My wife and I stayed at the Residence Inn to celebrate her birthday on July 7. I used my free night gift certificate for one night and paid for the second night. My wife used her free night certificate for the night of July 8th. When we checked in on July 6th, I told the front desk agent my wife's free night reservation was attached to my reservation. The front desk looked up both reservations and made notation so we wouldn't have to re-check in.
On July 8 at 9:02 AM, hotel staff knocked on our door and asked if we would be checking out. She didn't know we were staying another day. At around 11:05 AM, the front desk called and asked if we were checking out. I repeated that my wife's reservation was attached to my reservation. She looked it up and said we had to recheck in and we had to come to the front desk because our keys wouldn't work after 11 AM. We came down and rechecked in.
On July 9 at around 9:05 AM, hotel staff knocked on our door and asked if we would be checking out. We told them yes. Around 10:30 AM, a different hotel staff member knocked on our door and asked if we were checking out. We told that staff member that someone else knocked on the door earlier and she said didn't know that. I asked why did you and the rest of staff knock on our door before 11 AM? She said sorry and moved on. At 11:25AM, our phone ringed but we didn't answer as we were walking out the door to check out. We get down to the front desk, the front desk manager said she called because check out is 11AM. I replied I've stayed in many Marriott's throughout the years and have never had staff members knock on the doors early in the morning and call so close to 11AM just to see if we are checking out. Front desk manager repeated check out is at 11AM. I said I was a Marriott Silver member and front desk manager responded again that check out is at 11AM.
I've never had an experience at a Marriott where the staff was so intent on getting me to checkout right at 11AM. We were in San Diego to celebrate my wife's birthday and we felt this experience ruined our celebration weekend. I understand the hotel just recently opened but this experience left a bad feeling...
Read moreThe Good: Very modern looking hotel. The room is nicely decorated. There is a small shelf next to a power outlet with usb ports, which came in handy charging our mobile devices. The shower was very cool and had a mounted shampoo/bodywash/conditioner dispenser. The kitchen had a nice layout with a bar stool counter to eat food. The complimentary breakfast was very good and had a lot of options to choose from. The front desk staff greeted us every time we came back to left the hotel. The room is very spacious with plenty of areas to store your luggage. The location of the hotel is very close to a lot of shopping and restaurants.
The Bad: There were GNATS flying in our room the entire stay there. I talked to the front desk and reported the issue. They offered the check the room. I noticed that they hung one of those fly traps in the room, but it didn't help. I reported that they are still in our room the next day and one of the front desk people said that "this is typical when the weather is warm and we are working on it." I don't think GNATS in a room is typical and should be addressed immediately. They offered to spray our room, but I did not feel comfortable with that, especially with our two toddlers with us.
Also we did not have our room cleaned during our stay. The cleaning lady came later in the day when we are already back in the room resting from the days activities. We kindly asked if they can come later, but the answer we got was "no we can't because we clock out soon." I don't think that is an appropriate answer to give either, especially when the room should have been cleaned during the day while we were out.
I wanted to give this place an excellent review, but I can't with the two incidences we encountered. If it weren't for the GNATs and the housekeeping, I would...
Read moreMy stay started off bad I came inside the hotel to check in and the person who helped me name was Denise she gave me a room on the 1st floor at the time I didn’t think anything of it she gave me my keys and myself, husband and my two kids went to our room once we got inside the room we noticed that it was a room for a handicap person everything in the room was accessible and I noticed it looked nothing like the room I booked online. Myself and my family were pretty upset especially because my kids were very tired and just wanted to sleep and relax. I called the front desk and Denise answered the phone and I complained about the issue I told her I’m not a handicap person and no one else with me is handicap either. Denise told me sorry we don’t have any other rooms available. I asked her how could no more rooms be available if I went online to book a room and the type of room I booked should be available she then said no it’s not available the only thing she could do was offer me points on my account so I kept asking her to please help us and I told her I did not need the points I just want the room I booked online she then said she is sorry she couldn’t help me. I asked her to speak to a manager and she put me on hold then some by the name of Rose (Rosemary) came to the phone and asked me what was the issue I told her and she put me on a brief hold and once she came back to the phone she told me that she had a room available and she would bring my new keys and I can give her my old keys back. We went to the new room and everything was perfect and it was the room we booked online but it was just very frustrating that we had to go through so much just receive what I booked online but thanks Rose...
