Located in historic downtown Covington, Del Porto is very good.
This was an attractive, hip restaurant. We were seated immediately by a very friendly host and that quality service extended through our meal. Everyone who we encountered were professional and provided great service.
We started with beef carpaccio. Never having eaten raw beef, I was skeptical. It was amazingly thin slices of raw beef with lettuce, sauce and crustini bread. Together it was a unique, but very tasty bite.
Our next course was salad. Each of our salads had amazingly fresh greens and homemade dressing. They were also very good.
For entrees we had the fish special and the steak. The steak was my entree and it was one of the best steaks I have had. The "painted hills" New York strip was cooked perfectly with crispy potatoes and was truly amazing.
This is one of the best restaurants on the Northshore. I highly recommend it.
One interesting thing I noticed is the bar scene. The bar was crowded with women who were just having drinks. This would probably be a great place to get a drink if you're...

They made us some killer little marinara sauce this was the highlight of the lunch. Husbands meatball Panini ok. Came with a small Ceasar type side? No croutons and unimpressed. Then the pastas. First a pasta that allegedly came with “Italian Sausage” that turned out to be sort of like Pepperoni and Potatoes. Just yuck and the actual pasta was chewy and rubbery. Asked for the Tagliatelle and somehow was thinking of Pappardelle. Turned out incidental since there was the thinnest, stringy pasta with lackluster Bolognaise on it. Covington struggles with good restaurants. This was an expensive, celebratory luncheon that was hugely disappointing . Spoke with the very polite manager who had great explanations but no real accommodation. This is our second and last C- trip to this place. I so wanted to like this because it is a very nice dining room and traditional...
Read moreCame over from NOLA with some friends and had a spectacular experience with COVID-era dining. I can personally speak to the healthy portion of prosciutto antipasti- I couldn't decide between the short rib Tagliatelle and the duck breast...so I got them both and couldn't have been happier! Del Porto's atmosphere was elegant and socially-distanced, with hand sanitizer available & customers wearing masks until seated. The staff took great care to not only offer warm hospitality, but to see that everyone was comfortable with and adhered to the new health and safety regulations (not always a popular task, but one required by restaurants these days). Keeping everyone relaxed and happy and satisfied under those challenging circumstances is not an easy assignment, but Del Porto's came through. NOTE: I also went out the next morning and clocked the fastest 1-mile run I've recorded in 20 years, so I think Del Porto's qualifies as "health food" until proven otherwise, haha! I can't wait to...
