Travelled to Ohio for a wedding and stayed at the Residence Inn OSU for 2 nights at an approximate total of $440. Considering what I reserved the room did not bare any resemblance.
First, as a Marriott/Bonvoy member for more than 3.5 decades I was not recognized at check-in or thanked at check-out. I also noticed (today prior to checkout) while we say in the breakfast, the staff member at the front desk sat on a stool paying 100% attention to her phone and barely any attention to the people passing her by in the lobby.
When we checked out she all she asked if I wanted a printed receipt or email. No how was your stay! Also there's no security person or cameras in the parking lot or lobby, and only one person at the front desk. How is one person supposed to look after a full hotel of this size? That's a very serious safety concern for staff and guests.
In general, the staff were ok. The lady who checked us in was the nicest of all the staff.
The worst part of our stay was the room. First issue, we were placed in a room that was meant for someone with a disability/wheelchair. We were unable to hang our clothes in the closet because the rack was waist high (clearly for someone in a wheelchair and not an able bodied person). The carpet in the entire room was so dirty that we did not want to walk barefooted. The room carpet appeared as though it had never been cleaned since it was installed.
The best thing about the bathroom was the shower head and the water was very hot. I didn't want to get out of the shower. Still we did not have a regular bathroom. There was nowhere for towel storage. Towels were placed on a shower seat within the shower itself. The shower was designed for a person with a disability or in a wheelchair. There was only one hook for a single towel with hand rails next to the toilet. Clearly the bathroom was not made for an able body. It was made for someone in a wheelchair. I felt so bad like I had deprived a person with special needs their room. I felt like I had parked in a handicap parking spot and should not have. I felt so bad that I even went to the front desk to ask why we were put in a room like that. We were told the one bedroom suites and bathrooms are all made that why, to also accommodate people in wheelchairs! Wait?!?! What?!??! Every one bedroom suit? That can't be right?! At least the bed was comfortable and the linen was clean.
In addition to the very dirty carpet the kitchen area floor was absolutely disgustingly dirty. The cabinets were in really bad shape and not very clean, and the fridge doors were also disgusting. I dropped something on the kitchen vinyl floor and when I wiped it up with damp cloth, the cloth was black. I figured something was off with the kitchen floor because when we walked in to the room for the first time the floor was sticky and our shoes made squelching sounds. Additionally, we found out the dishwasher did not even work and I found a months old dishwashing cube in it that had turned half brown. The room was heavy perfumed to mask the smell/odor of the room I guess.
There were a lot of BUGS (ladybugs I believe) in our room at night. I think they get in through the AC vent because during the daylight we noticed a lot of them and other insects on our windows.
Finally, at 9:30am this morning, a cleaning staff knocked on our door (even with the do not disturb sign on the door) as we were getting ready to leave. She was a very nice lady, but why doesn't the front desk provide the cleaning crew a list of people checking out so they don't knock on the door to ask if you're leaving?
I really feel past and future customers who were/are placed into the room we were placed in (Room 316) got/get ripped off. THIS IS ESPECIALLY BAD CONSIDERING THE ROOM IS MEANT FOR A DISABLED PERSON. SHAME ON THE HOTEL FOR RIPPING DISABLED PEOPLE (and able bodied people) OFF with such a room! The room needs a major cleaning, carpets replaced, and bugs are getting in via the ac unit. Better yet, the room needs a major overhaul. Shame on you...
Read moreI have to say, sometimes when you pick hotels it's a hit or a miss. You can do as much research, read many reviews but sometimes you don't get the full picture until you actually have the experience. On a business trip last year, I was passing through Columbus and looking for a great place to stay. My first thoughts were to go downtown where all the action is. I also noticed that night it was calling for rain. I'm not the type to sit in a $300-400.00 dollar a night hotel, just to hang out. I looked at some other areas of the city, and while browsing my Marriot (Now BonVoy) app, I found this hotel at an exceptional price. Booking it was a no braining as it's not too far from downtown, it's near a college so you know you'll find cool things to do, and it had miles and miles of trails along the river.
This hotel upon pulling up to the driveway looked very very new. Be aware when you walk in the magnificent front lobby as this property is home to not one but two Marriot hotels. One side is the Marriot, and one side is the Marriot Residence Inn. The Lobby itself was very grandiose, well lit, and very modern. the staff at the front desk welcomed me as a Marriot Rewards Member and checked me into a great room very easily and quickly.
My room was a very pleasant surprise as it looked great in the pictures that I reviewed but the room was much larger than I thought it would. Everything in the room screamed elegance, as the room had very good lighting, modern and new looking furniture and fixtures. My only regret is that I was only here one night. They really created a great space when they designed this hotel. For the business traveller, you will have enough plugins and USB outlets for your phones, Tablets, computers, and anything else. The room had a very large TV with lots of channels, the couch was so comfortable that I took a little nap on it by accident. The bathroom was big, bright and clean. Plenty of towels were at my disposal and the bed, was very very comfortable, and I had a very deep sound sleep. This is a Marriot Residence, so it is made for a longer stay, it had a kitchen, a great space for working, enough room on the floor for yoga, or ROMWOD, or just for walking around like I do when I'm on the phone.
Now to the rest of the property!! The hotel has a breakfast area and a restaurant on site. It has a very nice pool on a very good gym with many pieces of equipment. Many can work out at the same time. If you are looking for a place to stay for a few nights, and you're a business traveller or on vacation, you will simply...
Read moreWOW!! This was the BEST experience we have ever had at a Residence Inn!!! The staff is excellent, the rooms are new & clean with plenty of places to charge your portable electronics, plenty of lighting, comfy beds & delicious food! After we got into our room, we noticed a bad smell coming out of the fridge/freezer. Kelly immediately came up to wipe down the inside of the fridge. She was very friendly & did not mind at all. We later realized the smell was due to the fridge cooling being turned “off”. Once we turned it back to “cool”, the smell went away. That was the only issue we encountered, but we were pleased with how quickly the staff responded.
As far as the room, it was spacious and had a large flat screen tv with Netflix access for those guests who have a Netflix account. The bed and bath linens were nice and the shower was a walk-in shower, which I love! There was a safe on the bottom of the closet, so you have to kind of get down on your knees to access it, but we were okay with that. There were 2 good size night stands, each with a drawer, and 2 other drawers for clothes. There was a nice mirror/counter space on top of the 2 drawers, but wish there had been an outlet there. It would have been an ideal place for me to blow dry my hair while my husband was showering or using the bathroom. Not a big deal...just a recommendation.
The Manager’s evening reception Monday through Wednesday from 6pm to 7:30 PM was sufficient for us on Wednesday night for dinner. It offered meatballs, a warm cheese dip, hummus and pita bread, with delicious brownies for dessert. It also offered beer, wine, soda and water. Ricky did an outstanding job of overseeing the breakfast each morning. It was clean & fully stocked.
We used the shuttle service every day and Greg was awesome! He really went the extra mile for us...getting us our hotel parking pass (for gameday weekend) because we did not get it at check-in on Wednesday and he also lent us an umbrella to use on gameday since rain was expected. Thank you Greg!! Kalyn, at the front desk, helped us tremendously, as far as learning the layout of the OSU campus.
One of the things we love about this fairly new Residence Inn is that it is connected to a Marriott that has an excellent bar/restaurant, which we ate at several times. You can even order room service! Highly recommend...
