In October of 2018, my husband and I were married at the Southern Hotel. We were not local to the area and had just relocated so we did not know what venues to consider. Based on the recommendation of someone at our gym/spa, we went to a bridal showcase at the Southern Hotel. We looked into a few other venues and decided we wanted an intimate wedding with only immediate family and a few local friends since most of our friends and family were out of state. After the bridal showcase we met with the event coordinator, Danielle. From day one she was very organized, succinct, and my wedding’s guardian angel.
Danielle took care of coordinating with me, all the vendors, and the hotel staff. She made some wonderful recommendations that, in the end, saved me a lot of time, energy and money. Please do not misunderstand me. The Southern Hotel is a higher end venue, and it is by no means one of the cheaper venues in the area, but you really do get what you pay for here and it is well worth the cost which, in my opinion, was very reasonable. The food was amazing. Oxlot 9 has an amazing chef and they also do a wonderful brunch. Thanks to Danielle, I also went to the brunch there and found the band, Bad Penny, who played at our reception.
The setting of the hotel was perfect, and the decorated courtyard is the perfect setting for a reception. We even did a cocktail reception the night before in the sunroom for friends and family coming from out of town, coordinated by Danielle and myself, and it was perfect. I also like the fact that they had a contingency plan for weather. We had the ceremony in the courtyard, dinner in the sunroom off the ballroom, and then the reception and cake in the courtyard. Danielle did have the ballroom set aside as a backup just in case it rained. I could not recommend a better spot for an event and the ease of planning made it the best...
Read more**edit: I would like to clarify that this incident happened on the second day of my 3 day stay and not on the day I was supposed to check out.
I've held onto this review for a long time because I don't enjoy giving local businesses a bad review. After spending a lot of time thinking about my experience, I do think it is warranted. If you book this hotel, just know that your stuff may be packed up and moved out at a moments notice without your permission.
I stayed here in the past when I was interviewing for a job and the company I was interviewing with had booked the room for 3 or so days. I was at my interview when they called me to let me know I was supposed to check out but I hadn't so they packed up my belongings and moved me out of the room. I asked them why they did this and was told they needed space to "accommodate a wedding party." It turns out they had made a mistake and thought I was supposed to check out when I wasn't. I came back to the hotel to a gift basket and a completely unapologetic staff who clearly had no clue what an invasion of privacy feels like when she offered to catalogue my belongings with her standing there to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I obviously declined. After having a stranger go through and touch your belongings, who on earth would want to then sit there cataloguing all your stuff? It turns out I was missing my electric toothbrush which they declined to pay for and instead implied that I was lying about it being missing.
I live in this community now and would never recommend this hotel to anyone. The only saving grace was the comped meal at the Gloriette which was only offered after I told them what they did was an invasion of privacy. The staff at the Gloriette were incredibly nice and the food...
Read moreLet me first say that Theresa (sp?), the receptionist, was an absolutely pleasant addition to this hotel. My husband and I had a bad AirBnB experience in Gulfport and didn't want to stay at our already paid for house. So we took a chance and headed on further not knowing where we'd find a hotel last minute that we could feel comfortable at and be available to accommodate us. We stopped at the local Texas Roadhouse off I-10 to eat and happened to check Google Maps for any area hotels. Thanks to the other reviews, we were sold on it.
After we arrived, Theresa was immediately welcoming, helpful, and pleasant. The room was so cozy and the bathroom was larger than expected. We just felt so relieved to not have to do the straight drive home to Houston after our horrible experience in Gulfport. But the best part of encountering Theresa was the request for coffee. I had called down close to 10:00 after arriving around 9:00 for coffee for my husband. I asked about how late room service worked (which she didn't say but later figured out why). I immediately said we only needed a cup of coffee not food of any kind. She said we can have it to you in about 10 minutes. But instead of room service bringing it, SHE brought it to us. AND she brought an entire container of coffee you usually see at breakfast areas along with a round tray of creamer, two cups and plates, and sugar packets. It was just lovely! I insisted on paying a tip in the morning since unfortunately we didn't have cash on us, but she said absolutely not needed at all.
I'm writing this review now before the night is over only because it already has been a welcoming, accommodating, and helpful stay.
Thank you to everyone that helped us have a good stay as well! Five...
