Altogether very solid restaurant with some very high notes and a few mediums. Let's start with the great. The smoked sausage is hands down the best BBQ sausage I've had, it's almost closer to an Italian style with fennel, but I'm not a purest and it's just delicious with a perfect snap. The house smoked bacon is also solid. It's not particularly bacon-y, and rather more just a cured smoked pork belly. It is quite enjoyable, although slightly dry. And the two dark BBQ sauces are delicious, especially the chipotle. The highest high was the mussels and house chorizo appetizer... O. M. G. I want that every day. They should serve it with bread to sop up every last bit of that perfect sauce.
Other notable yummyness, the hearty chunk of cornbread. Nice work! And the house pickles are sweet and pair nicely with everything. We also loved the collards and ham, although it is surprisingly sweet.
For the mediums (not lows, mind you): the BBQ ribs and chopped brisket are pretty mediocre. They're not the kind of falling apart, smoky deliciousness I expect at a place like this, but slathered in sauce, they do the job. The orange-ish colored BBQ sauce is not great, more like a tangy salad dressing. The mac & cheese is good, but the pasta is a bit overcooked.
The service was good and prices are very fair. Love the atmosphere and the whisky selection, which unfortunately didn't get to sample this visit.
We'll definitely be back and look forward to trying the rest...
Read moreAs much as I was looking forward to visiting this barbecue Restaurant after doing my research and reading previous positive reviews, I'm sad to say I am very disappointed with my short, yet eye opening experience. It was dinner time, my husband and I walked in at 7PM the restaurant closes at 9:30. The hostess at the front took a look at us without greeting us, she turned around to the person behind the bar and asked the woman a question that I couldn’t hear. The woman looked at us and said sorry we are not sitting anyone or serving anyone at this time. My husband and I looked confused because there was still a good amount of time before they closed and the bar was being serviced as well as the restaurant. I’m Puerto Rican and my husband is African American. We took a good look at the crowd in the room and they were all Caucasian. We politely tried to understand the women. She said she doesn’t have enough staff to serve us, but as we walked out, she took a family of 5 inside (that’s were Caucasian) which confused us even more. She couldn’t serve us but happily took them in. Hudson is a gorgeous place, that is very open to different types of people from different backgrounds/preferences. This is why I enjoy coming here but this establishment needs to do better. I’m very surprised and still, confused. American Glory can adjust their hours if they can’t accommodate ppl due to short staff so it can avoid us feeling like we were discriminated...
Read moreWhen I come to Hudson, NY, I do that for one reason and one reason only. To visit The Crimson Sparrow, which is easily my favorite restaurant in the US (of those I've tried). Sadly, The Crimson Sparrow (and virtually everything else) is closed on Sunday evenings. Given the strong arts and antique community in Hudson, another thing that's missing from many places is TVs showing sports. Enter American Glory BBQ.
Open Sunday evenings (dinner served until 9).
One big TV showing whatever the most important game is over the bar.
This was clutch on June 19th as the NBA finals game 7 was a tight one going into the second half so my friends and I wandered into American Glory. The kitchen had closed a few minutes before we arrived, but the amazing staff kicked in their hospitality and made up a plate of BBQ and sides for my friend who hadn't eaten.
The BBQ ribs are spot on and they have a variety of sauces to season as you like. Nice long draft beer list. Pretty much a menu you'd expect from a place called American Glory.
Super, super friendly staff. I don't know if it's a Hudson thing or not, but I keep finding very friendly servers at most of the places I've visited. Probably good management as well. The owner is a big hearted Italian guy who knows his BBQ. Will definitely be back in next time I'm in Hudson and in need of BBQ ribs (or a game).
Gets a 5th star since it's essentially the only game in town when you want to...
