Edit (after staying here 4-5 more times over the last 6 months)
Some rooms are pretty good, some are dank with a bit of a smell. This current one I'm in (121) is not great. The bed is wonky, and I have seen (just one) roach both of the last times I stayed here.
Security would be beneficial. Rough, loud clientele.
I did a bug check, and it's all good.
Some minor cleanliness issues in the bathroom, but this is about what I expect for a budget hotel. I am pleasantly surprised. There also are some outdated and slightly broken furnishings, but it's MUCH BETTER and a bit more modernized than the last Red Roof Plus I stayed at.
There are also two stationary food trucks parked on the block!
Even though I booked through a third-party (Chase Travel), I was granted a first-floor room at my request, which I very much appreciated. Check-in was seemless.
HOUSEKEEPING: You need to request housekeeping at this location (A-okay with me, but some people may get annoyed.)
DOGS: There's a small dog park in the grassy area next to the back parking lot, behind Raising Cane's! It's a very weird location, easy to miss so you won't find many or even any dogs there to play with, but it is a HUGE bonus to have a fenced area for dogs right next to the hotel.
AFTER-STAY EDITS:
Room key randomly stopped working one day. This happened multiple times at the last Red Rood Plus I stayed at. Very annoying. I did not store it with credit cards (which does stop key card from working)
PRIVACY: They respected the privacy sign and left me alone.
CLEANLINESS: The room was a bit less clean than I would've liked with some caked dust in spots, in addition to the bathroom issues (poop in the bottom of the toilet, stained and dirty bathtub that I would not use for anything aside from a shower. Was hesitant to even use it to wash clothes.
COMFORT: Bed was fine. Not great, not terrible. A few pillows were no good and lumpy and should be replaced.
MINI FRIDGE: Good size but does not have a freezer portion like many of the larger mini fridges do. You'll need to adjust the temp as ice did accumulate on some of my food on even the bottom rack.
NOISE: If you're sensitive to noise, you'll want to be on the third/top floor as you can hear people above you walking around and such. Didn't really bother me.
HEAT: Wall-mounted electric space heaters with a thermostat on the wall. It took a while for the room to heat up. Once it did, it worked well. Keep it at a decent level. Heaters are a bit outdated and I had a hard time finding an even level without it either being too hot or too cold. The weather was up and down during my stay, though. They also made an annoying intermittent tapping, almost crackling sound. Nothing too crazy.
DOG-FRIENDLINESS: At the dog station in the middle of the building, they put those flimsy small trash liners from the rooms instead of actual poop bags. You can't properly pick up dog poop with these or you'll get it on your hands. They break. This will discourage the lazy people from cleaning up after their dogs. You can grab some extra liners for your trash at this dog station though, lol.
ACCESSIBILITY: They have an elevator at the center of this building by the center stairwell! They also have a stairwell on each end of the building for a total of three stairwells. Additionally, the room door opens easily. That was not the case at the last Red Roof Plus I stayed at.
LOCATION: Plenty of food nearby, including a delicious bakery. Surrounded by busy streets. Watch your small kids and dogs closely.
STAFF: Friendly and helpful. You should staff more than one person at the front desk for busier times. I never saw more than one at a time. They shouldn't have a line of 4-5 people waiting. This happened when my room key decided to stop working, and I had to wait for 4 people to be served ahead of me with my dinner getting cold and my dog and I both locked out of our room.
FINAL VERDICT: Management could turn many of these reviews to 5 stars with more thorough cleaning! Otherwise, I was much happier here than at my last...
Read moreThe Red Roof PLUS+ is situated next to the COTA line 1 bus stop. perfect if you want to go to Downtown, Artist District or if you want to get to Walmart etc. It is in the University District which I still have to check out.
In addition you have a gas station and some fastfood and a Denny's in walkable distance (max. 5 min)
Even being next to a main road it is somewhat quite and the outdoor noise is nicely cancelled in my opinion.
The AC works fine and the beds are gigantic.
But sadly this is it with all the upsides of this hotel.
First off, you really are gonna gamble in what state your room is. Mine was fineish. Had a broken hairdryer, which got exchanged to a working one. My bathtub and sink do not fully close. so i cant wash clothes or take a bath. I mentioned it and nothing has been done about it since 5 days. My bathroom door has stains and i asked twice for room cleaning (roomcleaning is on demand here) only the second time they came cleaning my room. The icemachines are sealed away behind closed doors. You can see the machine but it is not accesible. To be fair I did not check on the other machines. The elevators top button does barely work and all around the place looks like the manager does not care about it at all. Additionally, my room smells of cigarettes everytime I enter my room. Some guests have smoked in here in the past it seems.
I currently stayed here at this place since the 8. of june and plan to do so until the 27. because, sadly enough, it is the cheapest place i could have found... But even for around 70$ and with not everything around here working, I think it is still overpriced.
Furthermore, the current team consist of 3 newbies and the cleaning crew. The manager is in vacation and the other employees are also not on site to my knowledge. Communication between the team is non-existent or the cleaning team does not do its job to the fullest. (reason: room cleaning has only be done after asking a second time)
I advice against booking here if you can afford 20 bucks or 30 bucks more per night on a hotel.
The staff is friendly but this is it. I asked to extend my stay for an additional week, and asked if possible to pay in cash. First I was told yesyou can do that and two days afterwards I got told no. not possible. Miscommunication is sadly present in here and it does not make things easier.
Coming back to the fact that it looks all tattered down: The towels, bed sheets, curtains, everything fabric look damaged or have holes in it or have stains. (not all. only some of them) it does not get bleached clean or replaced with nonbroken articles.
I am sorry to leave behind a negative review but it sadly has to be done and I hope people will read this review to the...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars, I absolutely would!||The choice is simple, do NOT stay here! ||This hotel was the last option to stay near campus for a concert at the stadium. The rates in the area were hiked from the concert and other events, and when we called, this hotel had only a few rooms left. And nothing was available for at least 45 minutes. When we checked in, we were greeted by a domestic dispute in the parking lot. Having a mile walk to the stadium for the concert we quickly dropped our stuff off and left. When we returned well after midnight, we noticed blood stained sheets on the second bed and an extensive amount of mold on the ceiling in the bathroom. With no other hotels to go to, and knowing ours was the last room we shut the door to the bathroom, checked the other bed, and went to sleep knowing we would be checking out in a few hours. At checkout, I showed the pictures to the attendant who quickly told me that I should have came down late that evening and they could have checked me out. He told me he would send maintenance to the room to check on the issue. I requested to speak with the manager regarding the state of the room, and was told he would return Monday. Nothing was done, and I decided to speak with the manager on Monday. On Monday, I called, he was not in and the second attendant I spoke to claimed the same as the first. I could have been checked out if I came in the early morning hours and told them about the issue. He also stated he checked the room and saw no mold. I emailed him the pictures, and he quickly backed down on his comments about the mold. Another day of not speaking to the manager.||Today, I received an email from the manager. The room cost over $300 for the night (way too much for that area and hotel, but when the Laquinta is going for $500 a night and has no rooms this is the best you can get), and with the mold and stained sheets he offered us a $50 refund. No returned phone call as I had asked for. For the cost of the room, mold should have not been an issue, and blood on the sheets should have not been there as well. We will never stay here again. The pictures on here do not match what the rooms look like. Poor service, and a disgusting hotel. Do...
