I am giving them a fair amount of leeway because they are new. The chicharrones were the best I have ever had — tender and meaty, cooked perfectly. The “surf and turf” entree was a mixed bag — the black beans and plantains that accompanied the dish were excellent. The steak, chicken breast strips and fish were OK, nothing special. The grilled shrimp was good. The small Caesar salad accompaniment on the plate was also nothing special and the dressing served with it either came out of the bottle or was a house made swing and miss. At $25.00, the dish was not a great value. It was explained to us that the margarita machine was not working properly, so we excuse the fact that the margaritas were watery and flavorless. They apply an automatic 18% gratuity to all checks and then present an option to add more. This is unusual locally, so I think they ought to point it out more clearly than they do. The service was OK, but not exactly attentive as the waiter was also the bartender and spent much of his time chatting with the two bar patrons and ignoring the dining room.
