Had an extremely uneven dining experience here. We had 5 items, squid sorprese, meatball appetizer, sourdough bread, grilled pork ribs, and lamb loin.
The squid sorprese was a very good dish, if a tad spicy. The meatball appetizer was flavorful. We thought it would be nice to ask for some bread to accompany it. At this point, we thought everything was going pretty well, but it went downhill from there.
We asked for sourdough bread. It took a really long time and when it came out, it was basically my discovery that I don't like their use of their grilling at all. It came with 5 pieces of bread, one piece was completely inedible as it was burnt, and bits of the other 4 pieces were burnt as well, putting an unpleasant taste. I dug out the non-burnt pieces. The wait staff came by to check by and didn't seem to notice I had a pile of burnt bread leftover. I explicitly mentioned it was too toasted beyond my liking - they gave me a comment about how great the sourdough bread is, almost like they ignored my feedback and just defaulted to their speech about the bread.
At this point it was time for the main courses. The grilled pork ribs were extremely underwhelming. While they did a decent grilling it, it was very plain dish. The sauce was minimal and could barely taste it. The lamb loin unfortunately was bad in a few ways. It tasted game-y and not seasoned well (we had asked for reduced salt, but it tasted not seasoned at all, and also the appetizers had sufficient amounts of salt). The outside of the lamb loin had more burnt areas like the sourdough burnt. We told the waitress about the lamb gaminess, who to the restaurant's credit, was very gracious about it, asked the kitchen about it for an explanation, and took it off the bill and asked if we wanted anything else. As a side note, I go to steakhouses and I eat grilled meats but what they're doing here is not the same. The grill is not enhancing the flavor.
Unfortunately, we left the place hungry and ended up getting a...
Read moreI booked a reservation through Resy on March 20th for 8pm on Friday March 29th to celebrate my Easter birthday as well as my partners birthday (March 28th). I was surprised when I arrived and was told we had been reserved on the patio, with no prior mention of outdoor seating being a possibility. This being my first visit to the restaurant, I would have much preferred indoor seating on such a cool, breezy evening, or a least prior mention as to where we were being seated based on the weather this time of year. The temperature was in the upper-mid 30's and quite breezy. The warmers helped when they were functioning (the one at our table was broken and never fixed or replaced). None of the smaller warmers remained lit through our entire meal, though a large, ceiling mounted one provided heat to the half of our table lucky enough to be sitting directly below it. When the wind picked up, a small door the patio that was poorly duct taped shut kept opening, which directed a brisk gust of wind to the colder side of the table. Service was warm and welcoming, and the staff was quick to service and attentive. The food was enjoyable, though expensive at $27 for three noodles of pappardelle with a coating of shredded braised beef. Considering where we were sat, removed from ambiance of the interior, I would have preferred being told we were being sat outside on such a cold night. If this is all that was available with 9 days notice, we would have cancelled the reservation and dined at the establishment where we enjoyed cocktails before dinner. Considering the price, guests should at the very least be warm and comfortable, without relying on communal blankets and inadequate...
