Decided to visit Lancaster and Amish country. My wife and I are not really B&B people, but this place really kind of intrigued us.|Upon arrival you will be amazed at the beauty of this 150 year old Victorian mansion and how well maintained it is.|Tom the owner personally greets you and gives you a tour of his home. A renounced painter, his work is hung throughout the home.|Pretty much brought back to its period decor, the place evokes thoughts and images of times gone by.|We stayed in the Rembrandt room. It had a 4 poster bed and claw foot bathtub beside the bed. Beautifully decorated it was a pleasure just to sit in our room and relax. The room had both AC and a refrigerator.|The memory foam mattress was very comfortable and the room was very quiet even though it faced the road. The wall mounted TV was small, but if you go on vacation to watch TV you need revaluate your travel goals.|The sit down served breakfast was not the best we had ever had, but it was varied from day to day and enjoyable none the less. Sitting with other guests in a century old dining room for a leasurely meal and conversation only added to the charm of our visit.|The location is only a 2 minute walk to historic downtown Columbia and a great brew pub. You are also close to the river trail if going for a nature hike entices you. For ice cream lovers, the Turkey Hill experience is a couple of blocks walk.|Lancaster is a 10 minute drive and Amish country about 20.|In the end the best part of our getaway was our stay at the mansion. I cannot recommend Hermansader highly enough. And, Tom was a wonderful and helpful host.|If you go, make sure you get a good look at the beautiful main staircase and inlaid celing...
Read moreWe spent two nights here this past weekend, and really enjoyed our stay! Columbia is a great location for exploring Lancaster County (right next door), and Gettysburg (about an hour away). ||||The B&B was built in 1890, and artist Tom Hermansader has owned it for the past 30 years. He's taken amazing care of the place - the woodwork, the period furniture - and the beautiful art (most of it his own), really adds to the charm. ||||Tom prepared really nice breakfasts both mornings - french toast and bacon with fresh yogurt/berries the first morning, and fresh berries with ham/cheese crepes and potatoes the next. The dining room where breakfast is held is gorgeous - and full of Tom's artwork.||||We've stayed in B&Bs in various countries (in particular the UK), but Tom's had the most character. I look forward to returning, and referring other people to stay here when...
Read moreTom and Janice are terrific! This is a lovely bed and breakfast with beautiful rooms, filled with antiquities and adorned with paintings created by Tom himself whom is quite the accomplished artist. The house has a wonderfully relaxed feel to it with the beautiful landscaped gardens and yard around the house and the front porch where you can sit and just enjoy the fireflies. Everyone who stayed has been incredible! It's close to the Clock Museum and everything else is only a walk away! The rooms have private bathrooms and mini fridges and each morning Janice and Tom create a delicious breakfast! I would certain recommend staying here and enjoying the...
