Let's start with what is for me the main point: Internet. For a computer engineer traveling on business, this is essential, and for this location I have good news and bad news:
The good news is that just before my stay (June 2022) they had replaced their wifi routers and upstream connection. Others complained about poor signal and slow speed, especially on upper floors. I was on the third floor (of four) and had an excellent signal and bandwidth, no dropped connections over four days. (Nota bene: I did pay circa US$20 for their one-week upgraded Internet, again because I use it for remote workplace. That hopefully increased the upstream bandwidth, but it would not have affected the radio signal to the router.)
The bad news for traveling professionals is that their infrastructure blocks some outbound ports, notably UDP port 1194 and TCP port 22, the destination ports for OpenVPN and OpenSSH, respectively. I am going to contact their corporate office to raise this as a serious issue for business travelers. If they fix it, I'll update this review. Both of these ports are legitimately used for remote server administration and for connecting to company network resources, and since this hotel markets to long-duration business travelers, it's a significant gap.
As for the room and service, I have no complaints. The room is not fancy at all, but that's not something I care about. It was spacious and clean. The kitchenette is a nice feature, with a microwave, stovetop, and refrigerator. There was a nice-sized desk with a chair that was armless but otherwise well suited to working remotely.
The bathroom was thoroughly clean, and water pressure on the third floor was good. The air conditioner was a little noisy but worked very well for this northern-climate person who doesn't handle hot weather very well.
Staff were friendly and professional and went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed. Breakfast is grab-and-go -- not elaborate, but meets the requirement they set out to meet, which is providing food for busy people who want to take it with them. (For instance, the bowls, cups, and utensils are set up for takeout rather than eat-in.)
I'm giving this location four stars, because despite not being upscale, it was a great value for the modest price I paid. It's not fair to compare a hotel at less than US$100 per night against more luxurious hotels at much higher rates. I wanted a simple, quiet, clean room with a decent workspace, and I got it at an excellent price.
The one star withheld is for the blocked ports on the Internet, which is a critical issue for a software engineer like me. The onsite staff don't have authority to change that, so I'm going directly to their corporate office and will update this review if and when they...
Read moreI wish I would have looked at the reviews before I booked this location. I spent 57 years in Columbus, Ohio and came back here for a visit after many years and I figured I knew the location and what I would get. Boy was I wrong.
One thing is consistent here and I will agree with it. The staff seems to care and is responsive. The issue is that the hotel itself, and every facility or perceived amenity within it is really bad, so it doesn't matter how responsive they are when you're talking about a really bad foundation for everything that emanates from it.
I arrived here early from Florida and you cannot get into the building. If you do not already have a key card. I had to wait until an employee arrived at 9:00 a.m. The facility itself smells unpleasant, and perhaps that is because they allow pets and over time that will happen. The scents used to try to cover up these odors are perhaps worse than the odors themselves.
My biggest complaint might be just in the advertising of a extended stay facility with a full kitchen. Just look at the photos next to the stove where it says do not cook with oil. What? I can't fry something in a skillet with oil? And of course you really can't because although it has a full kitchen listed. There isn't a single utensil, pot, pan, bowl, spoon, fork, napkin, or anything in the kitchen. There's not even a small soap or jar of soap to squirt on your hands to wash. You must buy it all. And of course they offer it at the front desk. You can buy a knife, fork, spoon, cup, bowl, and plate for $20. I hope you're eating alone every night because it's $40. If you have a guest.
I haven't used a laundromat in quite some time so maybe $3.50 to do a wash and $3.50 to use the dryer is an average fee. In the same room, as you can see from the photos, our vending machines that have no prices on the items. I have never seen this before.
Last, my room is okay, but it is filthy. The standard things to be cleaned are ostensibly clean, but God forbid you actually look around. There are things on the ceiling above the shower that should have been cleaned a year ago. The base of the toilet has gnarly hairs around it, and there are so many dust molts and cobwebs on the ceiling above the refrigerator that it would make a good Halloween 11 movie. The physical construction of the building is bad and you can hear everyone walking around and talking and living their lives through the thin walls and thin floors, and it's just a very...
Read moreMy Fiancé and I are currently staying here. Customer service is very imperative to me, im on my journey to open sober living communities in Youngstown and Columbus as I continue on studying for my Doctorines in psychology. During relocating back to Columbus Ohio to pursue this purpose God has for me, Ive had lots of customer service experiences that needed some work. Tay would be the type of person that I would love to work for me in my sober living community. She custom tailors her Customer service based off of her guests needs. She's always professional and remains cool, calm and collected during conflict. There was a situation where she had to deal with a woman who was threatening and disorderly, Tay handled this woman so professionally no matter how many threats the woman threw her way. She treats guest as guest and not customers. As im walking through doors and heading to the elevator I overhear her interacting with guest, it's always smiles, laughter and help in any way she can. I would like to explain the review to corporate because there is so much to say about Tay's Customer service. We also had an issue with our fridge. After reporting it Lontae (Maintenance) was at our door within ten minutes. After discovering the issue he had quickly replaced our fridge with a brand new one, This whole process took less than 30 minutes. Lontae's Customer service is also amazing. If there is any issue he quickly handles it in a timely manner and never gives off the impression that the guest is simply asking for too much. New beds and Tv's were just recently placed in all rooms. There was absolutely nothing wrong with our bed and TV however, Extended stay cares so much for their guest, they upgraded rooms just because. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone that wants to be treated like a quest, that wants tailored service, and that wants a hotel that cares about your comfort. Thank you Lontae and Tay. I will be speaking to...
