Disappointed.
I was working at this location since February of this year, and I am truly disappointed in the lack of professionalism and the new management at this location that has came into effect. I worked here ONE day a week, this was part time as I run several businesses.
I was basically wrongfully terminated for absolutely no reason at all. I was completing a shift, went to the bathroom and felt extremely sick and threw up in the restroom. As soon as it happened, I went into the office, of course to tell the manager. She proceeded to look up at me while she had her headphones in on the phone with a gentleman, and proceeded to say “Ok”, And was seemingly confused why I was bothering her at the moment it seemed like. She didn’t even tell me to feel better, and did not care about my well-being.
I proceeded to tell her that I basically did not feel good, and that I don’t think that I can continue with my shift. Mind you, I just proceeded to tell this lady that I literally puked in the bathroom. She did nothing and did not care. She then proceeded to tell me to call another coworker to see if they could come in. I proceeded to text them, but at the time I did not get a response from them. Once again, I just told this lady I threw up in the restroom about five minutes ago. I did not feel adequate completing my shift and I told her that. She was busy on the phone and doing something in the office on her computer, I felt extremely sick and I left. Like I said, I just told her prior that I could not complete my shift and I did not feel good. I clocked out and I went home. I had completed half of my shift, and the remainder of time was about 3 1/2 hours left.
I did not think anything of it, as that is normal at a job that if you do not feel good and you quite literally got sick at work you should be able to leave after letting your manager know. A couple days went by, and I noticed that the manager retaliated on me basically and took a shift away that was already pre-assigned to me, as I had the same schedule every single week. So I proceeded to call to check in with the manager to see if there was an issue, and why my shift was taken away.
She proceeded to tell me that basically there was nothing to worry about, and that they’re changing the schedule up since they are training new hires. I understood that and I said OK no problem.
After continuing the conversation on the phone with her, she then stated that before they assigned me a new shift, herself and the owner needed to talk to me about how I left on my previous shift, and how if she wasn’t there, there would be no one at the front desk to complete the shift, and how she had been there since 9 AM that day… I was very confused. What job would allow you to throw up, then expect you to stay and complete another four hours of your shift. Then proceeded to not even care about the fact that you literally just got sick, act super nonchalant and rude about it, and now retaliate and take away your hours at a job because of that? That’s absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional.
I never was assigned another shift after that, and I was never even talked to or even given an opportunity to explain what happened to anyone else, but her.
Extremely unprofessional as I stated previously, and I would not recommend working here. Having compassion for your employees and not treating them like robots will probably allow for better attitudes and overall wellness of your staff. Do better, extremely disappointing and disrespectful. Treat others how you’d like...
Read moreOur time here could have been better. There was a large lack in time management, professionalism, taking eachother accountable, coordinating, and growth as a team with the Fairfield front desk associates and management.
First, just a minor inconvenience, but furniture was missing in the room.
Secondly, we were “accidentally” checked out mid week because a front desk associate FAILED, to confirm it was the actual guest leaving. All they had to do was text, call, or EVEN check identification. I know it’s a hard thing to do. I don’t know what people are going through. But it’s a very easy task to do. They blamed “a very tired hotel guest” that left at 520am. Blaming other people makes me wonder if you do that outside of work among other tasteless traits they have. Attacking peoples personas isn’t my favorite thing to do, but I will happily do so today. I’m grateful I was here at the time this happened.
Third, We had originally scheduled (more than a week in advance) a late check out for 4pm. We were given 4-6 hours prior to that time. We have a Marriott bonvoy status that included us leaving at 4pm, always. It was never acknowledged or upheld. My counterpart was at work the whole time this happened. Fortunately I was here with him this week, so I was able to move things out of the room. Well.. forced out of the room, the manager ran to the room and begged for me to check out early eventually even though I kept telling them to speak to the main hotel guest. “It’s a full house, weddings, electric festival, football games etc” There was no way in hell of all the hotel guests here, they would all show up by 3pm-4pm.
My counterpart and I have a 14 hour trek back home today then be back in Ohio by Monday. All he wanted to do was shower after a long day of work and is now unable to. They didn’t give me assistance on getting the luggage from the room, I understand it’s a liability. But sure at the expense of the Fairfield team, the least they did was move the luggage cart from the middle of the lobby to a wall. FANTASTIC JOB EVERYONE! YOU DID GREAT, SAME TIME TOMORROW? They had me wait in the lobby. My counterpart was at work at this time.
As two people who know how busy it can be, since we both left a company likely 5 times bigger than the Fairfield franchise, there is improvement to be made here. This location needs to do better. We will...
Read moreI don’t even know where to begin. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. It is certainly well deserved. One of the best stays we have had in a long time. Whenever we travel, it’s always been with a dog and our young daughter, and every hotel we’ve stayed at before would end up being deemed “the angry room” because of the lack of space. Now we’ve added our soon to be 3yr old son and this time I chose to go bigger and get a suite and it has been the best choice I have made. This has been by far our most pleasant trip ever, and after 26yr in the military and living out of hotels everywhere, I am extremely picky about cleanliness- and the second we walked in the room you could just tell the housekeeping staff takes their jobs seriously. I made a great choice when selecting our stay with Fairfield Inn & Suites Columbus New Albany. I chose to get the 2 Queen bed Suite. The suite is not only very spacious, but also the beds are very comfortable, and nobody is having to climb over each other to get around. There’s more than enough space for the dog, her kennel, the kids, our bags, and a designated work space for my husband to telework. His favorite space is the work space because he was able to hook his laptop up to the 2nd television on the room to provide him with the extra screen space, my favorite space was the whole room, but I really loved being able to have a couch to go sit on instead of just a bed, so the kids could sleep and my husband and I could still have space to just sit together and relax. After this trip, I know that we can never stay in a regular hotel room again. My daughter thought it was even really cool that televisions in the room knew who I was and I loved that personal touch. *Sorry, took pics and video at night with the...
