Monday February 24th Just ate breakfast at Matina Bella’s , a restaurant that we have eaten at for years and enjoyed very much(UNTIL TODAY). The fried eggs were served partially raw( raw egg visibly on the cooked portion of the eggs, And the steak was tough. Ok maybe the cook was having a bad day, which everyone has occasionally , fine. However, no one asked us if we enjoyed our food or how it was while we were there. I paid the bill, tried to speak with a manager about the food, but he disappeared into the back. Here comes the icing on the cake. I called there after I left, and asked to speak to the manager, the girl said hold on, and a male voice came on the line. I politely asked, is this the manager, he said what is this about?, and I said it’s about may I speak to the manager please. Again he asked what is this about, again I said are you the manager?, and he(he never acknowledged whether he was the manager or not)said “Look if your not going to tell me what this is about, then I can’t help you.” At which point I became angry and said it’s about your food was sh—y, and he hung up on me. I’m sorry but managers are supposed to speak to customers in a professional manner, which he did not, and I still don’t know if he was the manager or not. I was trying to discuss politely an issue with their food, and I was met with complete rudeness and non professional attitude. I really would like the owner to call me and discuss this with me because obviously their quality of service and quality of food has Declined, and the quality of their staff has declined also. Very disappointed in failure of a manager to speak civil to their customer. Wasted good money to have a nice breakfast And if this matter is not resolved I will consider going to Abita roasting company next time, and would suggest that you consider another option Instead of subjecting yourself and family to such a rude person. The waitress however was very attentive and she received a nice tip. For a well known and trusted covington icon WHAT A HORRIBLE...
Read moreI’ve been hearing about this eatery for years from family. Today I happened to be in the area and was taken to Mattina Bella, translation, beautiful morning. The restaurant seats around 85 people in a cozy but spacious and comfortable setting. It’s a classy environment. We were greeted immediately and pleasantly and seated quickly. However I can imagine an opportunity for a conversation during a wait on the weekend.
The charming waitress got our drink order but was watchful and could read when we were ready to order. She was able to answer any questions we had and her descriptions were articulate and accurate.
The wait time gave us sufficient time to have a leisurely chat and not feel rushed.
The Blue Crab Eggs Benedict was absolutely the best I’ve ever had. I’ve worked in seventeen countries and never had a hollandaise sauce as light and heavenly creamy as this. The chunks of jumbo lump crab were very fresh and were well paired with the mushrooms and the eggs were perfectly prepared.
They have a kids menu, allow service dogs, don’t allow smoking, and don’t take reservations.
The staff was a clear compliment to the food. This was more than a meal, it was a delightful experience. I will return every opportunity I get but fear those opportunities will never be enough!
Thanks to my son for...
Read more⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hidden Gem Worth the Drive I hesitate to even write this because I’d love to keep Martina Bella a secret just for my girlfriend and me—but people deserve to know how special this place really is.
We visit about twice a month when she’s off on Saturdays. It's a peaceful 20–30 minute drive from Hammond to Covington, and we actually enjoy the ride. The wait to be seated is usually short, even when it’s busy.
The service is always friendly and professional—clearly a team that cares. The coffee is always fresh and hot, just the way it should be. The owner often greets guests at the door herself, making sure everything flows smoothly. Her staff resets the tables immediately so no one waits too long.
The food? Absolutely fantastic. I’m a big Eggs Benedict fan and have tried just about every version they offer. My new favorite is the Eggs Benedict Louisiane—shrimp, peppers, onions over two grit cakes. Incredible. My girlfriend usually gets the Western omelet, and it’s always made fresh and comes out hot.
Prices are reasonable, portions are generous, and everything tastes like it was made with care. I would name the servers, but honestly—they’re all excellent. Martina Bella has become a regular stop for us, and we look forward to...
