be able to stand it. And there are cockroaches. The carpet was so dirty it would turn my feet and socks black, and everything was sticky. And they took a $75 “incidental deposit” and never returned it. I wouldn’t have even complained about all that if I had atleast been treated better after being robbed. La Quinta could have gotten my money back from the employee who took it, and...
Read moreGreat location and, a great view. But I was in the lobby listening to a conversation between 1 lady and the lady at the desk. The lady at the desk was completely rude and I thought it was one of them moments the desk lady was having an issue that day. Like a bad day like most people often have in the economy, we live with today.🤔 the thing went so far south I thought the lady was gonna knock the lady behind the desk out! it was the way she was talking to her. But the lady just stood there a gasp.🫣 she closed her mouth after the lady behind the desk got done berating a customer mind you. The customer just said u should get some manners and learn a few things about customer service. Then out of nowhere the lady behind the desk blurts out loud, it echoes through the building " you people, think all black people look alike". I was stunned, the customer responded kindly "people no matter what tone of skin we are all different. And that is a huge assumption on your part. Can I have my key please"
The fact this place is located in one the best places to have a beautiful view and be by the water. The building is great looking. Could use some TLC. Parking lot needs some attention. But truth be told it's the other customers they allow to rent the rooms. The local thugs , Or wanna-be gangstas. The white trash they let walk around outside and the drug deals that go on in the back of this place. Even the room I was visiting had weed smell coming from outside the hallways and next-door room. Ashamed to say I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. If the locals or crime doesn't scare you away. The racist desk clerk will.
I followed behind the customer, because I felt compelled to tell her I heard it all. I even recommended her contact an attorney and file a civil suit against the place for discrimination. She told me that she was just staying here so she didn't have to drive all the way on the other side the city. It was closer to her work and she only needed the hotel cause she works at the children's hospital.
She also said she wouldn't do such a thing cause hate only begets hate. I told her I agree. Any cognitive and reasonably sound person would. Its 2025 , no one does that crap these days. Or at least be taken serious. They are a joke to society. A stain on our history and nothing more.
But I wanted to post this review in hopes to reach out to the company, the employees and the customers. I love you, through Jesus may each of you find peace and love in this world to fill your hearts and souls. May u hold your love ones tight and the ones you don't know may u feel the warmth in their hearts and the life in their eyes. Cause each and everyone one of you matter. Place one foot forward , and say not today devil i walk with my king, my lord, my savour and my God today! You are special. Love yourselves.
I left times and dates void, excluding names. For the protection of the customer, the staff As well as ill review this place from time to time to change my review. I live around here.. this my city too. I wish for it to succeed. We can do better together. Cant fix if u dont...
Read moreIf I could give 0/10 stars I would!! We stayed 6/8/25 - 6/12/25 and This was our first ever family vacation and the first time ever taking our 6yr old on vacation or to the beach. When we got there they checked us into a room that had not been cleaned from the guest that checked out 2 days prior to our arrival. They corrected it by moving us to another room the same night which was difficult because we had already unloaded and my husband has a motorized wheelchair and my autistic, non verbal son has a stroller wagon so it was a lot for me to move.
For the next 2 mornings after my husband went to eat breakfast he came back and the room keys did not work because they kept checking us out of our room.
Then we were charged $20 for parking which I’ve never heard of a hotel charging their guest for parking. I mean where else are you supposed to park? But I let that slide.
The Wi-Fi never worked while we were there, the air conditioner barely kept the room cool. As a matter of fact I had travel fans I had to use because even with the air on we were sweating in the room.
Then we saw a roach bug crawling on one of our beds around the 3rd night of being there. The sheets were dirty on the beds.
The final straw was after I complained about all of this to the manager and he offered to refund 2 of my nights and my parking fee but then hit me with a $400 “smoking” charge just a few hours later and refused to refund it. Thankfully my financial institution is going to refund me this ridiculous charge.
First of all I read and signed the smoking policy because I don’t smoke nor did I smoke or plan to smoke in my room. I have a child and my husband has lung issue and has to wear a breathing machine so there is no way we would’ve smoked around any of that. And furthermore, they only have 1 logged incident out of the whole 5 days we stayed there. So don’t you think if we were smoking in the room they would’ve have several incidents recorded from the so called air quality device that’s attached to the back of the dressers in the rooms. Which mind you, air quality can be affected by a number of things other than smoke such as humidity (I mean we were in Charleston right on the river with temps over 90 at times) or high room temps (again our air barely worked), or even aresol cans (air fresheners or hairspray), amongst many other things. Never once did a smoke detector go off during our whole stay.
I truly hope this review helps some other family not to have such a horrible experience and hopefully avoid staying here. The staff was rude and very unhelpful or had attitudes most the time. They were not accommodating at all to their mistakes and it truly ruined my first ever vacation I was able to take my kid on. I will NEVER stay at this hotel again and likely after all this never a Wyndham hotel again at all.
I hope that the franchise owner of this hotel really looks into things considering I’m reading several reviews similar to mine. I’m shocked the doors are still open...
