My partner and I came for dinner on 12/30. We had a reservation at 9:15pm but showed up early (around 8pm) just to check in and see the hotel as it was our first time there. We were greeted by the lovely host who informed us that our table was actually almost ready if we wanted to sit early. Great! We waited maybe about 5 minutes and were looking at the books and smelling the fragrances and another employee came and actually said our table wouldnât be ready until closer to our time. Totally fine! We asked if maybe we could get a drink at the bar (The Maker Lounge) and she brought us back there to a different host. That host said there may not be room for us, but could check. She came back and said there were actually two seats at the bar opening up - great! Didnât want to inconvenience anyone, but took the opportunity. We were very grateful. While we were waiting for our seats they ended up turning away another couple because of no room. We sat down and ordered two drinks and as soon as we got them, the employee came back and said our table was ready whenever we wanted. We had just received our drinks, but sat for a few moments (maybe 10 min?) to talk and taste our drinks and the original host came back to also tell us our table was ready. All in all, we ended up sitting at about 9pm. While everyone was super nice, it seemed a bit disorganized and the bar ended up losing out on business (the couple who left) and we ended up feeling a bit rushed. We did find out that the kitchen was backed up, hence why they did not want to seat us right away. Totally good, but if you tell us our table wonât be ready closer to 9:15 off the bat, thatâs good too and we are happy to go with that was our original reservation time :).
Despite the slightly confusing seating situation, I do think this is a must-do in Hudson. The space itself is incredibly beautiful - the perfect balance of swanky and modern paired with classic old world. We ate in the Conservatory and highly recommend, especially if you love greenery. Our drinks were absolutely fantastic and expertly crafted. We tried the Love in the time of Cholera, the Wild, the Paradiso, and two of the martinis.
Our server Kelly made our night. Her passion, knowledge, and love of her job for the restaurant really shone through. She guided us through the menu so kindly and answered all of our questions. Thank you Kelly!!!!
Also, while everything was delicious, the eggplant terrine was a religious experience for me. It truly was one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life. I would drive two hours from the city and sit at the bar and have two of those as my dinner and be in heaven. I would order extra baguette just to make sure you can scrape up the whipped ricotta and chili oil.
Overall, thanks for listening and we really cannot wait to come back...
Read moreI feel compelled to post a review of the Maker restaurant and the service my family and I received last night. I made a reservation for my wifeâs birthday for 7 people at 6pm. We have been to this restaurant several times and had always had very good experiences.
At the end of the night last night, my wife and I were embarrassed! We arrived early, as we wanted to have a drink before dinner in the lounge. Upon arriving to the restaurant we were met by who I believe was the restaurant manager. We gave him our name and advised of our reservation for 6pm, it was 5:30 at this time. We were immediately told that he was happy we came early and that we should be seated right away as they needed the table back by 8 pm. We were not greeted or welcomed in - we felt rushed from the moment we walked through the door. This man told 3 different people in our party that we needed to be out by 8pm. His tone of voice, demeanor and delivery was rude.
Some other things to note which missed the mark: I ordered a glass of wine (Pinot noir) and noticed that it smelled strange and tasted of vinegar. It had obviously gone bad and I advised the waitress, who brought a new bottle to the table and poured me a fresh glass. Two of the meals at the table were overly salted to the point that it was not enjoyable. We called ahead to see if we could bring a cake for my wifeâs birthday and we advised of a $30 serving fee. I nearly choked. I asked the manager if it would be possible to waive that fee and he told me he would see what he could do but that those fees are customary. In actuality we were charged $35.
The dinner servers were pleasant, they did a great job.
We waited 15 minutes for our jackets to be located in the coat check - we couldnât get out of there fast enough. We spent nearly $1,000 last night and overall our experience was awful. The evening was ruined from the beginning by the manger and his lack of professionalism. I grew up the hospitality I industry and my parents ran a successful resort - we were all appalled at how we were treated and have no intention...
Read moreThis review is based entirely on the first 2 minutes of our time spent at the maker. My husband made a reservation to bring our families here to celebrate my birthday. We drove an hour and a half during a snowstorm and arrived 30 minutes prior to our 6pm reservation time. As we stepped into the restaurant, we were approached by a man who said it's a good thing we arrived early because we can be seated right away. We told him our reservation wasn't until 6 and that we wanted to have a drink in the lounge first. He replied that the lounge was only for hotel guests which is entirely untrue as I have been to the lounge several times and have never stayed as a guest at the hotel. However, even if it had been true, there is no reason why a request to relax and have a drink in any of the other available spaces (i.e., the library or on the couches by the fire) could not have been accommodated. He then proceeded to look at his watch and tell us that we needed to be done by 8pm. He was completely rude, obnoxious and off putting. It ruined the mood of everyone in our party. When you make a reservation on the website, nowhere does it say that reservations are for 2 hour time slots. And while I understand that sometimes this does happen and you need to turn the tables quickly, there is certainly a way to convey that to the party of 7 that just walked through the door. Additionally, the group that sat at hour table immediately after us was a party of 4 - none of us observed any other tables getting rushed out of the restaurant to accommodate this group of 4 people.
I will add that this was not my first time here. My husband and I had been to the maker several times prior to last night and it was always great so I looked forward to bringing my family here. Truthfully, I'm embarrassed by how we were treated and my parents and in-laws were beside themselves. There is no excuse for treating customers this way.
(Shout out to our servers who were...
